  1. Did you ever hear it(or any) unmodified one?
  2. I wanted to mention also that I am very fortunate in the fact that I got a schematic of the D75 off of Crown's website. So far the amps I'm working on are built exactly like the schematic shows. This is a huge plus.
  3. No I did not see the $199 deal. I got these 5 units for $130 total. Someone on this forum posted an alert last year that a guy in San Diego had like 30 of these he wanted to get rid of. He wanted $50 a piece originally. By the time I got down there like 2 months later he was practically giving them away.
  4. I am quite late to this as I was not even a member of the forum when this was done. But I read through that whole linked thread and still don't completely understand all that was done. I see the P.S. capacitance was increased and some coupling caps were changed. Some slower but quieter opamps were changed. Speeding up the slew rate was alluded to but I did not see what was done to accomplish this explained. And changing the input impedance? On the D75s I am modifying all one would have to do to increase the input impedance (unbalanced input) is to change the gain pots from their standard 25K to the desired 47K(practically would be 50K as this is a standard value).
  5. Late to the party but would this stuff help? https://www.amazon.com/3M-General-Purpose-Adhesive-Cleaner/dp/B00ZIM9XPI/ref=pd_sim_263_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00ZIM9XPI&pd_rd_r=W9FTEK8MRW98FEF6NRJW&pd_rd_w=NdCOT&pd_rd_wg=M45Nb&psc=1&refRID=W9FTEK8MRW98FEF6NRJW
  6. Hey Dave, is this the biggest SNAFU you been involved with vis a vis the government? If so you are truly blessed.
  7. Like an amp. Actually as of yet I have no idea. This is all on my bench here at work after hours that I work on them. But seriously are you thinking or saying I should leave one un mod'ed and then compare?
  8. Just buttoned up the first of 5 Crown D75s that I am mod'ing. I replaced the P.S. caps, all coupling caps, put machined sockets in for the I.C.s, up graded the opamps to LME4920s and LME 49710s and then started adjusting the compensation capacitors. I have increased the slew rate to approx. 10 volts per microsecond from the as reported by JohnWarren anemic 3 volts per microsecond. Also adjusted the IOC circuit to turn on the red LED at clipping not 10 or 20 dB below. I am getting 40 watts per channel out into 8 ohms and over 100 watts bridged into 8 ohms. I have not yet tried 2 channel into 4 ohms . Second unit is mod'ed and will be on the test bench this evening.
  9. "I was born in a welfare state ruled by bureaucracy controlled by civil servants and people dressed in gray. Got no liberty, got no privacy cuz the 21st century people took it all away from me"------ The Kinks
  10. Makes me wish I coulda/woulda waited. I love the Cherry on the IIIs, My IIs are quit a bit darker/not as beautiful IMO. Oh well.
  11. All I know is:Don't throw out any paper work that has ANY personal info on it without shredding it, burning it, or LOL giving it to the goats. Seems like Costco always has one for sale.
  12. Morning Gents (can I use this for both sexes?) Up and at 'em. Couple cups down, gotta get outside and finish moving some drain line and 5 surface drains. Stupid me I originally put the drains too close to the back of a retaining wall. When they're moved it'll be much better and landscaping chores can continue. Later.....
  13. Yea those Belles have been mellowing for 40 years Sunlight does that, even to some degree on walnut. Are they WO or WL? My KHorns are WO and as far as I know Klipsch just used a clear oil finish on them. A couple times in the past about 30 years I have just used Watco Oil finish in "natural" to re finish them. For routine maint. i just use lemon oil. About 5 to 6 years ago i had to replace a piece of edge banding on the tophat and yep it did not match. But it looks better than the cracked broken piece it replaced. I have no idea how to match a 40 yr old patina. Perhaps some more expert woodworking types will jump in.
  14. @shiva You and me are practically neighbors, about 15 miles as the crow flies
  15. Me neither, I call on Mac and the tech who made the determination that these two problems are/were not related. A damaged output transformer which was covered in warranty could not take out the tubes? Bull Feathers!!
  16. Yea I know its been almost unbearable this winter
  17. Late to this thread but I was gonna say the same thing. And Kent is very knowledgeable and easy going. Just got my 4080 and I've been on the phone with him a couple times already. He even responded to an email last night and it was like 9PM Toronto time. @Turbox
  18. His "friend" said close enough and put 'em on the meat wagon.
  19. Yea I meant high WAF for the new owner Of course you knew that.
