  1. Thanks for checking. I am home and improving. These past few days have brought major improvements in my walking. And yes... my subs are working just fine. Another picture bit the dust today thanks to Youthman telling me about some oldschool bass with Techmaster PEB.

  4. If they didn't turn these performances into circus acts, they'd run the risk of people noticing they really can't sing and have no other significant talent. Tony Bennett is another story. We saw him in Denver the summer before last. He may not have what he used to, but at his age Tony is incredible and far better than 99% of the performers on the current scene.

  5. Windy with sprinkles of rain ushering in a cold front. Maybe in the teens by Saturday. Coffee done but a third cup is in order. Still waiting for the dac to arrive. Painter is putting the second coat on the walls this morning. House is chaos with everything out of place Watched a little of Better Call Saul last night but couldn't get into it. Watched the first half of the Grammys Monday night and it reminded me of how old I'm getting. The junk that passes for music. Think Madonna is getting a little pudgy and needs elaborate props. The no talent Kanye's performance laughable. Tom Jones sounded fine as did Tony Bennett and ELO. Buy your Powerball tickets guys and remember me when you win Cheers Gents

  8. Last spring I bought a PB 12 ultra/2, I have been very pleased with it but have been searching for another to smooth out bass response. I search twice-daily or more my local craigslist, AVS forum, SearchTempest, and of course our humble forum. I've come across a few but always too late or when I don't have the money. Last Thursday I came across a PB 12+/2 outside of Dallas, it was posted 20 min before I called and I wound up being first in line. It's a little bit of a haul from St. Louis but he only wanted $250 for it so it was definitely worth the trip to me. The gentleman called me back later that day and said it had been sold, I was a little surprised because I was the first to call but I guess he didn't want to wait till the next day for me to drive down. Oh well, no reason to cry over spilled milk but I was a little bummed out. Friday I was back to trolling for subs and came across an ad for 2 -PB 12+/2 one for $500 or both for $875. It had been posted seven hours before I responded, it did have a phone number but it was already 11:30 PM. I responded three or four times within five minutes leaving phone numbers and asking him to call me ASAP I didn't care how later how early. The next morning he called me and said only one other person was interested but he lived in California and he did not want to ship preferably. Saturday I spoke with him numerous times but had other plans that I could not break and went there Sunday morning at 8am to pick them up. My wife is not a fan of the piano gloss and I would've liked to have had black oak myself but they were really pretty no scratches pristine looking subs that I couldn't tell he took meticulous care of and barely even had on. He was a very nice gentleman who is only selling them because he just purchased two PB 13 ultras. I did not get to stay as long as I would've liked I needed to be back to pick up my wife for church at 9:30. When I got in the room and sat down he handed me a booklet of papers with all his movies in alphabetical order and told me to pick some for demo. It was coincidental he happen to have an RF-7ii 7.2 system so we had a lot in common. It's always good to be able to talk to someone in person who has this hobby we have, I don't come across to many people like that in my area. He had been to the forum before but never posted or looked around much. I got the subs home and texted Scrappy and asked him some suggestions for placement of these three beasts, I had a similar idea to what he suggested but was glad to confirm it with someone who knows much more than I, I'm a hack at best. I put them in that first position and have not moved them yet, haven't had a whole lot of time to play with them the past two days. I will really be able to some serious listening this weekend. I can tell you this though, I have had a smile on my face from ear to ear since yesterday afternoon!! I'll post some pics and some more impressions when I have more time to listen.

  10. During hurricane Rita we were without standard utilities for 8 days. There were no grocery stores open and we went through our coffee stash pretty quick. A friend called and said he had coffee at this house and we were welcome to it. He had Community coffee with chicory. We made one pot and then went without coffee till we could find some plain coffee when the stores opened back up.

  11. LOL! Not to worry Mark, we all have different backgrounds and training, and we all try to share our little areas of expertise with each other, and we all work together as a team. For instance, Earl is an attorney, so he shares that expertise if he can, free of charge. I am a mental health counselor by training, so after Earl gives you legal advice, I get to ask "and how do you feel about that?"

  12. Morning gang. The Melitta we're drinking isn't all that bad for pre-ground coffee. I ordered 3 lbs of beans from a roaster in Houston yesterday and my wife picked up 2 lbs of Kona beans while she was out. We should be set for a while! The bags they all come in should keep the beans fresh but I really like to use them within 3 to 4 weeks after roasting.

  13. The 2" compression driver (K-64-KN) on the 90x60 tractrix horn in the KV-4... Is the same as the driver on the 90x60 tractrix horn in the CF-2. In the CF-3 and CF-4, the 2" compression driver is a K-63-KN. I don't know the differences between the K-63-KN and K-64-KN, but the KV-4 is the center channel match to the bigger CF's. The CF-1 has a smaller 1" compression driver. The KLF-C7 has a 1" compression driver (K-90-KV) on a 90x60 tractrix horn. It is the center channel match to the rest of the KLF series. And though the KLF-20 and KLF-30 share the same midrange and tweeter, they don't use the same compression drivers as the KLF-C7. Though they all use a 90x60 tractrix horn in the midrange. The KLF-10 also has a 90x60 tractrix horn, but the compression driver is different than all the other KLF's. The Academy is a closer match to the original Heresy, Forte and Chorus as they all shared 90x40 exponential tweeter horns. The Heresy 3 is different enough that another Heresy 3 would be the perfect center channel match. But an Academy should still be pretty close. Regardless, people mix and use them as center channels for many different speakers... "matched" or not. Whatever sounds best to your ears, in your room, is the best way to go. In my experience, I see more KLF-C7's listed on Craigslist. While Academy's seem to pop up more on Ebay. KV-4's seem to be the hardest to find.

The Panic button is done, no not the system, just the secured "Button". On the Bench currently is the project box, six circuits no less, still waiting on my Ebay relay board. Drill press chuck locked up on me, will be dealing with that next. And we all know what day it is eh ?

  21. True I have tried it before, but it's been years, I found what I liked ( Community New Orleans blend ) and stuck to it. But really as long as it's not weak tasting I will be fine, especially for free. I have a feeling I have cheap taste buds, or I ruined them, they love the Chicory flavor in coffee, pure coffee taste flat to me.

  26. Yes, we can look at motives. 1. Big, dirty industry wants us to believe there is no anthropological global warming. 2. Climatologists agree AGW is serious issue that can shake the foundations of our planet. They want subsidies to study it and prove it. Profiteers want to manage brokerage houses designed to trade on emission allotments. Who do you believe? That's the question. Seems you align with those greedy climatologists and profiteers. The answer, naturally, is unscientific. All it will derive from is the lenses through which you view politics. I don't agree. You were around when Texas, along with other states, got together to take on tobacco which resulted in the dismantling of the tobacco industry. That case was all about science and big tobacco knew they had none and what science they did have, in unauthorized released documents, showed they knew it was harmful, they knew it was addictive, but they could fund around that. You have seen the standard change like I have from Frye to Daubert. I have dealt with science, and "junk science" my whole career. It can be political, certainly. But you know as well as I do that in medicine and science there is funding protocols to keep it as independent as possible, and then there is funding that comes from business like tobacco, oil companies, drug companies and on the other side as well. The Sierra Club and others have their own scientists, etc. UT and A & M are two of the top public research universities in the country (so is Rice). The protocols for research grants, try to eliminate as much bias as possible, but we are dealing with humans who want the money, and humans who give out the money. But in the end, what results is a peer reviewed research study. This is the filter that science used to weed out the junk, the politics, and even is some cases, made up data. I think it works really well. I am aware that administrations try and put a slant on the research that is conducted by various agencies. This gets exposed, it happened with global warming. But as you know, in science where there is disagreement a true scientist will say it needs to be studied further. It sorts it self out one way or the other over time free of politics just like it did with the ban on CFCs over DuPont's strong stance there was no "scientific link." Pretty soon you become the lone wolf in the wilderness. Science has done so with tobacco, DDT, mercury, the ozone layer, Actos, thermography (remember that, they could diagnosis you after putting you in a freezer and then taking a "photo" of you) and on and on and on. When you have "Institutes" created with tobacco money, oil money, chemical company money, drug company money it is pretty easy to see that they are not scientists. The same is true of anti (fill in the blank) people on the other side. I try to read the actual studies myself, both pro and con, if any, and make up my own mind. The key, is finding the real scientists on an issue, and avoiding the funded advocates who may happen to have a scientific background. We deal with this all the time in forensics, I think that is why is so easy to see what is science, what is "hype" and what is advocacy. Scientists in stating and defending their conclusions write a different way, talk in a different way, refer to prior conclusions in a different way then in the world of jurisprudence and political debate. It is pretty easy to spot, at least for me, someone who is defending their conclusions based on observations (a scientist) and someone advocating a position that may be based on scientific data. I have also seen on many, many occasions say, without hesitation, "the research is mixed on that," or "we don't have an answer to that yet, Dr. _________ over at _________ is doing a study on that now." A real scientist will say when the jury is still out. I do agree, when money is at stake, we will all look through the lens that is going to preserve our self interest. My point is that, given time and the desire to find objective answers, science is where to look. I look at all of the peer reviewed studies on the casual relationship between fracking and local earthquakes. The recent SMU study is pretty clear that they were unable to reach a conclusion one way or the other, much more research is needed. While there is a temporal relationship, there isn't one that would withstand scientific scrutiny one way or the other. Eventually there will be some solid scientific data on that, one way or the other. Unfortunately, I think as a result of Denton banning fracking last November, everyone is going to hire there own private research to be done. It will take years and years to sort that out I am thinking.

  29. My wife had some fabric (burlap) and wanted a table cloth made. Asked me to do it (ha) Not one to back down from a fun challenge.... I took it up..... Couple hours later, handed her the table cloth that she wanted with all the edges rolled over & sewed shut and two seams down the middle where I spliced three pieces together. Send it to me and for the price of a beer, I'll put it together. Realize, the only thing I know how to make is a table cloth so, if you don't mind a table cloth hanging from your windows, you're golden!!

  31. If you remember from BB, "The Extractor" created a new identity for Saul, and sent him to Nebraska. Another point: Better Call Saul cannot possibly be completely independent from BB, because it is in fact a prequel, which by logic will have people in it that Jimmy/Saul has a relationship with. So people like Mike will be in the show, which I see as interesting and a benefit. I expect a key component to BCS will be how Jimmy/Saul came to know some of those in BB. Also: BCS wasn't the highest rated series premiere in history, but the highest CABLE series premiere.

  33. Yes, like chicory, it is all good mostly. Am thinking about finally getting a little bit of the coffee's mentioned here like, just haven't been shopping yet for it. Major Dic...,Kona, other. Even found an Italian brand in a can of espresso. Lasted awhile here. Need to go shopping, I do. Now that you mention it, I will specifically look for the Community you mentioned. Community can make a good cup, but you will never confuse it with 100% Kona. You won't confuse the price difference either.

  34. A friend of our daughters gave her some coffee from where he works, a 2.5 pound bag of Dunkin Donuts original blend and a 3 pound can of Folgers classic roast. I tried the Dunkin Donuts coffee and it's good but not nearly as strong as my usual Community, but it's coffee and I am cheap. Never tried the Folgers yet, it's next. Been wanting to try different brands, and free is always good at the rate I go through coffee.

  40. Small clinic here.... So the system has two XO. An HF network that is complicated. Would be hard to even run active on this. And a simple LF network that is -12dB....two common parts only. The end user typically would biamp with one amp to the top section with the HF 4.5 network and active on the bottom end with XO 650Hz. The bottom end needs to EQ. But the HF needs all kinds of EQ....so the HF passive XO is essential....very specific to that driver.

  41. I've gone from S/S to P/P to 300b to 2A3 to 45 tubed Welborne StarChiefs. I've tried Decware and George Wright amps with my Klipschorns but the 45 tube SET sound is something special. I do use P/P Wright EL 34 monoblocks with my La Scalas (my rock and roll rig) for the extra punch. The extra power comes in handy for rock and rock, but for jazz and female vocals, the 45 is the bomb!

  42. It is indisputable that what humans do on Earth will have no lasting impact on the planet. What’s thoughtless is the mindset that there is no need to try to make conditions better for ourselves while we’re here. Not caring, or the viewpoint that we have no control of ourselves, is similar to someone who has a poor diet, smokes, doesn't exercise and plays Russian roulette. Who supports a person who says ‘what’s the use, in the end we all die?’ We do have some control. Overpopulating and trying to compensate our conditions with windmills and such while ignoring the pink elephant at the table is just more foolishness. We can't control asteroids or volcanos but we can control other things.

  44. Sortof interesting how the shale drilling is not doing so swell lately due to price of product. Saudi's benefit by the price then while Russia and Iran are left holding the bag, which is dwindling being oil producing countries. If I believed in conspiracy theories, I would say that no better way to put the pressure on Iran while at the nuclear bargaining table, and Russia being invited to leave the Ukraine. Maybe it is true that dictators will get what they deserve, in the end. ?

  46. This entire thread (a few posts excepted) is a giant ad hominem attack against climate science. The arguments are reminiscent of the ones put forth by stupid parents who refuse to vaccinate their children. Since I personally know some NOAA scientists, I'll take their word for it over anything put forth so far in this thread. This is a blatantly partisan political thread and should be closed. Take it to Fox News sites, this BS is beneath the Klipsch forum standards (and against forum policy if I'm not mistaken).
