  15. There is a lot to agree with in Marty's. (Thebes') post, and I relate to Russ as well. Read my rant on capacitors in the Technical Section, where I basically say you have to learn how to eat the meat and spit out the bones when it comes to this stuff. Ridiculous claims from The marketing folks and over the top reviews that don't make any sense can, and should be tossed out. You could still be left with a good product, so you find a cut sheet on the product with the simple specifications and you try to apply some common sense. I use the Supra Classic 1.6. It's a little over a buck a foot and I use it for everything. It's the closet thing I could find to the original wire used by the factory before they went to Monster Cable, which is now off-gassing and turning the wire into something that looks like it needs to be called into the EPA. http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/speaker-wire/supra-classic-1.6/bulk-cable-per-foot-15-awg/

  23. Minor thread drift; A question for the Cable Guy. Is solid 2-wire telephone cable any good for speakers? +++ A member of another forum got p.o.'d at the cheap cable he had been getting, so he wrote to all the cable manufacturers in the US and asked for samples. He said THIS is the best wire he heard. http://www.knukonceptz.com/home-theater/speaker-wire/kord-speaker-wire/ I have been using KnuKonceptz 10 and 12 for over 2 years, I think it's excellent. A few reasons why I think that....it's easy to work with, looks pretty good, very good quality construction, and it's priced well. Shipping is fast, the website is fairly decent and customer service is good. Overall, lots of positives. JMHO

Another 2270! Even if it was only a 10 minute round trip I might loose out. Not a lot of room downstairs and the Wife was offering to help me move more speakers in !!! 4 La Scala's Maybe she's sick and I should take advantage while I can? Hell yes! Have to tell self Too much for shipping, she still sleeps with that gun!

  26. I have the 4520 and it set my La Scalas in my old room to -12 too. My current setup is also -12 with the subs at -5, and -6. I was told it makes no difference as it is calibrating them for reference level... Which makes sense. The only thing is the Denon is maxed at -12 so if your speakers are way too efficient, I think it could mess up the EQ settings, but I am not an expert so I don't know for sure.

  27. Sets the subs at -7. Amp is gone. Gotta figure something out. Accesories 4 less had 4520 for 1299. Now down to 1099. Crazy cheap.

  28. Yes and he owns the rarest pair of Jubes as well as a warehouse full of Klipsch speakers. Amazing. He says there's too many tire kickers out there and not enough real buyers. Just my 2 cents. i have emailed spencer chao back and forth a hundred times and I haven't even bought one thing from him. I asked him one time about prices and ten months later asked a second time and he even remembered me. If you're serious about buying something, a hundred emails shouldn't be necessary before putting down money, unless you are creating a custom product for your needs. This is one thing that tips a salesperson off that someone is likely a "tire-kicker" and not really serious about making a buying decision, and if I were the salesperson I'd stop returning emails after the fourth or fifth one. Buying something involves risk, and both parties need to realize and accept that. It's up to the buyer to do their research* beforehand and make as few requests of the dealer or seller as possible. For the part of the seller, it sounds like they may need to add qualifying questions to their repertoire early in the selling process. This is one of the well-known Seven Steps of Selling. *Forums like this are a great resource for doing research. This is not to say that research is unnecessary or annoying, just that it is not the job of the salesperson to answer product questions one after the other, ad infinitum, in hopes of making a sale that never comes. Before we moved, we contacted several dealers to inquire about equipment we could inspect, hear and buy near our new location. Only one bothered to answer. He and I exchanged about 5 or 6 emails, perhaps more. He went out of his way, including sending me a wiring diagram he created for a custom component I wanted. When we arrived, he saw us in the parking lot trying to get our car's remote door locker to work. He came out, tools in hand, and fixed it @ no cost. We bought nothing that day, but over the next few years we ended up buying from him two power amps, a preamp, two AV pre-pros, a CD player, a blu-ray/SACD player and a piece of custom equipment that he built for us. He also repaired one of our older pieces of equipment. He is now a good friend, and we are continuing to exchange emails, on many subjects, and he knows that next time we are in the market for something, he will be the first person we consult.

  32. Welcome to the Forum Mario. You'll like it here. Please think of speaker wire as a simple connector between two pieces. That's what you want. Something that deliberately changes the signal , like most fancy wire, defeats the purpose of having good speakers and a good source and a good preamp, amp or integrated. Also think of the hundreds of feet of other wire contained within things like speakers themselves, transformers etc. and it becomes plain silly to think that a very few feet of wire is what you need to make you system sound better. It can't and it won't. It may change the sound, but that's not the purpose or reason for cables. Monopirce offers good quality copper speaker wire at a very reasonable price. I do believe they ship worldwide. Save your money for things that will improve the sound, not simply change it.

  35. I guess I don't know for a fact but I thought you could buy just the horns from klipsch. Did you call them yet? No I guess that would be the best place to start. Last time I tried emailing them about home audio horns they didn't seem interested in selling them. i told you to call Klipsch. Gotta get to the cinema department. I've talked to a few guys in there all willing to sell me either a 510 or 402 horn. The cinema stuff is kind of hard to track down prices for. But I mean come on guys we all are on this forum a lot. It's not that hard to send a couple emails back and forth with cinequip. Then boom they are on the way to you. And beek you have to remember that Klipsch is trying to cater to all audiences and face it, the audiophile breed is slimming down. People want small stuff, mp3 stuff, headphones. Don't get me wrong I feel the exact same way about the new reference line and they are coming out with something in between current reference stuff and palladium. Although I'm betting pricing will be a bit stout for my Wallet. I will stick with my cinema gear to me that's where it at if you have a dedicated space. Living room, no freakin way! And I immediately worry about if they try to start making cinema gear for home that stuff will be compromised for sound and made prettier, then whammy! Price doubles. If I were anyone on here and thinking the cinema gear might be for me? I'd buy now before Klipsch changes stuff around. Large, "unattractive" black painted cabinets and fantastic drivers all equal great sound in a very affordable package. Just gotta have space for them. Do like ref did and put grills on them, build a top hat for them and grill that up too. Then they are nice enough for a living room if you don't mind small refrigerators.

  36. love hearing this one. let me share a similar story. when i was younger (13-14) me and my dad every weekend would go into kansas city to this huge fish store. we both used to like fish very much. and i was startin to fall in love with stereos at that time. so after we left there he would always take me over to best buy and circuit city. i would cruise through all the demo rooms. one had yamaha which i never cared for, one had bose, which i thought sounded cool then. cool for their size anyway. then i would go down to my favorite room, the jbl and cerwin vega room. loved these too cause they were capable of some serious volumes. then we would cruise over to circuit city and hear higher end polk stuff, velodyne, and infinity. my first setup came from circuit city and was some infinity bookshelves and a velodyne sub. fast forward a couple years, and i had my license. went without my dad much more frequently just to window shop. my cousin had told me that they were building this new store down the street soon. about 10 months went by and ultimate electronics had their grand opening. i was probably the third person in the door. had to go early so i went solo that day. well the first thing i was offered coffee, water, or orange juice as soon as i walked in. LOL i immediately fell in love. after i received my OJ, i started making my rounds. first room was a very modern bose equipped room. it sounded great (so i thought). the coolest things was all the automation in this room. move on to the next room and i don't remember the speaker brand in there, but i do remember they had all the carver/sunifre sub models in this room. WOW i hadn't heard anything play that deep before. and i thought it was cool that the sub could pound so hard it would walk around in the corner all by itself. next was the massive wall of receivers. i have been looking at price tags the whole time and am realizing that this place is for the rich and famous haha. so i keep browsing and then comes to what looks like the flagship room. walk in and sit down. lord of the rings was playing. never seen it before. never seen a projector before in a home setting. it was the top of the line sony projector at that time, in fact i think they guy said it was like 8,000$. anyways he gives me a proper demo, and just cranked away. i then started asking about about all the speakers. he tells me what they were. klipsch rf-7 home theater. i was blown away. couldn't believe the movie theater sound that this room had going on in there. then he showed me the rsw-15 up front. i didn't even know they made 15" home subs. lol could not believe this thing. well once again i start pricing this setup in my head, and figure eh walk away, you will never be able to afford that stuff. so i guess the coolest part of the story is that plissken is like the third guy on here i have heard mention seeing the same movie on the same setup on a different location of the same chain store. what i am most excited about is the setup i have now i didn't pay even close to what that stuff costs 10-12 years ago and it would absolutely put that setup to shame! couldn't have ever done it without this forum to help me gain the confidence to buy good quality used products.

  44. And yet another day begins of my "John Lennon" protest, (Day three of coffee/duggans, movies, sleep). Silent protest/waiting for the bank to kick down a piece of the nest egg, then it's party time, well as soon as I pay OFF all the bills. Pulled enough out to give the wife her gambling binge (three days should do it), and her/me a little speaker upgrade funding.
