  1. I guess Mr. Becker went to join "Parker's Band." Glad I got to see them at the Beacon Theater when the were playing a different Steely Dan album each night. The wife & I saw the "Aja" show. The band then played a bunch of songs from other records as well. Great Show, RIP.
  2. Awesome Blu Ray player, the best I have seen. CD playback nearly equal to my Rotel 1072 in a non blind test. I paid more than that for mine used w/o the wireless dongle that I bought from Oppo. Someone will be very happy with this machine. GLWTS
  3. 1978 BMW 320I. Used, Ran until the tranny dropped out. 1984 Honda Accord Used, great car, ran until the frame started rotting away, getting dangerous. 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport. New, totaled by some tool on the Long Island Expressway. Aaargh.
  4. The wife has been blending the Mayorga Honduran coffee 50/50 with the Costco Columbian, works nicely together. Costco had a sale on the Mayorga Cubano, so we bought a couple of pounds but we didn't like that one quite as much.
  5. I just made a small donation to the American Red Cross for victims of Harvey. Best wishes to all Texans and those here from the Klipsch forums who have been effected by this epic storm.

  7. I plunked down my $2 for the Powerball drawing this week. I know what one of the first things I would do would be. That Walnut finish with the lambswool grill is outstanding. Too bad my odds are 1 in 272,000, 000.................
  8. Murray's is awesome, I don't get to the Village very often but that is always worth stopping into.
  9. Cheap at twice the price compared to what I am charged on the east end of Long Island. $2500 cash for 3 white pines and an old bent oak. Stump removal only went as far as to when the grinder broke, sorry. I had to pay my contractor to be there to make sure they didn't screw anything up.This was a fly by night, bootleg operation. A legit tree removal company quoted me $4500. Yikes.
  10. Haha, first world problem! They are beautiful, i wish I had a use for them. GLWTS.

  12. Strikes me as more of a mortal sin.
  13. The most important thing is that your family is safe. things can be replaced, lives cannot. An event like this will certainly put things into perspective. Best of luck with your recovery and dealing with your insurance company.
  14. I can resist everything except temptation. Oscar Wilde

  19. I cannot understand the premise of the Bitcoin. There is a limited amount of them, they can be "mined" and the underlying value is the "Blockchain" technology that is the basis of the Bitcoin. You cannot take physical possession, it exists only in the digital realm, you can lose your bitcoins in a computer crash and there will shortly be several rival digital currencies backed by international banking entities. My question is where does the Bitcoin derive it's intrinsic worth? Besided the point that two people are willing to buy & sell it at a particular dolar value? ( The maxim "all trades clear at a price".) A nation's currency is backed by gold holdings or the ability to levy taxes to pay off a nation's creditors. ( I am not looking to delve into if Fort Knox has gold or the Feds QE machinations.) Many people have made fortunes trading Bitcoins, but what makes them worth anything in actual terms? Are we just trading tulips at this point?
  20. I think that all good, right thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that all good, right thinking people in this country are fed up with being told that all good, right thinking people in this country are fed up with being sick and tired. I'm certainly not, and I'm sick and tired of being told that I am. Graham Chapman
  21. Sorry dirtmudd, no help on the Bronx bakery.
  22. As far as Italian goodies are concerned, we are spoiled here in NYC. For a short while I lived a few blocks away from Cammareri bakery in Brooklyn, the one from the movie Moonstruck, one of the smallest stores I have ever been in. Lines out the door, especially for Easter with the ricotta pies, etc. Esposito pork store over on Court Street, that place was awesome. I put 10 lbs on in a year living in that neighborhood. Now Mario Batali has opened an "Eataly" in the new World Trade Center a short walk from my apartment. Very pricy but everything is "Top Notch". They have a mozzerrella "bar" with fresh burrata, oh man....
