Um, with speakers like this, it's all about the location.

And the circle is now complete....

Phone db meters can be useful and accurate, the app I use is much more useful than the Radio Shack db meter, and I found it was calibarated about the same. Perhaps a volt meter across the speaker terminals at speaker or amp can be helpful, maybe about 2.83 volts is 1 Watt at 8 ohms. 98 db is very loud and uncomfortable, I find 80 db at about 10 feet away to be a fairly loud and lively listening level.

Multi conductor cable for tri-amp speaker wire assembly?
Racer X replied to TexDrone's topic in Technical/Restorations
Interesting looking wire, but this may be a concern. I once had multiple runs of speaker wire tightly bundled, but noticed improvement when I spaced them out. Interested to hear your findings.... -
Wait, a Dynakit ST35 is the perfect tube amp ? Whodathunk...? Glad it works well for you.

I once was a slave to the vinyl. Weekly trips to all the used record shops, getting my fingers all funky flipping through endless bins of records. Buying records I never played. Playing the same five records as I became a lazier DJ shuffling my records. One day an amp fritzed and I just chunked it all. After a five year hiatus, I started playing stereo again. One day I saw a Japanese idol video on youtube, and it changed my life. Five years in, still all Japanese idols all the time. I now like to play mp3 files and I get just as much enjoyment if not more than when I was spinning records. Having my entire curated collection a tap or two away....

Thanks for the clarification, have not seen that one, rare bird sighting indeed.

Rolling wires can be an easy, fun way to get a change in the system. Internal speaker wires have pretty much same effect as the external run. I've experimented some with solid core silver plated teflon insulation, now I'm leaning towards the vintage type: tinned stranded cotton insulation. Lots of interesting wire here at reasonable price https://www.apexjr.com/wire.html

Agree a Variac auto transformer is exactly what the OP seems to be describing, not sure why he ruled it out in his initial post.

Sometimes you may see both Cardinals, a real treat.

Listening to nature: For me it is the call of the Cardinal that always takes me back there, my favorite birdcall.

This thread so much better than that other one

Echoing Schu here, also ran wall of sound, Cornwall IIs flanked by LaScalas, almost edge to edge on the short wall of a small room. My current set up of Heresy ( one pair toed in 45 degrees, pulled out well away from front and side walls ) on the long wall of a larger room yields much better sound stage and center image.

So last year....
-
Once went to a demo where the guy had about ten different pairs of speakers in a room and you used a flashlight to trigger the photoswitch above each speaker pair supposedly already leveled matched. His transmission line speaker sounded very nice, but the speaker I was there to compare was LaScala. Interestingly, of course every speaker sounded different. Today, it is always a big leap of faith tainted by hours upon hours of brainwashing and confirmation bias as one tries to sort through the abundance of available information.

The internet ( or at least this forum ) is funny that way. Orwell warned us of this....
