  3. So, I took advantage of the big discounts on Palladiums and ordered a set of P-37’s, along with the center and surrounds in Merlot. I did not order the sub as it is just too big for me and I already had the RT-10D, which is excellent and compact. The Palladiums replace KLF-20s/C7 and KSP-S6 surrounds. They arrived roughly a couple weeks ago. I am driving them with a Denon AVR-X6200W, and I use Audessey room correction. After many years of tinkering, I had my KLF-20’s really, really dialed into my room and they sounded beyond excellent. My expectations for the Palladiums were better looks, slightly better mids/highs, slightly better imaging, and significantly better center integration/matching. I had my doubts about bass, but given I am running a good sub, I was confident I could get the bass dialed in and would be at least as good. In short, my hope was that these would provide the best sound I have ever heard. (No pressure, haha). The first thing to happen was that my RT-10D subwoofer inexplicably died right at the beginning, so it is in the shop, and I am without sub. When I first turned them on (no sub, no Audessey), I immediately noticed that the P’s had potential, mids/highs were smoother and clearer, and I was very surprised by the quality of the bass. But I knew I had some work to do to get the P’s dialed into my room. Now, I have to say again, the previous KLF-20s were really dialed in, so I had a good idea of the sound I was expecting. After two weeks and probably 20 hours of adjusting speaker positions, running Audessey, dozens of times, with multiple Audessey mic patterns, multiple speaker positions, and driving my wife crazy, last night it finally clicked. And Oh. My. God. It was goose-bump-city all evening. Yes, this is the best sound I have ever achieved in my house. Here are my a few tracks that I use to know if I am dialed in: Blue Ray: I use the movie “Battleship”. This movie has tremendous sound effects. When the alien ship breaks up and slams into earth, the explosion effects are supreme. When a piece of the alien ship slams into a glass skyscraper the explosions and smashing glass is incredible. I expect this to improve when I get my sub back, but I am pleasantly surprised how good the P’s perform without the sub. Music: Mark Knopfler – Album: Golden Heart, Track: Golden Heart. This song has some delicate guitar, delicate vocals, along with bass note that has always been a challenge to get sounding perfect in my room. Greg Brown – Album: Down In There, Track: Hillbilly Girl. This song has acoustic guitar, a delicate deep simple drum beat, and vocals that that will sound grating/awful if my midrange is not dialed in. Yarn – Album: Yarn, Track: Listen Up Sweetheart. This song has acoustic bass, steel guitar, mandolin, gentle snare drum and a certain spaciousness that I look for. Many others, but I use the above ones because I am very familiar with them and they tell me when something ain’t right. Overall happy camper here! Pics:

  4. The passive is a port-- they are typically used where port tubes would be too long for the enclosure. The RSW's still command a great resale value, maybe you'd be better off selling it as is and replacing it with something that suites your tastes a little better?

  14. Spent the day over at a friends house playing poker today, he lives in a townhouse and a neighbor pulled up in a new/used Acura/Honda Civic clone bumping the tunes so i had to see what was going on of course. Had a look to see what was going on with the music and ended up helping the guy out, ended up fixing the passenger door cable that was unhooked from the latch mechanism and then hooked up the subwoofer properly. It was a Kicker 15" in a ported cabinet and a 3000 watt jippo amplifier i ended up bridging the amp and checking all the wiring just for good measure. the sound still had no kick. Must have been Pyramid watt rating i guess. Guy barely spoke english and i tried to sell him some minor upgrades or at least something people would not laugh at but the language barrier got in the way for the most part. So much for making a few bucks. The Drop ceiling subwoofer build for the local A/V company got back with me yesterday at least and said i have their business for any further custom work. Said the build went above and beyond anything they expected and construction was excellent. This was coming from a company that imported everything from England at much more expense, made me feel good about my work at least. Time for some hot coffee, enough beer for one day. Maybe melt into the recliner for a while. :emotion-44: Kind of beat.

These are the first parts in my move from. 5.1 HT system to a dedicated 2.1 system. No questions yet, just wanted to express my happiness. They guys is selling them because his wife didn't like the look. I hope my wife does.... -Derek

  16. Porting the cabinet will probably remove too much volume to make any improvement in sound and without having access to T/S parameters outcome would a guess at best. If you need something to run with your La Scala set look into adding a proper horn sub to make your bass seamless.

  18. Happy Easter to All. Just getting up and around, hey its only 9am out here. Coffee brewing, first cup down. Going to barbeque/grill a couple whole chickens later, maybe throw on a couple steaks near the end. It'll be just me and the better half today(I think) so plenty of leftovers, yum. Without getting too religious for the forum, God Bless you all this Resurrection Sunday.

  28. RSW15 is "tight" compared to most front speakers, but not compared to a La Scala, Belle, or Khorn. I know what you mean, because my Klipschorns are "tighter" than my RSW15. Is your RSW15 positioned as recommended in the manual (in a corner fairly close to the walls)? With music I find it sometimes helps to cross over to the RSW15 at 40 Hz, letting the Khorns do their "tight" best down to there. . With some music I don't use the sub at all. In my room (according to Audyssey) my Khorns are at F3 (-3 dB) at 40 Hz, but continue to generate bass to 24 Hz (according to REW measurements). With movies I set the bass management Xover to 80 Hz, and the LPF for LFE to 120 Hz, as recommended by the movie industry.

  30. Hmmm? I think next weekend I will make a blank, solid plate to replace the passive with and seal it up. See how it sounds. A completely and easily reversible trial. My car subs got me to thinking about this. They are in sealed enclosures as well. I suppose making a vented port would really not accomplish much on the RSW. Good rainy day project... 45. When testing amplifiers and loudspeakers for EnjoyTheMusic.com, I always play a crescendo of full orchestra music. No other type of music has full audible frequency response range, highest dynamic range, widest sound pressure levels and most instruments all playing at the same time! These characteristics are extremely hard for amplifier and speaker combinations to reproduce and MOST dont. They compress and distort the notes and sounds together like puree vegetable juice. Really wanna hear what your stereo cant do? Play all-out, high-energy full symphony orchestra.
