  3. At the opposite end of the spectrum, we moved into the modern age with steaming digital. A Toshiba laptop running JRiver 21 was doing player duty. The Mark and Daniel Maximus Opal Air4 took care of all the rest. They are SKAA wireless, NuForce DAC, D-class amps and speakers all in one complete package. Everyone was impressed with these gems.

  5. Mornin' guys .. still have a few 'likes' to catch up on but wanted to check in. Great pics Wardsweb!! Wish I could have been there. Busy Sunday here ... gonna meet up with a neice from Pueblo who is in town for a concert and then prep the smoker for ribs. Celebrating my daughter-in-law's birthday here. Will have them, our 2 yr old granddaughter and their tiny dog to go along with us and Baxter. Should be a bit chaotic but lots of fun. Bax doesn't realize he's been 'fixed' and thinks he's in love with the little dog. One can dream, I guess. Have a great Sunday and cheers to ya'll.

  6. Good morning everyone! WOW, great photos there Wardsweb, I saw those Heart LPs in the first photo and thought of Steve right away also, AND, was shocked to see the same turntable (RP-6) and in the SAME color as mine ! Did anyone notice the standard wobbly platter ? Did they like the sound of the Exact II cart ? I upgraded my subplatter the week I bought mine. Installed a Groove Chaser made for RP-6 only, made from solid, billet aluminum and JEWEL bearings, with incredible tolerances! That fixed everything Ok, TODAY the Diamond Collection (our band) is playing TWO concerts at the Eastern States Exposition fair. It is a rare occurrence, as the 60' concert stage is for MAJOR players only, but two years ago, and for the first time in the 80+ year history, this band broke the ice. It was the first time a LOCAL group had graced that stage! I was off that year, so this will be my first time on the 60' performance stage!! I will have the iPad and will try to send off some photos for you all to see later today. Have to be in the park (with our all access photo passes) and stage side by 8am. We will be there for the day and well into the evening. LAST Thursday, when I went to get my photo ID/Pass made up, over 90,000 persons passed through the ticket gates by the end of the day !!! It is a huge, annual event. Ok, all for now, got to get the SUV loaded and me ready to get out the door... Dunkin Donuts for coffee, the cables are packed and ready to go .......stay tuned my friends........more to come .............Gary

  15. Hi all, I just signed up to the board here, and I'm excited to become of the community that you guys have built ! I've been working with Klipsch Home audio gear in terms of sales and installation since 1987 , while working at Read Brothers Stereo in Chas SC, and then became involved with Pro Audio and Lighting in the late 90's. I have just repurchased a complete KP 600 system I originally owned years ago, and am now in the process of getting it back to 100%. My rig has 2 x 680 SW, 2 x 650 LF, 2 x 650 HF, 2 x Fly Bars, Aerquip Straps , Dolly Caster plates and 2 x 600 EC crossovers, all powered by a Carver/QSC rack. Overall the system is in very good shape, and I just need to re cone 2 x K41 M and replace 2 x K78 diaphragms and it should be ready to rock. Since I have the KP 650 MF modules open, I'll take some pics and post them for all to see I'm hoping that I can share some info on my rig, and would be glad to help answer any questions that I can. I am curious if any one has a specific paint recommendation for touch on the 600's ? They look in very good shape, but I would like to touch them up some. My KPs have some pretty cool quilted speaker covers that fit on the stack when its on the dolly, and I'll send pics of them too. Thanks again for all the valuable info that is on the site, and I look forward to meeting you guys. Jerry Seay Zenithlighting jerry@zenithlighting.com

  19. Afternoon Gang Could not just sit around today, fk rest, iv got chit to do. Started second stack Refurb, LF housing stripped out and my Fav smell in the world "Resin" currently setting up. Stripped out the Tweet module, stinks inside just like the first one, what the hell kind of putty Klipsch was using years ago is likely one of the reasons they do not make these anymore. Corona time, killed the Mo. bottle of wine, great taste but Zero effect.

  21. Good afternoon everyone.............. Mark, that is too funny - well, at least from where I am sitting.... We don't have that kind of neighbor, but we do have very friendly ones which will watch our house when we are away AND of course, enjoy my loud outdoor audio system ! Shower photos look fine, we get a good idea of what work is going into the project and I can't wait until the final photos show the finished room OK, all my photos are up in RTM from this afternoon's live concert. (take a look, I was pretty much the only one posting today) I can tell you, it is VERY easy to get hooked into buying the $14 per month season passes! The archives are huge and you can search via composer, conductor etc. I already found some great stuff that I would like to see, but my $9 pass only lasts a week to take it all in ... Enjoy your afternoon everyone.......... more on our show later this evening... .............Gary

  23. Last night I streamed Def Leppard Viva Hysteria Live HD HQ Full Concert into the HT. It was fantastic, it was the next best thing than actually being there. On some songs I had it a reference, and surely the neighbors were loving me. The front soundstage was great and the bass was kicking me in the chest and the back. Good times!

  24. First things first. Three prong plugs is what you want, plug them into a KNOWN grounded outlet. My question is: are these outlets REALLY Grounded? have you checked? Wrong! All your equipment should be grounded at one point only. Everything else should have their grounds isolated (lifted) with a 3 to 2 prong adapter. This lets the system ground "float" and seek it's own level and avoids ground loops (which can be even more dangerous). "Ideally" one would have their audio equipment on a separate circuit using it's own isolated ground (isolated from the rest of the circuits in the building). Yes, check to make sure the electrical outlet that everything is plugged into is actually grounded. Also check that the polarity is correct. Many older homes are not. Floating grounds in home wiring were generally allowed well into the 80's. You can buy a polarity checker at most hardware and electrical parts stores. The electrical ground wire is usually green. If there isn't any green wire in the electrical outlet junction box then the building is just sending the ground through the wiring conduit. Building codes vary by location/community, and change over time. If static electricity is getting in the signal line you might have a loose connection (cable or equipment connector). If you live in a dry climate you might want to consider a humidifier. Also consider a permanent static treatment for the upholstery and carpet. Yeah.... All i did was state NEC. Start at a known Code source, and work forward. P.S. never defeated a ground in my life, three prong(s) are there for a reason. Three prong to Two prong adapters can and do, KILL.

  25. Thunderous bass isn't my point either. It's all about integration, not sheer output..right? ....and I'm also not implying that the current sub is not up to the task...just that some experimentation is going to be involved...possibly even a new part. Careful with the RB spec, that's not reality. In practice, bookshelves sign off a lot higher than their literature suggests...espcially on stands. With the speakers spread out, you're going to have to raise your low-pass filter (the crossover) respectively.....that requires output from the sub in a sonic region where not all subwoofer designs are particualrly happy. Just saying, the new layout is not a problem for the RB's, but rather it's gonna depend on tweaking the filters and the sub to get it sounding just right....possibly even a different sub in order to round it all out. Sounds weird talking about the sub when moving the mains around, but that's acoustics.

  36. I rightfully do not belong on this thread because i don't currently own a pair of epics but i did own a pair of cf4 version 2 for just over a year. Below is my thread comparing them to khorns and also the mods i did to the epics. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/156526-cf4s-vs-khorns-review/?hl=%2Bcf4+%2Bmods https://community.kl...amp-rack-build/ The epics were amazing amazing speakers. They were my pride and joy. If you listen to rock, rap, edm, or any bass heavy or dynamic type of music these speakers truly shine. In the links above more in depth review so i really won't repeat my self. If anyone has any questions please feel free to message me. The only reason i switched is because i went to speakers which were much much more expensive. Maybe someday when i get a bigger house and i have a second room i will go on my quest to find another pair of cf4's. Alex

  39. four wire 16 gage inwall cable will serve you well, wire it as a star quad that means you use two wires positive and two wires negative. The configuration of the wires in the four wire twist will be positive negative positive and negative so the polarities alternate all the way around the four wire twist. This guarantees you the highest possible cancellation of common mode noise (any radiated noise which is induced to both positive and negative legs equally or more simply noise picked up by the cable) and results in the absolute and most quiet lowest noise cable configuration possible. Buy an oxygen free in wall cable used for multi room installs which is standard with PVC wire insulation and outer jacket also of PVC. This is the very best bang for your dollar and results in the equivalent of a fourteen gage cable that has a current capacity of a minimum of fifteen amps which is far more than you will require. Best regards Moray James.

  40. My first post. This topic inspired me to get an account and contribute something. Just picked up some like-new 10-month old La Scala 2's for the basement. I told my wife ahead of time they were "about 2X bigger" than the Heresy 3's in our family room. She knew something was fishy when the truck dropped off a 500lb pallet in my driveway. The LS2's come in four boxes - two for the tops and two for the dog houses. I was able to carry the tops downstairs easily, but I'm telling you, the dog houses are the heaviest densest two-foot cubed box I ever tried to maneuver with a dolly. It was a workout. So make sure your wife has actually seen them in person, not just a picture. Or don't - your call. After the initial surprise, my wife doesn't mind them because they are in a decent sized basement home theater. If she had to look at them every day like the H3's, it would be a different story. My room is about 17x17x8.5', carpet floors, loud walls and ceiling - no curtains. The LS2's are 10' apart on-center, slightly toed in (maybe 20 degrees) so they would come to an intersection about 5' behind me outside of my house - i.e. behind the couch against the opposite outside wall. My couch is about 14-15 feet away from the speakers. I've tried heavier toe-in's deeper into corners but I'm not sure it's worth the trouble. (At 45 degrees, those sharp corners are really sticking out far.) I might be giving up some stereo imaging at my couch in favor of filling the entire room with sound better. Not sure - still playing. I've got a couple of subs but I cut them off at 60hz - the LS2's have better bass than expected in my room. Anything higher and the subs muddy-up the LS's bass IMHO. I do turn the bass tone control to 2-o'clock on my HT receiver and send all the bass and LF effects to both the LS's and subs. Movies sound great - had to enable a setting on the receiver to turn down the LS2's minus 10db when playing movies because they were so efficient. For two-channel, I disable all DSP effects and stream music through a Shiit Bifrost Uber. The LS's handle everything above 60hz and the subs take over below 60hz. Other than the bass tone control at 2 o'clock, I do some minor digital equalization: ~2db increase at 1-1.2 kHz and ~2db decrease from about 6.5-8 kHz. Sound is awesome. In your room at 8' away, think about it. Put both of your KG 5.5's side-by-side in one speaker location, and then slide them 8" further into the room, increase the toe-in, and you have one La Scala. I'm not saying it won't work. If it is a dedicated listening room and you can listen close to the same level as the squawker, you're good. I don't think there is a near field listening issue unless this puts you are a really sharp angle to the tweeters and squawkers. Are you able to listen to them?

  43. I don't know the exact reason, as Roy Delgado would have to explain... but the speakers were built with the D'appolito configuration. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%27Appolito_Configuration
