yes i have some amps ... collected during a few years (over 40 years). I also have Proton AA2120, Hiraga 8W class A Monster (DIY), Yves Cochet AL2 (EL34 PP - a french tube (or valve i do not know how you call it) amp maker). I tried Topping D Class amp, a little Musical Fidelity, a SAE 2200 power amp, a very old NAD 1020 preamp and some more. Over 40 years of trying to find the good sound .. In speakers, i had Onken with Iwata horn - jbl 2440 drivers, jbl 2405 tweeters, Fostex FT90h, T925, FT65, .. B&C drivers, Atlas sound pd-5vh when i tried to make La Scala clones, ect ect .. now i am trying to have a simple and good working hifi system .. with Cornwall IV speakers, McIntosh amp, an old Sony CDP-X7ESD cd, a little Logitech squeezebox Touch streamer, a Topping dx7s dac that i will not more use when i will receive my McIntosh MA7200 amp.

Awesome Pics @MicroMara I sure hope I can get MA 530 MP Needle that clean. It is going to be a chore though. I do feel for you in the setup, VTA, AS, Azi, Zenith, but all worth it for sure. I got Christmas today, the bearings have arrived I now have to remove tone arm from the table so as to properly get the install done. So lots of work ahead. Running R2R in the background today.

Mac sound. It's very polarizing. You either love it or hate it, not much middle ground. Hopefully the OP will be in the "Love" camp. As for high powered SS amps, I have heard a few good 'uns. But it is my opinion that with horns, low(ish) tube power is where it's at. And it's also my opinion that most people who think their high powered SS amp sounds just dandy on a pair of Cornwalls would like their speakers even more with a high quality tube amp. As always, YMMV....

i just got a pair of Cornwall speakers that have been sitting in a barn shed for some years. so after first dusting and some inspections (and a little shock about the size they are sitting in my living room) i've connected them to my amp, replacing a pair of quartets. info from the tags sn: 21T096 / 21T097 i found they are from 1979 one has initials OD, the other ASL They have been playing for a couple of days now, and i'm thinking about restoring them. The state is sort of oke, there are some chips in the woodworks and the cloth has some rips. before i begin, i have some questions about restoring them 1. i'm not sure if i want to repaint the speakers or put veneer on them. Is the colour bound to the serial number? ( for now i would like to keep them as stock as possible, only repair what is needed ) 2. as seen in one of the photos, it looks like the sides have a veneer (there is a layer peeling off), but from the top it looks like they are painted? 3. in case of a repaint, what paint is advised ? 4. does the front panel have another paint or brush or is it the same as the side panels ? 5. what can be used for filling the chips on the corners and edges ? 6. should the caps be replaced? i've read about the JEM Performance Audio caps. is there a European dealer of JEM ? 7. one of the plastic tweeter housings has a hole, it look like the connector was replace to the left bottom. does the hole affect the sound ? 8. are there other points i should think about when restoring them ? thanks for any help

Thanks for all your input. Yes, the stands/risers are about 3” in front and an inch on the back. Just designed to aim the sound upward, rather than across the floor, I’d guess. I took a couple pics of the top right on both cabinets. I’m not seeing any blemishes, but not sure exactly what you are seeing in the first pics. Edges are sharp looking to me. I’ll keep looking to see if I saved the original crossovers. Very surprising, but I do understand the value in “original”, so thanks for the advice.

I am repairing an Acurus 200five that someone took an output board out of and I would like to source a new board. Any hints or suggestions of where I might be able to find one? Thanks!

@sundown_cowboy re-install the original crossovers , sell the speakers 100% original ..1000$ , - the Crites aftermarket crossovers / Titanium diaphragms can be sold separately on CL or Ebay , no point installing titanium diaphragms in the tweeters if the midrange diaphragm is not Titanium

@Deang, a little late to the party, work is really starting to get in the way of this forum, but I snapped a picture of the terminal cup/plate. Ya, who knows what someone else did to those La Scalas before I got them? They had an $8 Rat Shack piezo tweeter in one tophat and one K-43 ohmed out at 20 ohms. For eight years now I have been trying to figure out what is wrong with my perception because a pair of pristine AA crossovers, even after recapping with pseudo-authorized (mylar) capacitors, has never sounded like “all that and a bag of chips” in any of the FIVE pairs of La Scalas I’ve owned over the years. Each pair had K-55-Ms… I never found the midrange to be too loud, I always found the treble not as bright as I would have liked, but that is not uncommon for me. Before recapping I had to put my ear up to the K-77s to ensure they were working. Now though, even with colorful puppets to explain what I was hearing, thanks @mboxler, I’m left with questions. Hypothetically, not suggesting anyone modify any Klipsch product, how would a person correct for the overlap using an AA crossover with a dual phase plug driver? I seem to remember a suggestion to add a .35 mH coil to the positive squawker output, a la A/4500. Would another possibility be to add the same elliptical filter used in the AL series of crossovers and change the .245 mH to .125 mH? I really want to hear what the fuss is all about with the AA crossover. For starters, I imagine the un-smudged crossover would result in better imaging. So is what I’ve been hearing more like an “A” with better tweeter protection? Another question now springs to mind… how did the widely accepted crossover points become 400 and 6000 Hz if the graph clearly shows 4500? …my whole life has been a lie, lol

I don't know this type of Mcintosh amp personally, but I'm sure you didn't do anything wrong. Worst case scenario, you have a major brand amp that sells well over and over again. But more importantly, I think it will sound very good with your Cornwalls. I recently bought an old quad 606, just a little less power than your Mcintosh MA7200, but also a very powerful amp. It runs fantastic with my 1977 Lascala and also with the underground Junilee. With your Cornwall as a big bass reflex box, the control ability of the MA7200 also should have a positive effect. You can't say that a small tube amp is always better or that a powerful transistor is always better. It is the synergy of all components in every single case plus the room and your personal taste. Your MA7200 has to my knowledge even output transformers. Be confident and look forward to the amp. And take your time to get used to it. I am very curious about your impressions. You have done nothing wrong with this amp I believe. Enjoy it.

I guess if he feels the need for 200 wpc for "transients", he is willing to forgo sound quality for sheer power. Nothing wrong with that as long as you know the deal.

72 in Duckburg @ 1PM? This could be the last week since we're headed down into the 40-60 range next week. First thing on the hit list outside is to replace the flag pole rope and flag. I know the flag won't make it til spring and the rope is looking nasty so I'm on it. Always have a spare flag and rope on hand so that's laying out there waiting on me. Funny here in the hood looking at the number of "other" flags flying. A Cleveland Browns flag, Ohio State flag and even have one flying w/fall flowers on it. I must be missing something. Cabbaged mine from a neighbot who was selling 15 years ago. Her new hubby was digging this one-piece monster out w/the concrete on the base. No problem. chain and my Cub Cadet dragged it right around front, dug a bigger hole and planted it in new concrete. Hasn't grown much but it sure eats up the flags @ 20 feet high. Might even toss some jalepeno/cheese brats on the grill since @JohnJ leftt me some in the freezer. It was now another 1.5 years well packed in my store ...Yesterday was baptism ...Peter Pritchard's MI ADC 10E MKIV is on the modded SME 3009 in operation. Had purchased it from a collector , technically impeccable condition , the needle has assured max 20 operating hours , moreover I had purchased the ADC with an original replacement needle Astatic USA. This is still well packed in the store. Among other things I still own an ADC XML MK III with JICO needle , a NoS XLM MK IV ( very very rare ) and a Sonus Gold Blue Just imagine , the good man had bought it on 04.09.1972 , it actually sometime in the last 50 years just for fun a little play , forget and that's it. Actually incredible ... these collectors ...collect & collect & collect ..but do not hear or have collected so much that they lose track. Now I'm the lucky one who can hear it . Initially it distorted in the Mids spectrum , ran unsteadily in the scan , pale timbres , little fundamental ...from bass spectrum no speech. After a few corrections of the VTA, the Trackingforce ( 0.5 > 1.25 / 0.7 recommended ) with me currently 1.0 Antiskating, Azymuth and a whole night in the idle groove of the Clearaudio Break In Vinyls sounds today already quite different This crazy spatiality ..solved airiness of the action in the room..a stage structure at its best. Slightly dark timbre without losing resolution in brilliance & Hights, strong Mids&Groundtone down to the bass staging with attack , bounce & dynamics with an almost heavenly musical flow. I'm impressed and amused , that's they way it should be A low-flyer in the true sense of the word

Anyone here who owns speakers with an efficiency of more than 98 db (that's most of you) is fooling themselves with 200 wpc SS amps. Not only do they not need that much power, they are missing out on better sounding amps by choosing that path.

I had several amps in over 20 years: ss, tubes, hybrids, etc... One of the best amp I've tried with my CW is Copland CTA402, a push-pull with 4 EL34s: amazing!!! Very detailed sound and controlled bass, excellent soundstage and realistic voices: I love it! 😍

Thank you so much for everyone's help with purchasing Klipschorn speakers. I drove 9 1/2 hours each way to Florida to pick up the speakers. It was a very exciting road trip, and the speakers are beautiful. They sound even better than I had expected, especially after I sealed them in their corners. There don't appear to be the normal signed stickers, but I see what appear to be the serial numbers, stamped in the wood. If I am reading them right, and using the codes from this site correctly, this (the x) suggests that they were built in 1982. But I'm a bit confused because I would have expected the serial numbers to be 7 digits, rather than 6 digits. And I don't see the codes for the wood finish, which would normally appear on the stickers. What do you think? Is the absence of the signed stickers a problem or deal breaker? Other thoughts? Other than these issues, the speakers look like just what I was hoping for: nice B style with the tweed fabric. Thanks so much for your help! George

I am not inclined toward ermine or mink covered Khorns, regardless of how elegant they might appear. Such speakers might also growl at each other. But fir wood would be fine.
