  1. All this talk about cables inspired me. I figure they will cost me about $1.00/foot. How do you think they'll sound?

  2. So I got this pair of La Scala's that I was not looking for, and seems I remember some talk about building a riser that influenced the bass. Seems like it had 2 ports coming out the front. I'm thinking that this is something I can do. If I don't like it I'm only out some plywood and maybe a little plastic pipe. Unless I could put square ports. As long as I can change it back to stock if I want. I wonder what, if any the difference between round vs rectangular ports might make. This would defiantly have to have WAF with looks as well as sound. John

  5. LaScalas...cool! Round look nice. Guessing if the dimensions are near those of the round in size, you should be good to go. Although, thinking there is more to it. Also guessing you did a search and found the most unobtrusive method for the add-on riser. Whatever works for making it acceptable.

  7. I have a home theater system and also a tube stereo system. Both systems are sharing the same front left and right speakers, and I want to build a switch box to easily switch from one to another. Frankly, I am tired of manually doing this. T.H.E. . . B.O.X front: Rotary A/B switch back: Inputs:Tube preamp right channel RCA/coax Tube preamp left channel RCA/coax SS preamp right channel XLR SS preamp left channel XLR Phono right channel RCA/coax Phono left channel RCA/coax 120V Power 12V Power Outputs:SS amp output right XLR SS amp outputs left XLR Tube amp outputs right RCA/coax Tube amp outputs left RCA/coax Phono right RCA/coax Phono left RCA/coax SS 120V (5A) out 12V trigger to relay out Tube 120V (5A) out External power supply: 120V in 12V trigger in for relay SS 120V (5A) out Tube 120V (5A) out activity: SWITCH A position - Tubes Power off the SS preamp 120V using relay (the amp will be switched off using the 12v signal) Power on the tube pre and amps 120V using relay. Switch phono RCA outputs to tube Switch amp RCA outputs to tube SWITCH B position - SS (Home theater) Power off the tube pre and amps 120V using relay Power on the SS preamp 120V using relay. (the amp will be switched on using the 12v signal) Switch phono RCA outputs to SS Switch amp XLR outputs to SS I am having difficulty discerning what rotary A/B switch I can use to make all these things happen at once. It needs to be a 2 position (A/B) type switch, and switch the 120V relay, the phono section, the tube preamp-amp section, and the SS (XLR) preamp-amp section. Thanks, Craig

  10. I get the argument that bias is part of the experience, but that doesn't mean it is always a "good thing", or that it is beneficial to the audio community as a whole. The fundamental audiophile is supposed to be enjoying the auditory experience (at least that's the boring strict definition that I understand). To the extent that non-auditory factors affect perception, they are distracting from the goal of the pure audiophile. It's certainly the reality that nobody is purely an audiophile, but I would argue that it is the auditory factors in this hobby that are the common areas of interest, and what ultimately holds the community together. There is a lot of enjoyment when people experience the same things and can share in that listening. And as we can see, there is discord when people don't experience the same thing. To that extent, I think there is benefit in striving to understand the auditory phenomena because it is something that should be universally experienced - whether it be a positive or negative experience is totally irrelevant. The discussion is far more interesting when two people hear the same thing and one prefers the sound, while the other dislikes it. It's a completely different level when someone claims to hear something that doesn't exist as a purely auditory event (like the analogy I provided to show expectation bias). I don't see how it hinders the subjectivist or objectivist to be aware of their own and other's biases. If anything, I think it would be empowering to put things into perspective. I think to put it another way.....there are some striving towards the fake image of "audiophile" as one who has a very discrete acumen for the different flavors available. That's just outright annoying and ruins the "audiophile image" and therefore affects the identity of those that are truly audiophiles. Then you have the honest subjectivists (like yourself) that aren't chasing a fake image, but unfairly get lumped into the same category. With the descriptions of "subjectivist" and "objectivist" getting used in this thread, I think I fundamentally don't fit into either. I'd much rather identify myself as a critically minded audiophile - interested in nothing but the auditory experience, which takes a conscious effort to not be distracted by non-auditory factors.

  11. I have been living with my heresy III for a week and Im quite happy with them excellent midrange etc, I am waiting for a pair of steel speaker stands to arrive but have them on breeze blocks at the moment about 17 inch high,I found that when they were sat on the floor on there slanted plinths that the sound had no real soundstage but was much better off the floor there is a loss of some bass but not to much,is it true that the heresy mid and treble give more output(louder) than the bass to sound more balanced on the floor ? as there dose seam a bit more presence on the mid and treble areas while on stands,do any of you guys use them on stands ? thanks

  14. " and switch the 120V relay, the phono section, the tube preamp-amp section" I was designing this in my head till I got to this part, now son your scare the heII out of me. a/c near any pre input send shivers up me spine! Good thinking. The relay should be in a separate box! I can use low power inside the unit just for the relay voltage. 9V should do nicely. Maybe I can make a couple nice jewel lights to indicate source while I'm at it.

  15. I don't think there is a linear switch that can do this, so we're talking rotary. Look inside about any vintage receiver or tuner and you will see switches which perform many functions. Here is an example of such a switch:

  18. rotary or toggle... schubeingapaininthearse . that seems like a lot of functions to happen with a flip of a switch... unless you are planning on building a box that has several switches on it.

  19. Me too!! In fact, I liked it so much that I felt inclined to add him to my friends list... Sorry about the thread crap Joe. Due to the extreme popularity of my dogs and Beach Babes Avatar from several of the higher ranking folks here, I am retiring this one. I have enjoyed it for well over a year. I will however continue to shuffle out more "fetching" images much more often for all to enjoy. Cheers to all and good luck getting your box, manual and shipping fee Joe Edit: My "Thread crap" comment was for my extended thank you to Rick, Dtel and a few others for their kind words. I was NOT calling them out for their comments in this thread, but my sentence structure didn't make that obvious. Once again, Good luck Joe !

  29. Directly from Klipsch. Call the 800 number and select parts. They run about $170.00 a pair or so. Or you can order the entire driver and diaphragm for about $10.00 more a pair and have an extra set of drivers. These are the K53-TI drivers which are used in the cornwall III.

  31. I understand....What I don't understand is adding external amplification to an AVR when one gets trim levels in the -5 to - 8 range already. You mean like, what I am doing, lol. I have stated before that I like amps and may one day go with a separate preamp. How beneficial it is for me to run amps on top of a strong avr is very debatable. The system looks good with the power amp and, it is alway fashionable to look good, he he. Beside, it is the audiophile thing to do.

  37. I am constantly bewildered by those who have this concept of "winning" or "losing" an award. They aren't won, by definition they are awarded. You can't lose what you can't win. OK. She tops my most disliked female singer because of her totally classless response to not being awarded the award that Carrie Underwood was awarded Better? Ron. It was fine the first time. I was talking about Faith Hill and the rest. I'm right with ya dude.

And unless you've visited the land of BS, you'll never know just perfect, how deserving and worthy he is of the wonderful finger painting. I'm out of here too.

  43. Hi...the sound with the K77 will also improve when you position them in the vertical as they were originally intended by EV. They begin to drop away at about 15k where as Crites goes to 20k (most of us can't hear that far up) and certainly the tone and timbre of the K77 is in your face as opposed to the smoothness of Crites, the Eminence driver is not a bad one.

  45. I have LSI splits with crites tweeters and crossovers. Very pleased with the way they sound off a 1950s Lafayette stereo 236a integrated tube amp. Have no experience with the other crossovers or horn mods. My only wish is they would go deeper, but moving myself around the room I can hear where they do play the notes missing from my seating position. Plan on doing the port mod next then playing around with room treatments.
