  2. Thanks to Josh for showing me this. I've loved Paul Brady's music and songs for years. This guitar style is hard enough, but he sings right along with it, too.

  8. Round? What's that Dave? Naaa never! Oh. 'round here! He, he, he. I did fill it up several times. Then between downpours I went to the dump six times with the seats folded down again and the back 2/3 of the RDX filled with boxes. It got colder today as the day went on. When the clouds started spittin' around 3 pm I heard some sleet hitting the cars outside the Kroger. The flurries they called for never came this evening like they called for though.

  9. Phase 1 Phase 2 Took the UPS about 45 minutes for the battery to recharge after being unplugged for so long. I also had to set it up to put power to the outputs because it had been unplugged for so long!! Well, the PC tried furiously to connect. I think because it ran for a good while before I heard it calm down. So I'll see what happens another day. For now I can just grab a disc and put whatever I want in the vehicle when I have to go somewhere.

  11. About 4 years ago, @Blackbird gifted me a pair of Heresy speakers in pretty darned good condition. I listened to them often at work and a bit at home. @MookieStl examined them and told me they were "1.5" editions. I had to pay shipping from Florida to Missouri, but they were well worth that and even had the proper top and bottom shipping styrofoam to help them make a safe trip. I agreed at the time to: Pay shipping to receive them. Give them a good home where they would be enjoyed. Keep the shipping materials. Offer them up when I was done with them with the same deal applying going forward. No sales or gifts to anyone, they must be offered up here to the next recipient when you're done enjoying them. You must be willing to accept the above terms and conditions. There is no time limit on "done". Just give them a good home and listen to them. Ideally, you'll have them a while and pass the joy along someday. I will accept PMs starting today, and I will make the decision on January 5th as to who they go to. That person must provide a ship-to zip code (U.S. only, sorry) and be willing and ready to paypal the cost of the shipping on that day, providing that the amount isn't beyond your budget. If the amount is too much for you, they go to the next person I choose. This is not on a first-come first-served basis. Replies to this thread are not being considered, only PMs. On January 5th, I will announce here who gets them. Tell me what speakers you have now, and why you'd like to own a set of Heresys. Tell me why you should be the person that gets them next. Tell me you agree to the terms. My reputation here is solid; this is not a scam. The original thread is here:

  12. Ohio State took one for the team last night against Missouri last evening in the Cotton Bowl. Yaassss, it was about as ugly as they come. Time for a bit of a short critique. 1. Your 11-1 QB hits the portal mainly because of the fan base throwing him under the bus all year expecting elite QB's like we've had in the past few years. His first REAL season as QB1 and he goes 11-1? He's only gonna get better. 2. Next man up who gets tackled early and winds up w/a high ankle spraih and done for the evening. Replaced by a #3 Freshman QB. 3. Easy fix for Missouri.. Stack their D line box and shoot Defensive backs/ends on every play. Sure it worked. The QB had zero time to pass and was running for his life going backwards trying to make a play. 4. The sun came up this morning to that loving fan base calling for the O-lines, Coaches, and players heads for such a bad showing and NOT getting a win. 5. Silly humans! ALL of it DID show one thing imo. The gladiators AND coaches should only be allowed to hit the transfer portal or declde to go to the NFL in Feburary NOT before bowl games! It's not a whine from me but only logic imo.

  13. Long Cool Woman has a lil bckstory for me anyway. The local FM station started having a football scoreboard show on Friday nights after the games back in the day. Just a phoneboard for scores and comments. I was asked about a catch song for the intro. Shall we say nailed? The phone board is still using the song on both Friday and Saturday nights 50 years later. It's one of the best sports scoreboards in North Central Ohio. As soon as people hear the song after the games they grab their cells and blow for 2 hours. lol Always nice to upstage the wire services for sports scores That's why it stood alone in the post. Alllllll it took was once! @Full Range Those two and "Destroyer?" Just crazy good ole tunes!

  16. That morning, I was sitting in the bedroom, reading a couple of emails and cards that friends had sent. I read some prayers out loud, and told her that we would miss her, but we would all be ok and it was alright for her to go. About that time, the hospice nurse pulled up the driveway, and I told Barbara that I needed to go let her in. She was bringing a morphine pump, as the capsules were too hard for her to swallow. I went out to the kitchen and let the nurse in. She showed me how the pump would work, and then headed down the hall to the bedroom. She was gone when we got into the room. The nurse said "I think our angel has flown away." Anna Grace came with one of her roommates, and we all sat around the table telling stories and drinking the second bottle wine that @fini had sent us from California. That night I fired up the ST70 and Juicy Music Merlin and listened to her favorite music. I'll be forever grateful to the forum members who bought the refurbed Merlin from Mark and sent to us to enjoy the music together while we could. I think of Barbara and you all every time I fire it up.

  18. I thought it would be interesting to find out how we have upgraded our systems through the years. My first stereo that I bought with my own hard earned money was when I was in high school('72). It was a quad(remember them?) Panasonic 'Whitney' model. It was $200 and it was a 4x10 watt unit. It had 4-6.5 inch full range speakers (aarghh) and a BSR turntable. It took a beating and I still have it in the attic. Everything still functions on it.

  19. These guys were given a free education due to their talent. They should be thankful and fulfill the obligation. Lets play all season and then for one more game now youre worried you might get hurt? I know its the signing bonus and since they never really paid attention to getting an education what else can they count on? Without that education it all will be gone before they know it. But as long as they dont learn they can be manipulated like the rest of uneducated america.

  20. Really, 1 more makes 5. The only way to beat that hand is with 6 or 7 of them. Of course, a Belle Klipsch would also make a great front centre unit. The BK even makes a slightly better TV stand than a Scala, because it's only 18" deep, unlike the 24" of the La Scalas. Amusingly, Spell Check somehow came up with Skala. Yes, the La Scala plays Ska and Ska-Punk music quite well. On the AV side of ska-punk recordings, No Doubt's ROCK STEADY L*I*V*E DVD rocks really well on La Scalas. That was one of the first DVDs I watched and listened to after I had done the JubScala conversion to my first Scalas. And my socks? Knocked off! Just a bit of enabling, both ways. You're all welcome!

  29. Not sure what are you talking about. You can’t use the Ti diaphragms or use the Ti drivers without modifying the network. The parts go in between the autoformer and driver. Klipsch doesn’t sell the filter section separately. Since it a non Klipsch mod, the Klipsch alternative is the Heresy III upgrade kit - which is really the correct way to do it.

  31. I normally make some roast duck for Christmas dinner. We had cracked open a ham on Christmas Eve so I didn’t end up making the duck until yesterday. Brined in a pineapple-orange juice and fresh Thyme mixture and then steamed before a high temp sear in a cast iron skillet in the oven. Shallots and Chard were then cooked in a balsamic glaze made from the pan drippings.

  36. I always thought having cassettes and CDs in my car was a nuisance and a distraction but... (I came across this on some social media network...) Muhammad Ali had a record player that played 45 rpm records built into his automobile. In the 60s, Norelco "Auto Mignon" only held one 45 rpm record at a time, for 4½ minutes of play, potentially distracting the driver with the need for multiple record changes. Consumer Reports claims the Norelco players were able to keep the needle on the record while driving and that the needle performance was "unaffected by rough roads, car sway, and sharp braking." However, "a steady stylus had its price, wearing down the records from the high pressure required to keep it in place. And the RCA unit's turntable ran fast, speeding up records," according to CR. In addition, there was nowhere to put the vinyl since the Norelco didn't store any records. Car record players soon made way for the eight-track tape deck. In September 1965, the Ford Motor Company introduced factory-installed and dealer-installed eight-track tape players as an option on three of its 1966 models (the sporty Mustang, luxurious Thunderbird, and high-end Lincoln), and RCA Victor introduced 175 Stereo-8 Cartridges from its RCA Victor and RCA Camden labels of recording artists catalogs.

  37. Remember when I mentioned a record I was looking for in the collection Well I couldn’t find it and that made me mad as hell So I purchased Richard Wright - Wet Dreams (The new Steve Wilson mix) And at the same time I purchased an obscure release that I’m sure no one here has heard of - By the way it was released only on cassette and again on vinyl a few years ago, and when I saw it I just had to have it. So I will keep it a secret for now and keep you in suspense until it arrives

  40. My buddy DJ’d a dance party at our local spot Saturday night. We had a good time but we were out way too late. yesterday afternoon I stopped by my other friends wood shop and we started putting a dent in a bottle of Angel’s Envy that our pastor gave him as a way of saying thanks for making coffee after church each Sunday. It’s pretty good stuff. This morning we got up and went to the Christmas mass and then came home and opened presents. the kids and I are adding to the ever growing fleet of Star Wars LEGO ships. Merry Christmas everyone! I hope your day is enjoyable and full of peace.

  42. I'm aware that I'm throwing a lot of info your way that's probably a bit difficult to digest in an integrated way. If you've been a fan of Danley's designs, you may feel a bit crestfallen at this point, not realizing what he has been doing all along. If you've been a student of exponential bass horn designs, all this may look very strange to you since the basic rules of horn length and reactance annulling are being violated--flagrantly. What I've found is that it's the size of a horn's mouth--not the horn's length and flare rate--that determine its real low frequency potential, assuming of course that conical or tractrix expansion profile types are fair game. Everything that I've learned about horns changed when Unity horns and the K-402 hit the scene. They seem to violate the rules--and they do. If you've got questions on any of the above that's not making sense, feel free to ask--who knows, you may find a flaw in the logic. Unlike many others that build loudspeakers, I hold less to Beranek's Law than you might guess. I've built quite a few loudspeakers in my life and there is no magic in this particular case--just a design based off the designs of other guys: mainly Danley...but also Roy. I make no excuses for their designs. Chris

  44. quote: Originally posted by forresthump: Besides generating huge tax revenue for the local community W*Mart is also a big charitable contributor to the communtities. They provide Jobs to the people who CHOOSE to work there. That means more tax revenues for the GOV from wages. They provide value in consumer purchasing. That means consumers can buy more, or save and invest more. Numerous Wal*Mart employees who started at minimum wage excelled and became managers. Many employees are now multi-millionaires from their stock plans and stock purchases. And Many investors have become wealthy from Wal*MArt stock. Like I said many of you own a piece of Wal*Mart and Don't know it. Look in your reports for your stock mutual funds, 401k and the like. A few points in the store's defense since this thread is obviously very one-sided. LOL Wally's is the LEAST charitable corporation in the country. Most of the money they donate to charity is raised by their employees and Wal-Fart takes the credit for it. They have the highest turnover rate of employees in the country so it must not be too great of a place to work for. No it is NOT more revenue for the Government. Most of those people qualify for the EITC (they get back more than they pay in) and at least half of the single mothers qualify for food stamps. Many things are actually more expensive than other stores. They throw in 'ringers' to make up for their 'loss leaders.' Yeah, some investors have become rich, but on the backs of the employees and the former merchants in the local economies they have devastated. I won't even mention the factories that they have forced to move off shore because of their bully tactics. Ask anyone who worked at 'The Huffy Bicycle Company" in Ohio. They were forced to move to China because of Wal-Mart's demands. There are some more lost jobs that helped those investors become rich. They're being sued in California because of their tactics. They're giving people 'manager titles' with a small pay increase (salaried) but are requiring them to work up to 80 hours. A huge winner for Wally's. There duties remain basically the same and Wal-Mart can hire less people. I can understand you wanting to come to their defense Forrest, but as for me,I can't find one thing to defend them on. Even Eisenhower said 'Big Business' has to be controled or they'll get out of hand.

Once thing I noticed about my VCRs. I bought a Panasonic back in '87 and used it really hard for years. I then bought a new Panasonic about 3 years ago which was supposed to be one of their best. I compared the old one to the new one and the old was much better . I do believe quality has degraded over the years.
