oldtimer
I would just be happy with better logic and critical thinking. We have been living without that for quite awhile.

Makes the ones in Katy and Baytown look empty. Hopefully survived that. I'll know in a day or two. The only reason we stopped there was to meet my daughter. It was a halfway place between her and us. They just got another dog and needed the spare crate we had.

Looked like that Jaws movie... Interesting, that movie emphasized a new local reporter who was cautioned not to mention "shark" in her report but instead "fish infested waters." The Mayor and City counsel urged a "boating accident" narrative. The scientist is brought in comes and calls bs on the boating accident and then there is a struggle whether to close the beachs. A kid eats it on his raft. Mother slaps Chief of Police saying he knew. They finally acknowledge a problem and confront it directly.

To be fair to the Sheriff, he was against it as, they had disemboweled another species of shark and had looked at the radius bitemark. Not the shark. At the time people just walked away from their houses. The economy sucked. Hawaii still won't learn from being dependent. Not the shark. Chief, not Sherrif, it's an important distinction. Sherriff's are typically elected and police chiefs are typically (not always) appointed/hired by city council or city manager. Sherriffs are only answerable to the people, the check/balance to this is County/Parish controls their budget. Chiefs on the other hand can be fired by Mayor/City Council/City Manager. Thus, a mayor can influence someone like Chief Brodie on how quick to take action, what crimes to emphasize, ignore and so on.
