  1. For Paul Wilbur Klipsch, the Legend, and the few hours he spent with me that formed my entire outlook on what audio reproduction is all about. For his ongoing legacy in the great company he founded, their respect for his vision, and whose dedication to the community is reflected here in these unique forums. For the company that acquired his assets, and the wisdom they have so far shown in recognizing that Paul still runs the company and needs no help. For the wonderful people here, many of whom have become much more that "virtual" friends over the years. For Amy, and the many years she tended this flock with the wisdom of Solomon, and for Chad who carries on with equal skill after a tough act to follow. For my fellow moderators, especially the new ones thrown into the breach and striving to do the right thing; all volunteers and all working hard to make this a place of flourishing ideas, mutual support, and often doing so with little thanks. And for the gift of music, perhaps the first language, the language of peace and love, and humankinds greatest achievement. Dave

  4. Morning Gang, it's Sunday i believe. Looking at my cameras a couple hours ago i noticed the street at the end of my backyard driveway was wet. Opening the rear gate i see water bubbling out of the cracks in the sidewalk, street, and neighbors lawn! Yeah baby we have a broken water pipe! im thinkin at least 8" to 12" main I called them two hours ago, nobody showing up yet. So i figured i dont want anybody falling into a sinkhole, so i placed my target shooting road sign out there. I done my civic duty, time for a BM. Pics to follow......

  5. Welcome to the forums. When I had my Yamaha RX-V1800 (130 x 7) receiver, I tried bi-amping using the internal bi-amp feature in the receiver and I did not hear any difference whatsoever. That receiver will power the R-28F with no problem. The R-28F have a sensitivity rating of 98db. This means they placed a microphone 1 meter from the speaker and fed it 1 watt of power and it hit 98db on a db meter. It takes twice the power to get a 3db gain in volume. 1 watt = 98db 2 watt = 102db 4 watt = 106db 8 watt = 109db 16 watt = 112db 32 watt = 115db 64 watt = 118db 128 watt = 121db 256 watt = 123db So with 90 watts of power, you can hit over 118db with the R-28F speakers. Your ears will give out before the speakers do. As you can see, the higher up you go in wattage, it takes a TON more wattage to be able to hear a difference.

  7. And if NEVRL8 opts for original RF surrounds and center, he should really stick to older RF floorstanding models(RF-3, RF-5, RF-25, RF-35) for a closer timbre match. I think it would be worth it to try and ship these $375 RF-5s! https://denver.craigslist.org/ele/4772534076.html Hell, I would help him do it if the seller isn't willing.

  9. the icon v and w series in my opinion were a much better speaker than and of the k series icons. Which to me is exactly what the new reference series is the are reprinted kf-28, kc-25, and so on and I've heard at others houses and owned the kf-28 and while they were OK, they were a mess when pushed very hard. And when I say hard maybe -10. Don't even bother to try for anything near reference. They just start to distort. While you feel they may be a deal at 500$, I feel like spending 500 on anything that is sub par is a waste when you could spend 750 on a pair of rf-62ii and get a much superior speaker. As well as when you grab a center you have the opportunity to buy a matching center that is a real center. The rc-62 I had compared to the kc-25 is just a joke. Sorry but that's the truth.

  10. Depends. There were RF-5's in Minneapolis last week for $500...it'd shame the everliving poo out of the R-28's. I'd even put the RF-62's over the R-28's personally. You seem to not be a fan of the R-28F. I take it you have heard a pair set up properly, and directly compared these other models you are recommending in their place? It is okay if you don't like them, I am just surprised you feel that strongly against them. I feel they are a fantastic value for their price. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were a tiny bit better than the synergy line. But lets make sure we call a spade a spade. The R-28 is an f-30 painted black and copper. And then re branded a reference speaker.

  11. We have done Atmos testing at Klipsch, and the results are quite impressive. I have seen as an option "front height" listed in 2 Onkyo models. I would gather this means you can keep your "PLIIz" height channel speakers where they are. From my experience this would likely be the least desired option as the direct axis information could give away their location. I have not experimented with those locations, so I wouldn't rule it out. I can say both IC, and upfiring options do indeed work.

  20. I also have a unique room shape and run two subs--One RSW-12 on a sidewall in front of an unused fireplace that's about 4 1/2 feet from the MLP and an RSW-15 in the rear corner facing towards the MLP and about 5 1/2 feet away and in our 2,000 cu ft room blends seamlessly with my speakers being crossed over at 60 Hz from most of them... Fwiw, when we only had the single one in the rear it did seem to localize the bass and when I added the second it became nirvana. I also found prior to running/having Audyssey I would listen to my bass quite a bit hotter and since then I notice that it seems tighter and the sound coming out of my other speakers cleaner. EDIT: I was typing as Pro Cinema Head was posting and agree totally about level-matching both subs to the MLP. Fwiw, my Denon AVR-4311ci does that with Audyssey.

  21. I have 1 in front and 1 behind me and they shake the room with no issues. On both setups, 1 with Audyssey and 1 with YPAO. The one in the family room is set up so they are facing each other, and the one in living room had to have them face different angles for sound. Are you running them stereo, rear and front, or mono?

  24. How does this look? I can make a cutsheet up... It's a night stand sub I designed with a recess for a grill and a rear slotted port. Tuned to 22Hz, and should yield 21Hz at -3db. Keep in mind you still need an amplifier also... PS: The footprint is 25" wide. The top is a bit wider. I don't know why that dimension didn't show up.

  26. I've been texting an individual today regarding an RSW-10d he has for sale. The conversation turned out to be pretty humorous so I felt I had to share with you guys. Me: Hi, how much are you asking for your Klipsch sub? Seller: If you click on more ads by this user it will bring up all 40 of my ads including the ad for the subwoofer Me: Gotcha Seller: This way you can see better pictures of it but I'm asking 450 its like brand new I have two of them Me: Thx. I have dual RSW15 in my HT but am always looking for good deals on Klipsch speakers. Best wishes with your sale Seller: They don't make an RSW 15. And - 450 fair price they sell for 2000 mine is barely used and immaculate condition Me: Sure they do. These are mine Me: http://www.klipsch.com/rsw-15-subwoofer/details Seller: Those are over 13 years old and that's an analog speaker - a digital speaker major major difference you can't compare the two I have an analog but it's a 2013 model they don't make those anymore for a reason my speaker will blow both of those away together Me: Oh wow. You are welcome to bring yours over for a showdown lol Seller: No thanks but if you're interested in getting a digital speaker where one cabinet give you as much base as both of yours let me know. I'm not desperate I'm selling it for a fair price Me: You seriously believe what you are saying don't you? Too funny. BTW it's spelled bass. I've owned dual Velodyne HGS15's as well as dual Klipsch RT-10d (Digital) and one of my RSW-15 provided more output than either of those pair of subs. Which is precisely why I sold them and kept the RSW-15's. Ask anyone in the Klipsch forum and they will tell you the RSW-15 is the best sub Klipsch has ever made. Me: Forgot to mention I had a Velodyne DD12 (another "Digital" sub) and it could not even come close to a single RSW-15. Seller: Yes but this is the RSW 10d which out performs all of them the Velodyne your RT 10 D Me: This is the funniest conversation I've had in a long time. You clearly have never heard an RSW-15 have you? Seller: I used to own audio advisors in Palm Beach County I had thousands of them at my disposal its garbage Me: I'm sorry, I didn't realize I was speaking to an expert. Can you explain to me then through physics exactly how your RSW10d with a single 10" woofer + a 10" passive radiator will out perform my two RSW-15's which has two 15" active + two 15" passive subs? Seller: Research my friend...take care.... I'll sell it to someone who can afford it, so body with knowledge. (I then sent him these photos) Seller: Nice...but u wish u could afford that....I have 20 subs in my media room...Go away! Crackhead Me: I'm a moderator in the Klipsch forums with hundreds of posts showing various Klipsch speakers I've owned over the years. Me: It's just hard to take you seriously since "the expert" told me earlier that klipsch did not even make an RSW15 and later you say you had thousands of them at your disposal. LOL. This truly has been an entertaining conversation. I needed a good laugh. Me: In all seriousness, I do wish you the best with your sale. A good friend of mine in Kissimmee has an RSW10d. I've heard it several times and although It's a good sub, it just cannot come close to the performance of the RSW15. No response from the seller after that.....LOL Honestly, I couldn't make this up if I wanted to.

  28. I listen almost exclusively to multichannel mode with the rear channels trimmed back several levels. Sometimes when it is just me listening I'll run two channel direct but multi channel just sounds so much more enveloping to me, especially when I'm moving around or if I have company over and the volume is toned down and serving more as background music.

  29. How good are the RF 28's, they are similar to the Icon VF 36 speakers I had I still own my VF 35's and and have not felt a need to upgrade them to Referce RF 3 or RF 5's. I have spent money on a lot of othe gear, so fund have nothing to do with me keeping them.

  30. I did get an opportunity to finally, yes. I'm not saying they're a bad value, but it's hard to compare a speaker such as the RF-5 - a speaker that has a sort of legend associated with it in it's own right to the R-28's. Especially when the going rate for the 5's is the same as the Black Friday price.

  32. That driver needs a big enclosure to get those frequencies. The best you will get with a ported 2 cu ft box like this one from parts-express: https://www.parts-express.com/knock-down-mdf-20-cu-ft-subwoofer-cabinet-for-dayton-audio-12-ultimax-subwoofer--300-7081 is about 30Hz@-3db as you stated in the original post. Build a 5 cu ft box, and you can get to 20Hz at -3db with two 2" round ports about 5" long. (Tuned to 23Hz, and capable of about 110db without corner loading) The amp you would need is about 250-300 watts @ 4ohm.

  33. yes please do! You will get a much better speaker for the samePrice or maybe even less than what beat buy will sell you. Or acoustic sound design. Call them both. CALL. That's the only way to get the best quotes.

  34. Put the speakers behind a screen and have a full width 100" or so screen. He's got enough depth to make it happen. Surely he could get better than a 72" screen with 24' of depth. I'm sitting here wishing I had a little more than 20' myself. Not if he uses the long wall for the screen as I believe he should. There are many reasons for this, for instance imaging and room for seating.

  37. In my case, I already have two extra K69's laying around. Interestingly, if I could get them with a K1133, it might pique my intrigue. (so I could later swap the 1133 to the K402 and put my K69's on the 510 for a traditional 3-way setup. I don't much care to get yet another K69.

  43. Marshall wins in the usual way, the defense grabs a 4th quarter fumble recover in the endzone for a touchdown, to win by 5! I bet Mustang Guy was screaming at his TV, all the while staving off a heart attack. The game was finally decided late in the 4th when UAB failed on their third straight 4th and 1, the last one on Marshall's 10 yard line with a minute left. +++ I give ESPN TV a lot of credit. They only highlight the Top 25 teams, a ranking which the College Football Playoff committee has not given to Marshall, so ESPN has a special category in addition to the "Top 25" , called "Unbeatens" so they can talk about Marshall. Two thumbs up ESPN. :emotion-21:

  44. My quick "Big Horn" story: Looking through the CL in norcal one day last Feb, saw a guy selling off componets of a theater in Monterey, so i ask the wife, Hey how-a-bout a weekend on the coast? Of course being adapted to speaker runs for the last two years, she has NO problem with this. Getting to the Theater, we are escourted behind the screen by an old retired audio engineer (Theater Owner) and shown the sound system that was updated 10 years before. JBLs, full theater set up, most everything was spoken for, Stacks, huge horns, wall mount 7.1s, so the guy is telling me what IS available, witch is really nothing left, i told him a couple of those huge JBL horns would have been nice, he then says i have a warehouse, would you like to see it? We met at his storage site a little later, he opens the place up and ask me what do i want, i look at the wife and say, "All of it". Three more trips to the coast and i had it all, what the hell to do with it i soon found out, NOTHING! Sold a few on the Forum(s), delivered most, donated a few, and gave a few away, and as of today i dont have one piece of that Theater. it was educational and a fun venture, lost money on everything, but hey no biggie, i was for a short time the NorCal King of JBL horns for a month.

  49. There is a way to reduce the noise of tinnitus for a little while. The following explanation does not use medical terms, but does convey the concept. Tinnitus is the brain's reaction to hearing loss in a certain part of the audio spectrum, typically in the higher frequencies. What happens is that the brain perceives a lack of sound in that range, so it "turns up the gain" to try to compensate. The spurious sound that tinnitus sufferers hear is kind of like amplifier noise when you switch to a source with no output (no record or CD on/in the player, player not turned on, etc.) and turn the volume all the way up to hear if ANY sound is coming from that source. The solution is to provide your ears with some sound in that range. You can do this with a white noise generator, or just a bedside radio tuned between stations to provide that static hiss. It doesn't have to be at high volume, either. Set the radio playing at a volume that lets you get to sleep, and go to sleep. After a few days, the brain will think your hearing has returned, and will "turn down the gain" to more normal levels, and the tinnitus noise will be reduced. The effect can last for a week or more. This is not a permanent fix, but it can give you relief for a while.
