  1. Twice I tried to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway (1986 and 1992), with a buddy who had ridden it numerous times, and twice he crashed before we got there, causing us to abort the trip each time. The first time, he injured one leg and foot after sliding on some gravel he failed to notice. After he was seen to at a rural hospital, I had to rent a cube van to transport him and our bikes back to Toronto from upstate New York. Was he unlucky, or do I bring him bad luck? Who knows? So I don't have any pictures from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Here's something I wrote about bike trips, while I was still riding. At least I don't have to explain to you guys which Parkway I'm referring to. MISS YOU ON THE HIGHWAY I saw beautiful sights, And spent chilly nights, Camping by the Parkway. Though I miss you each time Into the saddle I climb, Sometimes I must just get away. Just me and the bike On that lonely turnpike, It really does do my soul good. To let my mind roam, I must ride far from home; I don't leave you behind to be rude. I need solitude, Like my body needs food. Sometimes I must just get away! On a twisty mountain ride I've got to see the other side, Though we know that getting there is half the fun! There is nothing like the feeling, I'm on holidays, I'm wheeling! It sure feels good to be back on a run! When I set up my camp, Park the bike, go for a tramp, The wilderness is where I want to be! Though I miss you every day, In my own peculiar way, For one more week the highway man is free! Then I'll come back to stay, Though it's far, I know the way. You're my lover and I've always known it's true. When the highway run is done, Finished trav'lin, had my fun, You're the one, the only one, I come home to... Pat

  3. Thanks for that @Marvel. May you all have a blessed Christmas also! @JohnJ lights in the doghouse is a novel idea. @grasshopper needs all the light he can get in there kinda maybe. 12:30AM here and 22F with rain coming in overnight then on and off for the next 3 days w/highs in the mid 50's. Crazy. Slipped out today and picked up a fifth of Johnny Walker Black label on sale @ the liquor store, which is nuts. Don't drink just hoard Scotch and Whiskey. This month it's been Single Barrel whiskey's every Saturday. Some semi-decent brands are showing up but I'm clueless as to what to buy. Some 350-400 range but it's gone in a heartbeat and only shows up in select stores on short email notice. I'm waiting on the bottle lottery drawing, which is 1 bottle per person who signed up for it in a state-wide drawing. THAT's the killer deal. ALL top shelf at regular prices that you NEVER seen in ANY stores so it's pretty much like a unicorn hunt. Fingers are crossed cause I entered all 15 draws so we'll see. A local kid won a Xmas basket FULL of top shelf stuff last year. 1 draw state-wide for it and FREE is always good. Needless to say he and his friends drank every bit of it and didn't even invite me over. I counted 11 empty bottles laying in a pile and it was all to die for. He just HAD to post a pic on fb. Grrrrrrr... Wimmen out @ Christmas? I buckle up, put my helmet on, look 6 ways twice before EVER moving the car. That's the way I roll til 2 weeks into January. Wimmen will run you over around here cause every one of them is on a mission from God. Preservation of Species Version 1.0.

  7. What I mean George is I quit the upper tier of updates and dropped back to the beta level where they are more stable way more stable. But the thing is they're only good for a certain amount of time if you don't update. With the problems getting internet here... I will not give out my SS number when trying to find options for purchasing internet. One doofus thought I might do that. Well that company is out. Too many trees for starlink and it cost too much anyhow, so I'm back at the drawing board and won't have it immediately. But will have all my CDs.

  8. I think this is the issue with a LOT of recordings, where there are discrepancies in the acoustic space of different tracks in a mix. You might not even notice listening on some generic direct radiator speakers. The more resolving they are, the more apparent it is.

  9. Ok, anyone else see that big deer in @JohnJ's pic? Bwa ha ha ha! 😂 Some nice shots there @Islander I did about 80% of my shooting in B&W back in the day. Sooo much easier to work with in the lab than C-41. Lost a SI cover shot the year of the Ohio State - Indiana 2OT hoops win in Cbus because it wasn't in color. Every big gun on the planet was there including SI and they ALL missed the winner. Was truly a hoot cause I was the only one to nail it and they couldn't figure out HOW I knew the ball was going where it did. They ALL thought Jim Jackson was gonna take the final shot. I just told 'em ya have to listen and stand by what He tells you to do. That's exactly what I did that day. Did make 1k from a magazine on it though.

  12. ACH JA ...I couldn't say NO again , since today I have my NoS Entré 1 MC in operation. Originally manufactured by Soltear Acoustics Inc. Japan. The Lentek Entré 1 MC was designed by Mr. Matsudaira, who began his career as a designer at Tokyo Sound Co. in 1959. For ten years he worked for NHK (Japanese National Broadcast) where he designed tonearms and cartridges. In 1967 he moved to SUPEX as chief designer. From 1970 to the late 1990s, he worked as a senior designer for many famous brands, including Entré, Miyabi, Kouetsu, Audio Craft and Air Tight. In 2003, he founded his own company My Sonic Lab in Japan. Technical specifications: Frequency Response: 10 Hz – 50.000 Hz Output Voltage: 0,2 mV (3.54cm/s, 1000 Hz, 45 degree) Channel Balance: within 1 db (1000 Hz) Channel Separation: better than 28 db (1000 Hz) Compliance: 10 x 10-6cm/dyne Impedance: 3.0 ohms Recommended Load Resistance: 100 ohms Tracking Force: 1.8 grams + 0.3 grams Vertical Tracking: 20 Degree Stylus: diamond Elliptical, with a radius of 0.3 mil x 0.8 mil Mass: 5.8 grams Mounting: ½” or 12.7 mm Runs on 100 Ohm Load & 74 dB amplification, sounds simply enchanting!

  15. YouTube is preventing me from finding other covers. I know there's more, but even searching with quotes it's no dice! Things are more difficult on the phone sometimes. I'm talking about the kind that abounds this time of year & is platonic!

  21. It's the roads that Google puts me on, very bad surfaces and not even secondary. I'm talking there fifth place roads. I'm getting a 26 ft truck, 20 is not enough so that's that! Well, I've gotten rid of four of the six fluorescent fixtures in this place. Problem is the one over the kitchen sink is just too much for out there. Think I'll take it, put it in the laundry/pantry and remove the one I just put in there, it's too much light for that room also. I'll take it to the dog house! Then I'll have to get a picture of it for @grasshopper! He might like it.

  22. So... I took the pic of the window in a church in Manila, on the first trip I took there in early 2007. I added the text to use for Christmas cards the next year. If I'm not on here before Christmas, everyone have a Merry and Blessed Christmas!

  23. I'm really happy with the way everything turned out. When I set out on this trip I wanted to minimalize as much as possible but it seems lately I have been adding a component here and a component there. Its usually very tidy but Christmas kinda spills over. I need to add more treatments but what I have work pretty well The big speakers in the bottom of the first picture are some Pioneers for my son who just turned 22, 2 days ago. he bought his own house and has a room he hangs out in...the apple doesn't fall far haha

  34. Since I've bought my 1972 Heresies in 2018, I rarely see vintage Klipsch speakers being sold on auction sites here in Belgium. Today, a 1963 set of Heresies in pretty good state is up for sale. Take a look here: https://www.catawiki.com/nl/l/78195201?aci=385b403d-1016-4a09-a553-5235408bfd2a&utm_campaign=Audio+Equipment-BE&utm_content=2ehandsbe&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=coop&fbclid=IwAR2VKFCdkDI6ldLtlRxLnaxLoQFsPXa-JtbCJFkAv1tYnl7V1ykcwkLG7KQ I'm not involved in this. Just sharing...

  36. There is no better value than a used Yamaha CX-A5000, with ESS Sabre DAC chips to use with PA5 II's in mains and Ayima 07's for the rest. The Yamaha was $2,500 new. Got 2 myself as refurbs for $1,300. Now you can get one for a lousy $500. YPAO room eq rocks with one mike reading. You will thank me later, I guarantee it. Cornwalls are Fab and you may not need subs with them for music. Great 5.0 setup you will have.

  41. @henry4841 Your Sony is a beauty! This is my 1973 Marantz 1060. I bought it in 1974 and used it for several years. In the late 80s, I replaced it with a Denon integrated then later with a Rotel multi-channel system. A few years ago, I thought I might sell it since I wasn't using it. I pulled it out of storage, cleaned it up, and replaced a switch that had gone bad. The walnut case had dried out a bit over the years so I cleaned it, gave it a once over with some 0000 steel wool, then a few coats of finish oil. Other than the worn screen printing over the Power button, it looks great. So great that I decided to keep it with plans to someday re-cap it. I finally tackled the rebuild a couple of years ago with new/larger caps and replaced the output transistors at the same time. My brother-in-law has a stock 1060 of approximately the same vintage and we put them together one day so we could A/B them to see if we could really tell a difference. We could, and it was pretty amazing. The upgrade turned this already good amp into something special and I've been using it since. I don't plan to let this one go.

  42. Beauty of this hobby is that one can choose whether you want to be a purist and stay away from anything changing the signal like Shakey mentioned, Or have fun and listen to the music how you want even if it changes it. I am a believer in a pure signal and have not used tone controls for some time. But I do understand and appreciate those who want that control. One of the reasons I went with the Cornwall’s is the emotion they give me. That was coming from very accurate speakers AND after auditioning $8k Monitor Audio towers. I just preferred the sound. Maybe they aren’t SUPER accurate to the source sound (low end) but they are fun and that’s what counts for me.

  43. I have never listened to two amps that I thought sounded the same. Never. And I have owned about 35 amps since the early 90s. Any time I have compared one to another there have been differences.
