JL Sargent
Hey Guys, remember the thread "3-D anyone?". https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/119204-3-d-anyone/?hl=cheap#entry1318413 Well seems I'm not the only one who didn't care for it. 3D production has come to a screeching halt! http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9240667/The_3D_TV_fad_is_already_over I guess we can get on with 4K or whatever you call the next thing. http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/3d-tv-is-dead-long-live-4k Edited February 8, 2014 by JL Sargent

Sancho Panza
Yes, I have a 3-D setup & 2 Blus in 3-D. Like WORK watching in 3-D; nice, but only occasionally worth the effort.

oscarsear
I've always been legally blind in the left eye. Depth perception sucks. 3D productions of any sort were/are just figures with blurry perimeters. On the upside........... got me that 4F draft classification. Well, not immediately. I still got drafted and the Army figured out there was a real problem in basic.
Mallette
Sucked, didn't it? However, it's done for TV what the quad fiasco did for high fidelity, put a "Hindenburg" mentality on a sorely needed and obviously needed technology. I don't spend a lot of money on TVs. No matter how great the dynamic range, vibrant the colors, or "smart," it still doesn't fool my cat and it never will as long as it's flat as a pancake. Even stereo is WAY ahead of the finest video technology which remains the visual equivalent of mono sound. Watching movies and such remains an audio activity with video assist for me until a glassless, real looking 3D system is developed that can pass the Mallette's Cat test. I could care less about 3D for home use personally even though I am about to go (in about 2 hours) to a klipsch equipped iMax theater... pay my 18$... and sit down to watch Gravity one last time before the movie is no longer available in theaters. Where is this fabled theater? Is it Town Square? What speakers to they have?

Quiet_Hollow
3D has it's place IME. On a screen-distance combination that supports a 50-60 degree viewing angle, at 1080p or higher resolutions using neutral to wide shots where the added depth perception doesn't distract from the frame. ...and like they do now, where it's an option for the audience. Offering 2D showing for those not interested. Where 3D sucks (just the same as in audio), is when it's incorporated as a parlor trick. For example: In post, the director hovers over the effects technician, takes a drag off a joint, and says, "This shot right here, that super tight ground shot where the horses run over the camera...yeah, yeah, see how far you make them jump off the screen right there. Not enough...more! It doesn't matter if they fall out of frame and it's stuttering, this is going to be some hot sh*t right there on the big screen." Puff, inhales again. "Audience will crap there pants when they see this..."

CECAA850
That's one technology that never really appeared to me in the first place. Glad I wasn't an early adopter like I was with HDDVD.
garyrc
That's what happened in the 1950's. Most filmmakers didn't use it well either time. I found it distracting, and the cause of eye strain. Glasses passed out at Avatar were reflective. The industry should concentrate on higher resolution for both cinema and home screens, and should encourage bigger screens. 4K would be nice, and should become the standard, but why wasn't adopted as soon as we got rid of CRTs? BlackGTS
The ONLY time that I have seen it and have been impressed was watching Avatar in 3D at the theater. Not distracting at all and at times I thought that stuff was raining down on me. Ron
