  1. We had a chili cook off at church this afternoon. I didn’t cook anything, just bought tickets and showed up to eat some chili. The chili that won was some pretty standard ground beef and beans style, nothing too adventurous. There was a chicken chili that I REALLY liked. It turned out my friends wife had made it and she let us take all the leftovers home. We also got a ziploc full of the winning ground beef chili. looks like I won’t be cooking for a day or two. After we got home I made some progress on a project for the church. we are building a new altar rail using some vintage pieces, turned balusters and a cherry rail, etc. We don’t have enough of the cherry rail to complete the whole thing so I had volunteered to cut new molding and a cap out of cherry to match. The tricky part is done now and I just have some hand work and the mitered corners to cut once I get the final measurements from the other parts. Oh, and lots of sanding and finishing.

  2. Trying to describe how a speaker sounds in words has been a challenge for audio reviewers since Day One. I don't claim to solve that, but after extended listening sessions to a friend's set of Khorns with many discs, I've come up with an analogy. Speaker rhetoric often borrows from photography-"transparency, clarity, imaging" etc. The analogy that came to me is "resolution". I have a Canon 9600 Mk II scanner that has a resolution of 9600 dpi optical. When I first bought it, I experimented with scanning 35 mm film and slides at higher and higher res. I found that 4800 dpi was the highest I could scan a well-preserved 35 mm negative or slide , and anything above that started resolving the grain of the film. My cross-walk to Klipschorn performance is that they can let me hear into the grain of the music in a way no other speaker can. On a well-recorded organ disc, I can hear the organ "breathing" which may or may not a be a good thing, but again, a unique opportunity. Of course, the organ is the most powerful single instrument, and only a powerful audio system can begin to do it justice. This ties in with PWK's assertion that speakers with low FM distortion allow the "inner voices" of the music to be heard. I tell non-Klipsch (or those not having had the privilege of the Khorn experience yet) friends that until they hear Khorns, they can't fully appreciate the inevitable gap between music live and recorded music. I had the pleasure of hearing the same organ in person at the Naval Academy chapel and on disc via Klipschorns. Reproduced, It can't be the same experience but it's still the best available.

  3. From the wiki article cited: Moreover, many audiophiles are willfully ignorant of the fallibility of human hearing. They will claim to "just use your ears" as a rationalization for their pursuit. Ears detect, but the brain hears, and the brain can easily be fooled into confirming any level of bias. Many of these so called audiophiles are equally ignorant of how to properly control for this fallibility, and will even dismiss it outright; many will claim that properly controlling with a blind test will "stress out" the listener thus harm any data gathered, without any evidence to support such a notion. Perhaps deep down the audiophile knows that they are full of it, and the idea that they could be made a fool of is indeed quite stressful. In fact real audio scientists will have to follow several critical modeling steps to design experiments which ensure a scientific level of accuracy and reliability. However, to the audiophile this is all flippantly dismissed, many times in spite of the evidence. Even the audiophile press will perform uncontrolled listening tests which involve simply turning it on, and having a pleasant experience, leading the reader to assume they can do the same thing, and they can, but their results will be just as flawed.

  9. I've not listened to this guy in a long time. the DJ brought it up at the vinyl thread, and that was a nice play earlier. Now Halloween is coming but it's not shrub to shrub kids, busted jack-o-lanterns and noisy teens until 3am anymore. Might still be candy wrappers for weeks though. Spooky-spicy-funky

  10. A new smaller house is in the works, so it is with great regret I offer these Walnut La Scala IIs. They are “B” stock due to the mismatched veneer, but who cares when you view the entire speaker (and I seldom look at the sides of them)? I am somewhat OCD about audio equipment and the prior owner was just as “careful;" they are flawless. I keep a sheet over them when not in use (the gray sheets are included). These loudspeakers have no issues. They are as sonically & visually stunning as you would expect. I suspect there will be no WAF issues when they are viewed. The photographs really don't convey the total impact of the reddish tones and dark veining. They nearly match my 70th anniversary Heresys in color & veining. They are stunning in person (hyperbole until you sell them yourself). While I have the boxes, I will not ship them. That requires pallets & strapping. I sold my F-150 (no one needs a diesel right now) so delivery is not an option. I’m south of Nashville and north of DaveA, so make a country music weekend out of it. You are welcome to audition them (sorry, no SS; tubes rule) or just pick them up on the fly; your call. So to recap: -La Scala IIs -Walnut -Original Boxes Any questions? Please message me. Thanks!

  13. another predictable reaction. 😁See now I planed ahead knowing all this esoteric electronics voodoo ahead of time. While I do have wire mesh it is way down in that 8" thick 5000psi slab that mainly depends on the fiber mesh for crack resistance. My cleverly constructed steel building was designed to be an audio enhancing Faraday cage to reduce all harmful electronic interference. It's why my speakers sound so good with so few components.

  15. Lit my "campfire" this AM. Isn't cold out.... one of those days where it doesn't improve after sunrise. I'll have coals to work with tonight. Being lazy ... coals are much easier to build a fire with. At a friend's request, I am going to visit his wife today. No... nothing exciting. She is unsteady on her feet and he has a Dr appt. She's staying home. Boy is moving... sorta... and not immediately. Got a caretaking offer. 3BR, 2 bath house on 160 acres --- off the grid ... or was, last I knew.. A lot of responsibility ... and his first place of his own. I expect many "How do you fix a..." calls. I haven't talked to him about what all he has to take care of. It may not be what I think. When I say "sorta moving"... this place is furnished. We'll see how much stuff goes. I bet the Sportster stays here.

  17. When I built my previous Jub-Likes and my current FH-1 / K402s, I decided to wire everything with Supra PLY3.4 Speaker Wire. Supra talks about various reason why their cable sounds better, but the main reason why I spent a bit extra on this wire is the fact that all the strands are tin plated and have a quality PVC jacket. Oxidation should not be a concern, even long after I am gone.

  27. Listening is divided into 3 categories 1. Physics is the objective acoustics, it is physically based on measurement . 2. Human ears are the psychoacoustics. They filter the metrics , such as volume , sound structures , etc . 3. The human brain is the subjective acoustics, it awakens the emotional component as well as evaluation of the music. Those who don´t understand this should deal themselves with other hobbies.

  28. Saw these on FB, they sat for a few days so I offered a grand. Seller said ok and that he was leaving for a trip in 3 hours and would be back in a week. It would have been tough to get over to him in time but in hindsight I should have just done it that day. Msg'd the seller on the day he got back. Saw the speakers were now marked as SOLD. He said the person who bought his Heresy pair is buying these for the $1200. While I kinda figured we had a deal, I guess I understand. Oh well. At least he was honest about it.

  30. I was just about to post to see if anyone was traveling from your area down to Tampa or FL even. Those will def not fit in a Wrangler so I'm thinking there'd have to be some sort of rental car involved, too. I'll give it some thought for sure!

  31. Come on up; it's not that far. A little over 10 hours on interstates each way. In the 80s, I lived in Boca Raton and would drive home to KC to see my parents on a long weeked. It was a day trip then... 😳

  32. Yes! We sent our photos of our trade, sellers are happy with it , and now we've sent our questions about the one for sale...I keep telling my DH that he needs to remember that we will be picking up these, (if not already sold) so he needs to leave enough room for them in the covered truck bed. 36" x 24" x 24"?

  33. Now there is a mouthful of marketing babble speak! So picture yourself in the listening room in Hope where you will see zip cord on the floor. Good enough for Roy means good enough for me. Buy 12g by the spool and be happy don't worry. From Audiogon, and I mean way gone, today. I just love humor in the morning! "Had my interconnect cables custom made to be 10’3.47” long…mathematically this is the perfect length as all the distortion has plenty of room to disperse." Well that is true for one specific wire manufactured in a particular way. The math changes when you vary construction and gauge and strand thickness. Cable cooking and freezing can change the math when it alters the metallurgical structure.of the conductor. You can reverse the cable and the math will change. Wire has a best way for proper electron flow. Avoid laying speaker cables on a bare floor as wood will change the flow of electrons and render your mathematically precise calculated wire to then be incorrect. Ceramic tile will not unless you have tile with heavy iron content. Also avoid finer wool carpets as they are prone to static electricity buildup which can effect your outcome too.

  35. If you want to hear an improvement swap the tube for a plug-in solid-state rectifier. Rail sag is, for all intents and purposes, eliminated. It's harder on the tubes but that's why we have in-rush current limiters.

  39. Here is the hard truth. If you have diabetes sugar is a serious issue. Just get rid of sugar, artificial sweeteners and refined carbs. You can do it and once you 'make it to the top of the hill' the other side is an easy downhill ride. We never evolved to eat it and it is dangerous to you. For sodas, we occasionally drink soda water with a lemon or lime. Taste great and good if you have an upset stomach. I recently started drinking my coffee with a little butter and virgin coconut oil. No sugar. You can add heavy cream if you like. Google Bulletproof coffee. Basically drink water, tea coffee and occasionally beer wine etc. Try to cook fresh food as processed foods (anything in a box that says in big shiny letters that it is healthy) need to be avoided. These things make a huge difference in the way that you feel every day. I wish you well with your handling your disease. This is not a criticism.

  45. It’s really disheartening that some people just do not take this into consideration. In my opinion, everything that can be done is being done. He’s doing everything he possibly can. It’s a fact that the nation’s medical stockpile was depleted and never replenished by the prior administration. So, the current administration started in the negative from the beginning. I would love to hear some constructive criticism on what else the administration could have done. I’m personally tired of all the negativity and twisting of everything that’s put forth. I swear I thought people were smarter than to just blindly follow the media. That’s the really scary part. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
