  3. Had a bit of time today so pulled this out again. Cloudy here for the E-Klipsch so blah. Typically Knopfler but "Beryl" is such a great song with an amazing back story. Wiki Beryl Bainbridge for more info and skim to the last graph. Tracker is the eighth solo studio album by the British singer-songwriter and guitarist Mark Knopfler, released on 16 March 2015 (17 March 2015 in North America).[1] Release[edit] Tracker was released on CD, double vinyl, deluxe CD with four bonus tracks, and a box set with the album on both CD and vinyl formats and a bonus CD with six extra tracks and a DVD with a short film directed by Henrik Hansen and an interview with Knopfler.[2]

  10. I know you didn’t ask me, but I’ve owned two different EL84 amps and both were excellent. A Music Reference RM10 II and an Aric Audio custom. I have also had many EL34 amps, also which were good. But if you don’t need the extra power, there is something special about the EL84 tube. That would be my choice.

  11. Amazon has what you need I'd remove the cup to see what it looks like inside before ordering anything though, should be an easy fix. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09CN7CWNN/ref=sspa_dk_detail_4?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B09CN7CWNN&pd_rd_w=UYbE1&content-id=amzn1.sym.386c274b-4bfe-4421-9052-a1a56db557ab&pf_rd_p=386c274b-4bfe-4421-9052-a1a56db557ab&pf_rd_r=NDM5BDR0MR3MN5TWSYXT&pd_rd_wg=z3y4x&pd_rd_r=39a03d35-d880-43f5-b955-ec0da1fa1fd6&s=electronics&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9kZXRhaWxfdGhlbWF0aWM

  12. What amps have you heard the EL84 in? Are you able to compare the sound to the EL34 power tube? I'm quite fond of my EL34s.

  14. As being one who was in the 90% area of the path, it dawned on me while seeing all of the vids and photos, that eclipse viewing is much like audio: That "last 10%" makes a HUGE difference and can be really hard to get to 🙂

  15. I've had a few boxes of things in my office from when my daughter moved out of town. One has papers detailing a lot of the family past. Lots of photos, although I also have bunches at home. The front row (adults) starting from the far right. Paternal great grandfather, great great grandfather, great great grandmother, great grandmother. My great great grandfather passed away in 1923 (born in 1843). His wife was born in 1849, died in 1946. I have some older pics from a studio that are in excellent shape.

  18. A song for every story. Scratch that "You'll never know how much I really love you" garbage! 😂 Hit 70 today for the eclipse. Cloudy but visible. Aside from airing the house out and playin some tunes it was pretty uneventful. Sure was strange outside though. No traffic and quiet except for the dogs barking. lol Nothing else to report! Carry on

  19. Yeah I love it when people’s ads say things like “just needs a light dusting/wipe down.” It’s like, do you not own a rag or have running water where you live??

  20. Wow! It's been so long since I've heard that I forgot it existed until just now. And where did it exist? At my cousin's country club swimming pool! Of course I played Foghat's Slow Ride and Fool for the City out of the very same jukebox

  21. If going from an XLR OUTPUT to a RCA INPUT be careful how you hook that up. I have no idea what the circuit topology of the RME DAC is but if the Minus output (usually pin 3) of the XLR is an active signal you do not want to tie to ground on your unbalanced RCA input. Much safer just to Y off the RCA output. Then use the subs LP filter control.

  22. To correct a statement made earlier in this thread that MIGHT be misleading...... from Wikipedia: Amplifiers often feature a "loudness" button, known technically as loudness compensation, that boosts low and high-frequency components of the sound. These are intended to offset the apparent loudness fall-off at those frequencies, especially at lower volume levels. Boosting these frequencies produces a flatter equal-loudness contour that appears to be louder even at low volume, preventing the perceived sound from being dominated by the mid-frequencies where the ear is most sensitive.

  24. I've had enough. Going to kick this system to the curb and just put it out with the trash! I don't think I have ever heard such clarity and presence in my life. I feel lucky. The musicians are here standing in front of me playing. I am connected to the music in a way I have not felt before.

  26. I’ve experimented with stacked Lascala’s for center channel , the top one upside down tweeter to tweeter . The vertical alignment with identical speakers made it difficult to detect any change in sound quality.

  28. Hey I'm not excited, but if the mods are going to delete post, maybe delete ones like Geezins as well so the remaining of the thread makes sense. How was I supposed to know there was a previous post, hence why I said, that it looked as he pulled up a 9 year old thread. Maybe a "report post as spam" button/option needs to be added so it doesn't appear that people are randomly reporting threads as spam?

  29. Yes prefer the stereo side also. Prefer no sub in that mode. Just me but lots of folks listening with the limited bookshelf lower range do. Rightly so... You of course have no such problem, lol Nice system.

  32. Wife is at work and I am rocking it up (LOUD) with an album that I is so good and I like every song on it Be dammed the neighbours 🤘 What is your favourite song? However this may be my last spin for a while as I have a stubborn blocked ear without any pain Doctor said it is a Eustachian tube disfunction and it will pass on its own in a few weeks (I don’t believe him) ‘Anyway to explain how it happened - while swallowing water it went the wrong way and I had a massive coughing fit and that in turn blocked the ear canal (Yes I have tried several manual clinical methods to pop the ear to no avail) Artist - Black Sabbath Title - Paranoid

  34. I don’t get the point of this experiment. Having two sets of different speakers playing at the same time in different positions has to destroy the soundstage of a track cut for stereo reproduction. no harm done here but the question remains - Why?

  36. I owned a McIntosh MA 252 and it sounded very good. I auditioned a Primaluna Evo 400 and preferred the sound over the MA 253 so I traded it in for the evo. I am very happy I moved to the all tube integrated amplifier as I love the sound with my Forte IVs

  37. We hi-fi enthusiasts are blessed. How, you ask? That would be because there's more than one HI-Fi Fairy. That lovely one (they're all lovely!) is now based in Berlin, but my system is so happy that other Hi-Fi Fairies come to visit it from time to time. If I ever get bored of that avatar picture, maybe another Hi-Fi Fairy will take her place.

  38. An opinion please? There is a pair of KG4's in oak on craigslist locally. Look real clean from pictures. $150.00 I have RF15s front dual 5.25", RC25 for center dual 5.25", RS35 6.25" surrounds and Onkyo 602 amp 85 watts per.. Do you think the KG4s would work with this setup?

  39. If I go from an onkyo 602 (85 x 7) to an 805 (130 x 7) how will this affect my sound? I have RF15, RC25, RS35, KSW10
    1 point
  40. Thank all of you. I found a like new 805 locally. It made a differece in sound and picture quality. I have one s-video input on my tv so the satelite reciever (STD not HD) and my DVD (not HD) are run thru the reciever with s-video. This was the same hook up for the 602. The wife said the picture was better and the voices were easier to understand. I never said a word and she noticed. The audio is clearer and more precise from all the speakers. Music was improved the same way and I like the direct mode.

  41. Has anyone had a B&K 507? If you have, what did you think of it ?

  42. Thanks everyone, I have read a lot of reviews on the 507. One review said as close to seperates as you can get. They say it uses the same pre amp as the ref 50.

  43. Thanks for your input about biwiring. I don't think I have to worry about over powering my speakers and damaging the tweeter. I'm over 50 yrs old and not into ground shakeing music or theater. Loud enough to hear the sound track well is all I need. The difference in the overall sound quaility of my speakers as I mentioned earlier is worth the risk to me. This is set up in our living room. The room is 12Ft. x 15ft. My system: 2 RF15s 46hz-20khz 96db 100watt 400watt peak 2 5.25" woofers 1 1" titanium tweeter 1 RC25 69hz-20khz 96db 125watts 500watts peak 2 5.25" woofers 1 1" titanium tweeter 2 RS35s 81hz-20khz 97db 125watts 500watts peak 1 6.5" woofer 2 1" titanium tweeter 2 Polk FXi30 55hz-26khz 89db 100watts 2 5.25" woofers 2 1" tweeters 1 KSW 10 sub Onkyo 602 85watts per channel Monster HTS3600 MKII ( I would not be with out one since owning one. Garbage in Garbage out ) Mitsubishi 35" CRT (solid oak cabinet) 20yrs. old gets a great pic. Pioneer DVD Directv (not high def.)

  44. UPDATE !! I read a lot of the info on biwiring on this site and elseware. My center and fronts are biwireable. I decided to try it. Two days ago I biwired them. More detail, better low end, improved clarity. A cheap improvement in sound. Worked for me !!

  45. Thank all of you for your help. I will look for speakers and recievers when I can.
    1 point
  46. Thank you all !! The RF15's are 96db 100 watts, RS35 97db 125 watts, RC25 96db 125watts all 8 ohm. These are efficient speakers. Maybe better power as was mentioned or a reciever that is delivering the rated wattage to all channels which was also mentioned. No blue ray yet, I have a 35 inch CRT tv that is 20 yrs. old. My DVD is svideo, digi optical and so is the STD def. DTV. The reason I was asking for opinions is that I was told at two big box stores and two local high end stores that a newer, more pwerful reciever would improve my sound. I was told it would improve the low end and help the mids and highs. The brands were pioneer elite, yamaha, onkyo, marantz, nad. I think they wanted to make a sale. Maybe they are all correct and I would hear an improvement. The only way to know is to try it and that will have to wait for now. Thanks again

  47. Below is a post from Pete Fowler, who did the mods on scratch built cabinets. And a pic from another poster who built cabs from scratch (bass bin only, shown on its side with Oris Horn on top). My buddy Thermio and I both scratch built a set of LS bass cabs and he did the djk mod to them. He took measurements on one cabinet as the mods progressed. Here is the data: 200 160 125 100 80 63 50 40 31 25 20 HZ 77 80 79 73 72 78 68 60 61 52 51 dB Stock, mouth braced 76 78 78 73 69 75 65 60 66 56 52 4.5 cuft, no ports 76 78 77 75 74 80 70 60 68 54 54 Two 4"dia 10" ports 76 79 78 76 75 80 71 60 68 54 53 Ports cut to 7" The interesting thing with 10" ports is the boxes went deep, but the snappy, fast horn sound was lost! Cutting the port length to 7" brought the snap and speed back to same as stock, plus the lows remained, esp. at the 31Hz box tuning point. This data is with K33E driver and light stuffing. We think a K43E in this box would be superb, but haven't tried it yet. I'm going to try the mods using two 4" ports with both ends flaired (Thermio used 4" PVC). Flaring is supposed to reduce distortion and possibly increase the gain. Parts Express sells the kits. Neither of us is going back to stock. Pete
