  1. Happy Tuesday all. Not a lot on tap except pursuit of a cd player upgrade. Got 3 defective Marantz units (cd6005) in a row from an online dealer and will likely go back to my favorite brick and mortar store. Really like the Marantz house sound but might look at Cambridge given the quality issues I've experienced. My goal is to upgrade the cd in our 2 ch system and put the old cd5003 into a system I'm putting together in my better half's "girl cave". There's a lesson here for me. My life is really good if this is the biggest problem I face today!! Cheers to all.

  2. After two weeks of Atkins I have lost 3 pounds and recently have had a craving for pancakes (thanks Joe) or a pecan waffle. So this morning I stopped by local breakfast place and had a pecan waffle with bacon and coffee. Now feel like a slug as all those carbs and sugar take hold Jake was not his perky self yesterday but seems some better this morning. Maybe over did the exercise Sunday. listened to some good music yesterday afternoon. Liking the DAC and Spotify premium. I have made 10 hour plus play list for jazz, blues, folk, country, rock, and easy listening. Dylan has his own playlist. I also borrowed someone's playlist called "Blues Masters" with 150 songs. Now if Earl lets me borrow his rap playlist I'll be set. Cheers Gents

  3. Morning guys, spent most of yesterday being treated like a drug dealer by pain management and the 6 different pharmacies I had to go to in order to fill the meds,(Government involvement has made this fun) All that in the cold rain YUCK , Top that off with the Microwave/Convection oven finally biting the dust (20 plus years old), Its fun figuring out how they built stuff into a motorhome, Damn thing had like 40 screws holding it in there , Today I hope is better at least no appointments to go to, First cup ground and in the cup, boys headed to the bus stop

  14. Thanks guys, no further misunderstandings about OP trolling. I don't like cats in/on my gear AT ALL. The little stinker jumped in, even though she knows she doesn't belong there! :-P She likes to be sneaky, much to my chagrin. She does it for attention mostly.

  17. Great, bet she's happier than you about that. I don't get it, from everything I've read the flu is pretty widespread and this respiratory thing is going around also. I have heard of no one with the flu but many with the respiratory problems, I wonder if it's like a different kind of flu ? It's either that or a pretty potent substitute for it. Nasty Sh**. Like i mentioned, there were some 40 other kids in the hospital at the same time for the same thing. Kids and the elderly seem most vulnerable. Will keep the fingers crossed!! Thanks again.

  18. Hello everyone, As you know my father suddenly passed away last Sunday. Your support and memorial has been wonderful. I listened to the forum playlist last weekend, it was great. Again, thank you. As with any death, funerals are not very cheap. I am trying to help my mother pay off bills that were unexpected. Boxx would want me to offer some of his equipment to the forum members. Edit: I need to clear up a few things because I am listing on this forum. My father had posted on here with the same item. THIS IS THE SAME ITEM. However, I have two of these for sale and can take as many pictures as possible. The only flaw on these units are is that the backlight is out on one side of the unit. It is not totally out, (I assume there is more than one light), however one will need to be replaced. Right now, I am selling one of his Mcintosh MC 602 Power Amps. This unit is in perfect cosmetic and working condition. I do not have the box (right now, it could be in the attic, or manuals). I know he had these and if I find them, I will ship to the buyer when they are found. Right now, the sale is for the unit only. If you have any questions, I will do my best to answer. This unit ways about 155 lbs and will cost about $180.00 to ship USPS/FedEx/UPS. We can decide upon the sale. I am selling this as-is, but it is in immaculate working order. Please message me for questions. Price: $4,500.00 + shipping as stated above I tried to take the best pictures I could, but the reflection on the front will not allow for great results.

  19. I wanted to announce here that Alex and Genevieve are donating half the remaining funds for the flowers to help fund the Klipsch Employee Appreciation Day event Boxx had planned to attend in April. There will be a statement dedicating the event to his memory on a memorial poster that will be on a easel at the lunch site on Friday and then moved to the event site. Genevieve has expressed interest in attending and hopefully Alex will do so as well. The other half will go to an educational cause of the families choosing, as Alex says Boxx was very enthusiastic about those efforts. The flowers were about 300.00. The total to date donated is in excess of 700.00. That's the kind of group this is! I am officially ending that drive, but that isn't to say that if you want to donate over the next few days feel free. I'll be sending them a check early next week. Kind regards to all, Dave

  23. Hi guys. Been absent from the forum for a bit over a week. Still digesting the sad news about Boxx I saw late last night. Very sad and he was only 59 and in his very early retirement years. I hate seeing this happen after years of hard work and success. R.I.P. Boxx Just got caught up here and looks like all is well and glad Aubrey is doing better. Getting tired of battling the frigid weather here and going through a lot of wood, but what would you expect with heating the house with a wood burning stove. Takes a lot of wood to maintain 60+ degrees when it dips down to -9 at night (-35 wind chills). A different climate will be in the cards someday when I retire. Need to feed the stove...stay warm!

  26. I am also late to the news. So many of my thoughts have already been said - but it's obvious that he was a huge part of this community. I am sorry, Alex, for your family's loss, and I am sorry for the forum as well, as we so obviously lost a great member and friend to the community. I also want to thank you, Alex, for making us aware of this. While the news is heartbreaking, we all here appreciate that you thought of us.

  29. Mornin' everybody ... Good news for us .... Aubrey came home from the hospital yesterday much improved. Hoping this is the end of it. There were some 40 other kids at Children's for the same viral respiratory illness. Really bad stuff. Thanks again for all your prayers and encouragement. Yesterday was pretty average ... finally got rid of the Xmas decorations for another year, watched our Broncos stink it up and pampered ourselves with a great rib eye roast. Love to cook. Gotta get some of the cast iron you've been talking about. Back later .....

  33. Of course there are pitfalls to deciding which to have to be shot by. The lawman Matt, or the good citizen Lucas. Would hate to be in the awkward situation afterwards, having to be asking for a misery shot. There is always the good possibility of Lucas shooting you multiple times, as is a sometime style of his. Or usually getting it once from the Marshal. Nice cool day and wishing you well...

  34. I saw this very sad announcement last night after checking in on the forum for the first time since the 3rd. Was up till 1:00 this morning reading through all the posts here and in RTM…30+ pages of kind words for a man we all have great respect for. I did not want to believe it…hoped it was not true and I would awake today with it just being a bad dream. I looked forward to his humorous posts and the daily pics of his music selections with his audio gear in the background. I hoped to meet him someday in person. His legacy here will live on in “Right This Minute”. His unexpected passing is very unfortunate and my thoughts and prayers for continued strength are with Mrs. Croft, Alex, Genevieve and his entire family and friends. I bet Doak is also missing him in a big way. Thank you for including us in this very difficult time and please continue to post when you care to. Boxx will be missed by the entire community. Your presence will help fill his irreplaceable void. R.I.P. Boxx

  35. There are several issues. The following are my opinions, based upon my actual experience. First: Pono playing good high resolution recordings, whether actual Pono files, HDTracks, Linn recordings, etc. sounds better to me than the same recordings in vinyl, CD or mp3 formats. The potential of digital is finally realized. Physical media is going the way of the Dodo. Second: Most of the Pono critics have never actually heard one, or held one in their hands. Recall, Pono is only recently available to the retail market. For the most part, only Kickstarter funders have finally received their long awaited Pono players. Third: There are other ways to play high resolution digital files to obtain similar results, but most other hardware options cost several times the cost of a Pono player and are not as easily portable. The ESS DAC and other high quality Pono components, that are too large to fit in a phone, allow Pono to produce excellent SQ at a relative value. You'd need to spend a lot more to enjoy a significant improvement in SQ. Fourth: Portability is a welcome feature, but not the reason I purchased a Pono player. If I want to listen to music while jogging, my phone, IEMs and mp3s are more than up to the task. I use Pono to play the best available source material into my 2-channel system. The fact that I can easily take it to someone else's 2-channel system is merely a bonus. When travelling, it's convenient to connect Pono to the "aux" input in the car. I rarely listen to Pono using IEMs or cans. Fifth: Mp3s, WAV files, etc., sound better through Pono than my Android phone. I suspect that the quality of the Pono components explains this. Furthermore, the JRiver based Pono Music player is probably a factor. It’s not necessary to buy yet another copy of Respect to enjoy the benefits of Pono. That said, it might be worth it if a high resolution Respect file is available. You will never have heard Respect sound so good. To demonstrate the superiority of Pono to the unwashed, I play Michael Jackon's Billie Jean from his Thriller album. MJ is not my typical choice in music, but the performance and recording are spectacular as a demonstration piece. Using the Pono player, I first play a good mp3 version downloaded from Amazon. Whether through a quality 2-channel rig, car stereo or iPod dock, the results are consistent. People who have no interest in audio hardware agree that it sounds very good. Next I play the Pono version of the same song without changing the volume. Again, the universal reaction is that the second version sounds better. Some can articulate why it sounds better, others just agree it sounds better. The benefits of dynamic range are noticeable. The compressed mp3 sounds dead by comparison. Sixth: Although not yet accomplished, it is my plan to eventually rip cleaned vinyl to high resolution FLAC files that can be preserved on a hard drive, as well as enjoyed using Pono. I have no intention of (again) getting rid of my turntable and vinyl. I will still haunt used record stores, thrift shops, garage sales, etc. looking for recorded treasures that are only available on vinyl. Once preserved digitally to the best possible degree, the vinyl will be stored. The days of flipping vinyl to listen to music are over. Seventh: While I agree that you can’t make gold out of lead, the Pono alchemy will make your good lead sound better than ever. A poorly recorded performance of inferior music will not sound better just because it has been converted to a high resolution digital file. Most here know how bad recordings sound when played on an excellent 2-channel system. Whether using Pono or some other way to play high resolution digital files, the way to preserve and play worthy recordings is to convert them to the best possible digital files. YMMV, but please withhold your criticism of Pono until you have actually heard a Pono player.

  37. Addendum - Clarification from the rep you spoke with today: The rep mentioned to you that these are on backorder and we actually have a bunch on order already, and you could place an order but also suggested to wait until a time closer to when the parts pay arrive. Or, the other suggestion he made was you could order from simplyspeakers.com http://www.simplyspeakers.com/klipsch-replacement-speaker-diaphragm-89486a-faceplate.html As they order from us direct and they may actually have inventory, since we aren't scheduled to have them in until late Feb/early March. I hope this helps. I apologize for any confusion.

  39. The most critical specification of speaker cables is Length. If they are not long enough to reach your speaker from the amplifier, you will not hear anything!
    2 points
  40. It is a myth as far as I'm concerned. The cost of the equipment is irrelevant. I've conducted blind listening tests (using K-horns among others) using all kinds of wire for the connection, and have never found costly cables to be better than anything else. In fact, I'm reminded of one test where the listener actually said that twisted #20 bell wire sounded best to his ears. With very high efficiency speakers, if the runs are relatively short (no more than 6-8 meters), some #16 zip (lamp) cord will be as good as anything else. Just be sure to keep the speaker wires away from the AC power cords to prevent their picking up anything from the powerline. Maynard

  42. Welcome. You shot straight so I'll do the same. 1000 is a low budget for a full 5.1 setup even with your discount. Skip the r-26 line. That reference stuff if the bottom of the line. So with that being said and your exact criteria il recommend the system I recommend the most. Get two rf-62ii one rc-62ii and two rs-42ii or rs-52ii if you can swing your budget a bit more. For subs please look into a Svs PB-1000 or PB-2000. All of this will blow your budget. But I promise you you won't be unhappy at all with it. The other speakers you asked about are only slightly less money for much less performance I'm sure. The sub I told you about will give you the rumble you want. Trust me I have been through a lot of system and had just about all of them. The one I recommended to you is the best bang for your buck in Klipsch lineup

  43. He was being practical, not condescending. The Synergy series is a budget focused speaker. Unless you have a malfunction, you are most likely not going to notice an improvement in your speakers by changing caps in crossovers as you would in something like a Heritage series speaker. Your money would be better spent on moving up the Klipsch speaker line than just focusing on crossover upgrades.

  46. Very nice and good luck with your sale. When you take photos, it ia a good idea to clean all dust, smudges and fingerprints. Audiophiles are a picky bunch, but great pictures will help to drive up the sales price (or at last not cause it to go down). Lots of picks also helps, front back sides, boxes (yes it is true, the box that it came in) and manual. There are other outlets for selling too, such as AudioGON and ebay. Please feel free to ask any questions that you may have regarding selling and you will get many responses. There may be a longtime member nearby who can help you if needed.
