  1. LOL! This whole thread is fabulous! I added the Craigslist link (wvu80) "I have added your photos." (Youthman) "Looks like you have a two pairs of F-3 tower speakers, a C-3 center speaker, and a Sub12 subwoofer." (willand added the ID of the equipment) All we need now is Schu, to tell him it's overpriced...

  2. Lady friend bought a French press and some Tanzinia Peaberry coffee. Not bad. A little cumbersome but tasty! The trip to the mountains was fun and the weather just right. Critter did okay with the sitter....chewed up my feather duster that I use on my gear. Heading to the beach for a couple of hours....late October and still beach weather! Cheers Gents

  3. I have received several Pm's wishing me well during this difficult time, I THANK YOU . I am glad now that no one jumped on these, for it was to much a hasty & emotional driven decision . If my wife passes soon the Jubs & good music will be more needed then ever before. I hope you will all forgive me if I cancel this sale for now, at least until I better think this out & see what develops. . Coyee said -"I apologize if my edit (regarding melodic voice of your wife) was out of bounds. Obviously I know nothing of what might be going on." No problem at all Coytee, I always enjoy your humor, it saves a lot of us here from running off the tracks... Latter my friends.

  4. Of all the good things Mark lists here, the one which naturally grabbed my attention was the Belgian waffle maker. Why? 'Cause I'm still on a weight loss deal and can't have Belgian Waffles!! Damn. Oh well, mornin' from sunny Colorado.

  5. 55 wake up temp. Cool temps and Major Dickinsons Blend w/Duggans = New Belgian Waffle maker came in yesterday, been wanting one of these for 30+years. Woke up in time to get the trash to the curb. Satellite R&D in progress fabricating missing parts as needed. 6. After this post I'll let it be......Michelle passed Oct. 1st and after everything she went through it was of course emotional and yet a relief to know she is at peace and I feel truley blessed that she is in a better place and some day I know I will be with her again...... Cornman....will the pain of loss go away? I suppose eventually, however I have 34 years of love and wonderful memories and the support of friends to pull me through this loss. I was lucky the last 3 years to spend every day 24/7 with my wife.....and to the end we both knew how strong our love was, and that is what you hold on to during this time when emotions are so raw..... God bless you and your family.....your lovely wife is in everyone's prayers.

  7. The more I read the reviews from everybody, the more I wish I could have gone. I am feeling better from an ear infection/vestibular nerve problem. Maybe I'll get to audition some heritage Klipsch soon.

  8. That's an awesome system. As mentioned, give Mike a call. You might find that the 2k difference just got less. I started my audio journey with a Velodyne CT-100 (10" with 100 watt amp). Then moved up to a Velodyne F-1500 (15" with 250 watt amp), then to a Velodyne HGS15 (15" with 1250 RMS / 3000 Peak), then I added a second Velodyne HGS15. Later I picked up a Klipsch RSW-15 (15" Active, 15" Passive with 650 watt RMS / 2400 Peak amp) and found that it performed as well as my Dual Velodyne HGS15's. As you can see, once I went to a 15", I never had a desire to own anything smaller. I'm 80% Movies / 20% Music. I even did a comparison with Dual RT-10d vs a Single RSW-15 and the RSW-15 won. I enjoyed the RSW-15 so much, I bought a second one just for fun.

  11. I haven't mentioned it before but I actually have two of the new 15's. In the process of installing them right now. First impressions? The good: They will obviously be more musical and active at low volumes than my 18's just by thumping on the cones. My 18's sound like you're just tapping on a desktop due to being so stiff. These things, tap on them and you hear a nice THUMP. Huge difference. Also the cones look killer, it's like RF-7ii's on steroids. They really look nice. The port has got to be pretty commanding. They are really friggin heavy for what they are. I've seen several all-in-one solution subs and the sheer heft of this thing easily surpasses the ones I've seen. Sheer weight on the spec sheet aside, I know what an 18" UltiMax in a heavily braced 13-ply Baltic birch cabinet feels like, because I built two of the things then had to move them into my theater room. These are every bit as awkward. The not so good: They look pretty bad next to RF-7ii's. Even if they sound good up front I'm moving them somewhere else. Really wish the top of the line sub model could have been covered in real wood veneer to match the gorgeous RF-7ii's. Otherwise they seem to be really promising for what they are. I don't expect them to "move the foundation" or anything but to complement a bigger Reference II setup, especially for music, especially at lower (normal) volumes, they are probably great. ok, breaks over, install time.

  12. Even running my RF 7's at 13 ft. from the main listening position in a 5300 cu ft. space, I have never used over 100 watts in a movie and speakers set to large. Music does not even come close on the power usage as movie.

  13. ANTIQUE SOUND LAB Wave 8 $400. 2 tube mono-block amps. I bought these from a friend have went about completing a full reconditioning of these wonderful amps. Buy without concern, fully bench tested, and re-tubed. Go to ampsandsound.com to see more of my work. . . its bar none. I bought for $300 for the pair and have $200 in upgrades/reconditioning. Each amp had the coupling caps replaced with tight tolerance 5% orange drops. The traditional DC filtering was done with use of a simple 3watt resistor. I opted to include a 4henery choke dropping the DC ripple to nil and the noise floor further improved. The pair was run-in with Freq sweeps and test music before complete bench testing. All voltages are correct and the S/N is considerable lower. The amps include 4 complete sets of US good pulls. I ordered new NOS tubes and have installed. The amps are just right. . . incredibly musical. They are spec'd at 8watts. With the increases to D/C filtering and new tubes. . . I was able to get 10watts on my meters. The Wave 8 clearly provides the tube sound, for a pittance of the price of most good tube or solid-state amplifiers. They perform with a joyous snap and pop. More like the exuberance of college football than the smooth professionalism of the NFL. Yet, the low cost and low powered tube amps were wonderful to hear. They have a whiff of the rare air of magical audio combinations. Indeed, I found myself returning again and again to rock recordings and playing the Waves loud. Output power: 8 Watts Frequency response at 1 Watt: 20 Hz-20 Khz. +/- 1 dB Frequency Response at 8 Watts: 30 Hz-18 kHz. +/- 1 dB Distortion at 1 Watt: < 1% Distortion at 8 Watts: <5% Input impedance: 100k Ohm Input sensitivity: 500 mVolt Output impedance: 8 Ohms Dimensions: 6" W X 12" D X 5.5" Weight: 7 lbs Justin 323-868-9722

  17. Actually that's not out of the question. I have a trailer and 2 extra MWM bins on the enclosed porch. I can easily steal the tops off the ones upstairs. Plus I would love to hear them in a larger space

  20. Doc, are you using the HF200 in a 2, or 3 way configuration? I guess 4 or 5 is possible too, but you know what I mean. It's a 3 way, and like I said sounds fanfreakintastic!

  21. So far the shakers I am thinking of as a separate part of the uLF for the HT. The feel is a definetly different tweak to the HT. Since they are a voice coil, xo them over low will keep the voic and low bass out so that you don't hear them when you should not.

  27. Wiring will vary depending on the type and number of shakers used. I used a combination of series-paralled to dasiy chain 4 shakers in the couch. The skaker extend down to around 12 Hz and become very strong above 15 Hz. Parts Express does not list a FR for the Aura shakers but, as I suspected there was no reason that they could not get into the ULF range. I have the amp gain at 50 and the shaker set to produce 40Hz and under. Tomorrow I will do some real testing.

  28. Justin wish you could've joined! I really enjoyed the stereo 15. I know I was glad, and I'm pretty sure everyone else was too, that Jim brought it along, I wasn't sure if it would make the trip. I'll shoot you a pm at some point I had a thought i'd like to shoot past you. Im thinking theres another gathering in the future and this time Im thinking of another venue that can accommodate more people and gear. be good

  30. Seth is Lemonstring. In the group photo's he the second one in (Flannel looking shirt with red in it) from the right side. The guy on the end is another one of Seth's neighbors (both of whom were really good guys).I guess you can't piss off your neighbors if they are with you. And yes it was a really nice place for a gathering, beautiful listening room ! and a huge kitchen right off of it able to accommodate several large pizza's, several bottles of refreshment's, and several hungry listeners. The house was almost as accommodating as Seth and his wife.

  33. Thought they sounded great, we had them on the floor and up on some chairs. I heard them hooked up to Justin's Stereo 15 amp that Jim brought with (jimjimbo). When we added the Tuba it was like a match from heaven, very impressed with the combination.

  34. Seth, I posted pictures and text in another thread, And a GREAT time was had by all,.....and that's the truth!

  35. Indeed!!! Thanks to everyone that showed up! Really cool group of guys for sure, honestly couldn't have been a nicer group. Jimjimbo brought out the ampandsound stereo 15 and the super Hersey's both ROCKED and sounded so sweet. We played a variety of material through them and everything was right on. Jason str brought the table tuba and frankly Im pretty sure everyone wanted to leave with it. It just completes the sound. The cornwalls and the heresys sound great on there own but the table tuba just took em to 11 if you know what Im saying. Mark brought a, Yamaha stereo amp that just sang with great clarity and precision, as well as some killer source material. Opusk2k9 came and shared what was my favorite piece of the night http://digg.com/video/this-singers-voice-is-giving-us-chills check it out and play it loud. Derrick brought his Yaquin amp and I'm sorry to say we didn't get it wired up before he had to hit the road, so a next time is inevitable. Jimjimbo got some pics so Im sure they'll show up at some point in these parts. My ears are satiated and my bellies full so I'm going to hit it. Nicely done Gents and I'll see you at the next Chicagoland Klipsch gathering hopefully soon. Good times. Cheers Lemonstring

  39. I would focus my money on the front of the cabin, this is where you want your soundstage. Maybe some midbass drivers in the rear. Or if the rear is important to you get matching speakers for the rear. Don't buy without listening first, big $$$ does not always relate to better sound. A 10" driver in a Auto Tuba would be an ideal low distortion sub to fill in the low notes.
    1 point
  40. Not sure what you mean by "space to fill"... In terms of fitting equipment in there, cars are always easier to get lots of subs in compared to an extended cab truck. There's hardly anywhere to put anything in a truck unless you give up your bed, and what's the point of having a truck if you do that? In terms of filling the interior with sound, strangely, larger vehicles are often louder even with the same equipment. Something about the 1/4 wavelength rule and stuff. We used to put SPL microphones under the dash by the floorboard as far away from the subs as possible, which is where it was the loudest. when I had one of my ford extended cabs I used a bazooka sub between the passenger seat and the rear seat. didn't use too much room, and the bass was okey dokey. Had one of those back in the day, sold it within a week. My first experiment was well before subwoofers were mainstream, threw a 15" woofer on the trunk deck along with 4 6x9s on my 73 Delta 88. The sun ate the paper cone within a month.

  43. With all the storms that came through the Chicagoland area lately one of my friends lost his Denon receiver, im not sure of the model but it sounded decent for what it was. Anyway i offered one of my receivers that is no longer used but he wanted something new and having recently lost his full time job and working only part time was on a tight budget and picked up the Onkyo TX-8020. Yesterday i went over and swapped out the old Denon for the new Onkyo and we took it on a test drive using his Walnut Klipsch Forte's expecting nothing spectacular and was dissapointed with the results. No clarity, subpar dynamics, sloppy bass, screechy mids with grating highs. I have heard my share of budget receivers, even i purchased a new $50 Sherwood on closeout from Circuit City for basement use a while back and think even the jippo model Sherwood was a step up from Onkyo's budget buy. My advice, if you value your music save some cash and get yourself something decent. Empty pockets ? Buy used.
