  4. Good morning, y'all. Coffee tastes better with colder weather. Freezing rain not bad here, so far; another round of winter mix due tomorrow. Be careful those with icy roads.

  5. Wonder what a subwoofer would do with ice on a roof, other for instance. Those roof rakes look like a cold idea, but necessary. Like some of the ones we hear about and see on the forum. Saying as little as possible, since no one from the outside will ever read...sad. BS...just kidding. coffee

  11. Did you know there is a way to always have a custom list of the latest forum topics and posts? There is, and it works pretty well! At the top-right of every forum page, just below the search box there is a link named "View New Content". Clicking on that will take you to a magical place full of butterflies and unicorns. Okay, maybe not really THAT magical, but it's pretty cool nonetheless. On that page, you can filter all the latest forum content to you liking. So, if you just wanted to see the newest posts to appear in the "2-channel", "Subwoofers", and "Lounge" forums since your last visit, you can totally do that! Even nicer - it remembers your last-used filter So it stays that way every time you visit that page until you change it. It's a pretty powerful way to see the latest content tailored just to your liking. Try it out! (The link also appears at the bottom of every page)

  12. This is just my opinion, but a horn loaded subwoofer goes very well with a horn loaded bass bin such as found on the La Scala, Belle, Khorn. Since you are not running any of those, I too would agree, add a second SW-115. However, my TubaHT manages to fill my entire unfinished basement with bass, I have never been as happy with any other sub as I am with this one. I have no regrets pushing my Sunfire Signature aside for it. I don't mix them either... just couldn't get it to sound right, so one or the other.

  13. Generally speaking mixing horn loaded and direct radiator subs doesn't work very well. You'd be best served getting another SW115.

  14. Good afternoon from the great northwest! Coffee felt better this morning as last nights rain did manage to freeze overnight. Took it eeaaaaasssyy going to work today. So I got introduced to the concept of a horn loaded sub for my HT on another thread and my wheels have been spinning all night over it. I have much research to do, I know nothing about them except from what surface stuff I've read on here. I love this place that I can get one or two sentences from other people who are at least in a comparable arena of crazy about sound as I am and be completely derailed for a day (sigh - or more)! end random tangent. Have a great day all - enjoy!

  20. "That sub-forum hasn't changed, it just doesn't make the front page". So now our quick reference for updates and additions takes additional key strokes and important subjects like Cornman's sad news may go unseen for those who don't jump through the additional hoops. We know the lounge is still here that was never the question and no doubt some other post will fill the void. From what I can tell looking at "Recent Post" last night the void will be filled with Garage sell items....not more audio news. God when has there been more audio news? Lounge is the fabric of this forum and was working fine! Leave it alone! My take.....for those of us who peruse the forum daily it was helpful to see the most recent post at a quick glance. That was a good feature.

  21. i think you’re right … if it weren’t for the Lounge topics, i’d have left this place after i got my first question answered. Just because it’s an audio forum, doesn’t mean i want to talk audio all the time. I’ve talked sports with the food servers at the local eatery; told jokes with my doctor during an exam -- I realize that Chad isn't removing the lounge section -- i just don’t think it was a problem to begin with. If people are congregating in the Lounge -- there’s a reason for it, and the people that make up this community should matter more than what we talk about -- and we’re still the cheapest advertising around.

  22. Seems The Lounge topics are/is some of the adhesive that holds this group together. I realize that this is a forum Hosted by Klipsch. I think I'll just go back to bed. That's my vote. I hope that most on the forum disagree with me.

I see Earl is having TT problems, proper tuning to the ears takes awile, and no two guys problems are alike. I better hit the Audio store today and get him a Card.

  27. Good morning/afternoon friends.... Just went through all the postings since yesterday morning, looks like lots of activity and friendship (0; Anyway, keeping with the organ theme, we are working at a church that is under restoration including a new bell tower because of an F3 tornado that went through 4 years ago... So, I just took this shot of the organ built in Westfield MA. 1891 ! We are taking pipes out from the inside divisions which are needing cleaning and are being trayed and brought back to our shop for restoration... It is still a little messy around the lower half of the photo, as new carpet is going down in the front area only, and yeah, that's my jacket on the railing ;0) Enjoy ;0)

  29. I spent most of the afternoon in the Home Theater comparing my current HK AVR3600 with the two Onkyo Receivers (TX-NR808 & TX-NR1008) I picked up recently. Before I began comparing, I anticipated the Onkyo TX-NR1008 and TX-NR808 to sound the best for HT (due to Audyssey) but expected the HK to sound better than the Onkyo's for music. It's been several years since I have not used a 200 watt/ch amp in my HT so I was curious how each sounded with just their internal amps. I began with the 1008, then moved to the 808 and lastly to the HK 3600. For BD, I watched the Galvatron Chase scene from Transformers, Dark of the Moon, and a few scenes from The Dark Knight Rises. For Music, I used Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds: Live at Radio City, Nora Jones & Eagles: Hell Freezes Over In testing the Onkyo's, I ran Audyssey in the 6 recommended positions and set the crossovers, gains and settings the same for both receivers. I did not hear any audible difference between the Onkyo TX-NR808 and the TX-NR1008. I guess that is to be expected since they use the same processing, same power. The main difference between the two receivers is 7.2 vs 9.2, 1 HDMI Out vs 2 HDMI Out and a few additional inputs, none of which would have effected the SQ. The Onkyo sounded fantastic for both HT and for Music. As I stated in another thread, the Onkyo has TOTALLY changed my opinion on how they sound for music. I am very pleased with how the Onkyo handles music. After testing the two Onkyo receivers, I hooked up the HK AVR3600. The one thing I noticed immediately was that the HK sounded brighter, more detailed than the Onkyo receivers did. It was crisper, sharper, whereas the Onkyo was more laid back. It reminded me of how my RF-7's sounded compared to my previous RF-83's. The 83's were just more laid back, yet still detailed. Same was true for the Onkyo. To my ears, I actually prefer the brighter, more detailed sound of the HK. This really surprised me, especially since the HK had the lowest MSRP ($899 for HK3600, $1099 for Onkyo 808, and $1399 for Onkyo 1008). With that said, I do realize that I have three LaScalas which are EXTREMELY efficient and easy to drive. The Onkyo's might have a clear advantage if driving less efficient speakers. Not sure. The HK, even though it was only 85/ch, had no problem driving all 7 speakers. I am very curious how the HK 3600 will compare to my Onkyo TX-NR5008 once it gets back from repair. I am anxious to find out if the Onkyo TX-NR5008 will sound better due to the much more powerful amp section, Audyssey XT32, THX Ultra2 Certified, Independent 1 Teroidal + 3 Transformers, and had a $2700 MSRP. You would think with a $899 vs $2699, there should be a significant audible difference.......guess we will have to wait and see.

  30. may need to replace a dust cap on my forte2 passive. it is a 4.5" cap but my question is what material would it be? paper or felt? simply speakers has a goood assortment of caps but some are paper & some are felt. i think i would call the forte cap felt as you can kind of see "fibers" or hairs like a felt material vs solid smooth paper. anyone ever had to replace these caps & know for sure what material it is? i will try all the other trick to pull it out first but so far tape & a househole upright vac have failed. shop vac is next.

  31. thank you sir. i should have mentioned i have replaced many surrounds & dust caps before on other home & car speakers but your tips are great for ones who may not be familiar with doing this. also aware it doesnt change the sound. its more of a cosmetic thing for me... or perfectionism, or OCD type of thing, i like to keep my gear & speakers & stuff in nice shape. hate it when people push in dust caps! lol. & on that same note the material does matter, to me, i want it to look right & match the other one. think what they call felt is a very close match to stock klipsch. dont tell moray james about the mass thing... a paper dust cap weighs probably 5 grams.... 2 big washers weigh 2.5oz! i think i want to stay the same size, the new cap has a lip to meet the cone, just like the stock one. when i cut the inside of the old cap off it will leave that very thin lip that is whats actually glued to the cone, i will just glue the new cap right onto that lip & it will be the exact same size. the cap will be raised the thickness of the material but hardly noticeable... compared to going to a 5" cap. would like both caps to match, incase i ever sell them, &, on account of that OCD thing!

  33. Dear Normal Guy... The Jubilee was actually designed for residential use. Yep....as in designed to be used in the home. Only because it was So good, was it able to stand tall in the cinema lineup. Remember, it was originally planned to become the Klipschorn II. That said, it could still be too big for his room (but I'd say it's not having seen his room) So Normal Guy.... nice try at being normal. You can go back to your OCD Klipsch loving self again so we can all relate with you.

  34. In this context compression is not about file size but about dynamic range. Compression in audio attempts to reduce the difference between the quietest and loudest portions of the audio signal. This compression makes quiet things louder and loud things more quiet. My instinct is to always keep any kind of post processing compression off. Most TV programming will already be compressed to a certain degree and don't require any additional work. Movie programming may or may not be additionally compressed for broadcasting but, given the work that goes into creating a movie sound track, I would prefer to leave that untouched as to preserve the original presentation as much as possible. As far as Matrix vs Stereo goes; if you do not Matrix your sound you will not have access to any Dolby Surround encoding that may be available with those programs. This may not be a factor depending on what you watch or whether or not you have a surround sound system. Material that is native stereo will not be affected by having Matrix enabled, and any other programming will be processed into surround in accordance to it's program.

  38. The forum is a complicated communications system subtle interrelationships not apparent to an outsider. Some changes seem to be on whim and without apparent purpose. We originally had forum categories that had become logical and functional in the minds of the members because most had gotten used to what would be posted in "General Questions", etc. These are ways of thinking, and changes take a while to adjust to the new thinking patterns. It does seem that these have settled into place in spite of new, not entirely self-evident and sometimes confusing categories like "Lounge". Members have had to work at figuring out what gets posted in new categories, and where to look for posts in mental categories in THEIR minds. What you're seeing is members trying to struggle with changes that are not self-evident and don't necessarily work in the way intended by the designer. The ins and out of the Forum are too complicated for unexplained changes that aren't fully worked out. So, IMO, the answer is "yes" to the question do you need to run changes by a committee. My suggestion is to tend to leave things alone unless there are pressing needs to revise.
