  2. Good times in the tiki bar last night! Roy Delgado, Kevin Harmon and his awesome wife, Lisa hung out till the wee hours of the morning. Mr. Cuervo, Mr. Crown, Mr. Royal, Mr. Bacardi and Mr. Fireball all made an appearance! Coffee is on and dtel has home made biscuits waiting to go in the oven and sausage on the stove. Waiting on these lightweights to wake up and eat breakfast. Here's a pic of some of my favorite people! Left to right: Kevin Harmon, dtel, Roy Delgado (aka Chief Bonehead) and Lisa Harmon.

  7. I would think John Denver. John Denver if the theme is experimental aircraft. Sonny was the skier. Actually, Johnny Deutschendorf was also a skier, but you get the idea.

  12. Happy Friday- Temp is now ~30 so perhaps snow making is now possible and the ski season can begin. A little Sonny & Cher music to usher in the ski season perhaps?

  13. Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all have your Christmas shopping done (I haven't). The weather has finally turned although I'm sure it's temporary. We had 40's this morning and 30's scheduled for tomorrow. Keep in mind it's been upper 70's all week prior to this.

  15. Well the day has finally arrived! My PSA v3600i showed up early yesterday afternoon, man the packaging was no joke, almost rivals Bill's aka willand pack job. The guy who dropped it off thought it was a fridge of some sort. Anyway, this thing is a beast, I knew it was going to be big, but dang! It's quite impressive to witness in person. And the build quality is first class. I haven't had much time yet to do anything other than hook it up and listen to a few songs and some parts of bass heavy movies. With that said my initial impression... Insanity, its just pure effortless power. I haven't had time to re-calibrate and do a sub crawl, but hopefully I'll get a chance this weekend. I did have a couple sealed SI 18" subs that I made, but I decided that for my huge 10,000^3 cubit feet garage that a vented style sub would be a better way to go, and I've been very pleased with the results. My RSW-15 and RB-81 for size reference.

  16. Good Thursday morning. Coffee and Christmas music as background while reading the paper. A real paper is actually delivered Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Detroit must be the last metro area with two papers, News and Free Press. That won't last much longer. Woke expecting to see that evening rain had turned to snow, but, alas, no. I pity those who like to ski, and those who count on skiing for their livelihood. At current temps, local ski facilities can't even make snow. If they aren't open during the upcoming holiday school breaks they're in deep trouble. Nearly time to go out and embrace the day.

  18. Horn loaded subwoofers have advantages and disadvantages. The biggest disadvantage is size & possible placement options. The biggest advantage is sound quality. Direct radiators are easy to build, just about anybody could build one but they do eat up lots of power in comparison. Why spend my time building horns you ask ? I build just about anything but feel horns have a major advantage so i like to recommend them. Why ? Lower distortion, cleaner midbass, higher crossover points, minute nuances, true sound, better attack without bloat. This equates to better all around sound and easier blending with your mains, big or small. Do i make more money building horns ? No, i can usually whip up a DR cabinet in one day where correctly building a horn takes time because leaks severely impact performance. If you place them side by side the differences are enormous.

If you can't find one now, keep your cash set aside and wait. The deal will come. They just got discontinued. There will be more and more on the market.

  29. That's great and I can appreciate that as much as anybody, I played bass guitar for 20+ years, I've played on Fender amps, Gallien Kruegers, Ampegs, simulators, played in bands where another guy had a Mesa Boogie, etc. I know what they're supposed to sound like live. Muddy bass guitar is very annoying. It's nice to hear the amp's growl. If somebody plays on a classic Ampeg tube setup, you should be able to recognize the brand name. I got rid of a couple of 15's for this very reason, just sloppy in this regard. That being said, much of this issue is due to blending with your mains. Bass guitars can play all the way up to 10 kHz. 2-4 kHz is very strong. It's got everything in between as well. Yes, the snap of a kick drum comes from your tweeters and lots of bass guitar comes from your midrange. Blending with your mains is the key to getting the result that you did. Interesting read on this: http://www.soundstage.com/maxdb/maxdb061999.htm "What about bass detail? How come one speaker has so much more bass detail than another? This too is strictly driver integration and NOT the quality of the woofer itself, as you may have heard. The fact is, bass detail comes from the midrange driver. But your ear/brain is so completely fooled by this complex interaction of midrange and bass sound that you believethat it is strictly a bass-related thing. It isn’t, and you can prove it by listening to something very boring but also very instructive. Listen to a subwoofer all by itself for a while. You won’t hear anything vaguely resembling speed coming from that slow, soggy-sounding, plodding subwoofer. It has no detail and no speed whatsoever when heard all by itself. Integrate it carefully with a nice set of main speakers, however, and suddenly the subwoofer has scads of detail, and if the integration is off a little, the bass will sound fast or slow too. All of that sense of speed and detail is coming from the main speakers, but from the midrange, not the woofer. That is why the integration of the woofer and the midrange drivers is so critical to getting a good-sounding speaker."

  30. It's OK to have more than one system, I think. Besides how else can I compare if I don't own them both. I'll be building/designing a new Quarter Pie that uses even less floor space with no sacrifice in bottom end or top end.. It will be that VS. a Jube Clone with the 402's. 2016 will be a good year.

  40. Morning group, trying Starbucks cup of Joe (or something like that). Not bad I must say, anybody have a preferred method how they brew this particular brand? I just use a regular coffee maker, 1 heaping tablespoon per a 6 ounce cup. Has anybody tired the 2 tablespoons per a 6 ounce cup? Seems like that would be a bit strong. Have a great day everyone.

  43. Hey guys, My prized RF-5 speakers that I gave to my father have been completely manhandled during a move this morning. My father told him to be extremely careful - yet somehow this happens. Now we need to figure out what to do. I tried calling the Klipsch Parts Department today to see if they have any replacement woofers but they appear to be closed! Im not even sure if they even have any laying around anymore since they have been out of production for so long. If I cant find any woofers Id like for these people to cover the original cost of the speakers but I do not have my original invoice anymore! Does anyone know how much these retailed for? I need to figure out how to get some kind of invoice made so I can give it to these people so they cover the cost. Super disappointing.

  44. A local brick mortar A/V is calling it quits and I took advantage buying what I am sure is one of a last few new Samsung plasma big screens. In the "big room" - B&W Nautilus 802D, Classe 600 watt monoblocks, AR tube hybrid preamp, high end table, cables, DAC etc. totaling around $40-45K. I must say where most of us here have good if not great sounding rigs, me included, this level of gear is in a different league. And yes it sounds very, very good. Extremely clean, crisp, almost too much bass to the point of bloat but an effortless hi end sound. A real clinic on hi end "hi fi" presentation. Whatever the hell that might be. Through it all each piece showed tremendous build, engineering quality. No doubts there.

  45. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that your statement is probably the last thing Jay needed to hear. Really. I mean, he did say the situation was being rectified, and that customers should see an improvement very soon. I don't want to be rude here, but please, this is a huge company with an enormous bureaucratic bunch of bullshit that they have to go through to get much of anything done, so unless this issue is completely ignored (which it isn't), and nothing changes (we will see), I would recommend giving them a break. I can only imagine the call volume right now during the holidays.

  46. The old surround is too stiff, i would need to replace the whole thing. I looked into surround kits too but the measurements are off. Just going to replace them with something, seems like the only option. New 8" woofers are cheap but i may be able to get some used as well but now i have no tunes at all, not bringing the Chorus II's out to the shop and don't want to take them out in the house in fear of the cat clawing up the grille material or passive.
