  3. Very productive weekend. Mowed the front and back yard, trimmed the lemon tree, reversed the back door so it swings in the opposite directions, repaired a faulty lawn sprinkler valve, and met a fellow audio addict who was selling some gear. I'm set for now on gear so I picked up a Threshold FET 10 phono preamp for a friend ($40). One of those deals of a lifetime.

  4. Got some pic's, I put a bunch so you could see what I was talking about, the walkway was dark and you really couldn't see much past the bar area except from the lights under the bar roof. I just did the base of some trees just to have it look a little bigger and see more of the garden, it feels bigger being able to see out a little further. I really like the difference, none of the outside tiki torches were lit in these pic's..

The little things of comfort that help to define the meaning with in ourselves. Yes, I am talking about dreams. Earlier in the week, I made a decision. Ever since I was a little boy, I dreamed of the day. That day is to come soon my friends. That decision was to start a new savings fund. Savings to fund that dream as a young lad. My goal: have the necessary funds safely stowed away. Nickel by nickel for 2 years I will chip away at my goal. 8. Once I went to buy a chess set, one of the more fancy ones. I lived in a well to do neighborhood near the shopping area. Being a new resident, I did not think much about it. After going in several stores I left to go home. As soon as I got to my car, 5 police cars surrounded me. I politely ask what is wrong. They said a suspicious person was sighted in some of the stores. I told them that I had not seen such a person, lol. Being a person of color, I immediately new the suspicious person was me. Color can make a huge difference is some communities. I was asked a couple of question and left to go on my merry way.

Many of those poles have hooks to hang hammocks which is really handy because there are Heresy's hidden up in the back ceiling. 16. Not the greatest photos since it's kind of dark and mysterious down deep inside my smoker drum....but these were definitely the best ribs of the summer so far. After a lot of years of doing this, I'm a firm believer in a few things about my ribs.... I only use "St. Louis cut" spare ribs, which I believe have more flavor than back ribs I always remove the silver skin on the back of the racks....PIA to do sometimes, but worthwhile. I've read where other folks are adamant about leaving it on, as they say it helps to retain moisture, but that's BS as far as I'm concerned..... Rub applied overnight, and covered with plastic wrap in the fridge. I normally make my own rubs, but like to experiment with the commercial brands too. I use Pecan and Sugar Maple mix for my smoking wood. I will occasionally use Hickory (just a little), or some Oak, but the Pecan and Sugar Maple are my favorite. Spritz the ribs quickly with apple juice every half hour I use the 3-2-1 method. 3 hours on the smoke, 2 hours in foil (with a little added apple juice), and then 1 hour (still in foil), wrapped in a heavy brown paper grocery bag, and placed in a cooler. And last but not least, a good heavy Zinfandel from Ridge Vineyards or Ravenswood.....

  17. I cannot tell you guys how psyched I am. Haven't done a 2 channel set up in about 12 years. Recently bought a new home, and the style of the house allows for dramatic wood furniture, so when I saw these Walnut finished beauties pop up on CL, I reacted quickly and secured them this morning after a hasty test listen with the seller's Sansui AU-717. I was sold on them based on pics, but the cones and woofer all looked great. Excuse the lack of better pictures as I was running to work and popped these off for my wife and to document the serials. Guessing based on serial, these were made in 1986? So far, they are hooked up to nothing. In the market for a silver or silver+wood receiver of 70-120 watts. Currently enamored with the CR-2020. Glad to be back!

  18. During the trip to Alabama to pick up my custom cabinet for my home theater, me, my father, Shaun and his wife took a side trip to Woodruff, South Carolina to visit W.C. at Panacea Engineering. W.C. has been working over the past 3 years on building the largest showrooms of Klipsch Heritage and Cinema Series. None of us had ever heard any speakers from the Cinema Series and I am the only one from the group that had ever heard Khorns. Although I knew it was still under construction, we all were excited about the opportunity to hear and see firsthand some Klipsch speakers that we were not familiar with. Upon our arrival, W.C. invited us into his showrooms. W.C. was super friendly and inviting and after giving us a tour of the facility, he showed us the Golden Jubilees. These were absolutely gorgeous! They had just been hooked up the day prior to our arrival so they had not been calibrated or tweaked. Shaun's wife loves music the most out of us four so we let her sit in the sweet spot. She's an awesome DJ and selected a ton of music from W.C.'s CD Collection and one after another, she demoed song after song. After at least an hour listening to the Golden Jubilees, she kept saying "Just one more song" yet continued to play several more songs. We listened to a wide variety of genres and the Jubilees handled each of them with grace and elegance. Vocals were realistic and smooth. Bass was tight and tactile. Needless to say, they sounded fantastic! With no subwoofer, the Jubilees provided very nice amount of bass that was super clean. I wish I could remember the horn he used but W.C. said he prefers that wooden horn over the normal one that typically is used with the Jubilee. The wooden horns were made by Bill Martinelli and will be on another set of Jubilee base bins that are still in Charlotte. The crossovers were a PWK design. Not only were these speakers beautiful and artistic in design, they provided HUGE sound. Truly an incredible experience to hear them. W.C. said he has two more storage rooms in Charlotte full of the commercial stuff. They will be displayed on the second floor. He is shooting for a September opening. After demoing the Golden Jubilee's, I took photos and them and the other Klipsch speakers he had setup. Unfortunately, none of the other speakers were connected but since I love photography, I was just as thrilled taking photos of them as I would be listening to them. In another showroom, on one wall, he has a pair of Khorns and LaScalas II that will be powered by McIntosh gear and on the other wall, he has another pair of Khorns, Cornwalls, and Walnut Heresy's. On top of the Khorns were Eliptrac 400 horns and a pair of wooden horns. Not sure how these will be incorporated.

  19. Our son has been an officer with Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC for five years. The majority of officers in MPD are non-white. Most are African-Americans with Hispanic and Asian officers also in the mix. Our son was born white and raised in the suburbs of Southeast Michigan. It is sometimes a challenge for him to empathize with those he has taken an oath to protect. He seldom makes traffic stops, as the danger is not justified by the opportunity to generate revenue. Someone needs to be driving in a manner that is a danger to himself/herself or others before he pulls them over. Busted headlight, taillight out, no turn signal, 5 miles over the limit, roll though a stop sign , , , have a nice day. He won't stop you. You must realize that he is always armed. When he is off duty in civies driving his Jetta, he is armed. DC does not allow CCW, except police officers, who are required to carry a gun in all but a few circumstances. If he were to be pulled over he would do the following: 1. Put the window down immediately; 2. Turn on the interior light; 3. Respond respectfully to questions or commands from the officer; 4. Keep his hands at 10 & 2 on the wheel until the officer directs otherwise; and 5. Reach for the glove box, or anywhere else, ONLY AFTER directed to do so by the officer. He recognizes that it is unrealistic for police officers to expect 100% compliance with the foregoing recommendations. Failure to do the foregoing does not justify an overreaction by an officer. Nonetheless, it is excellent advice for anyone, especially if you are a member of a minority, as, unfortunately, all police officers do not treat all citizens the same. In addition to the basics above, our son would politely inform the officer that he is an off-duty police officer and that he has a gun in a holster on his hip. Only after being directed to do so by the officer would he reach for his identification or the gun. Please understand, that he would exercise extreme caution so that no one gets shot. This is even though he knows that, ultimately, the officer will acknowledge his status and the chances that he will get a ticket are slim to none. Now replace this sober white off-duty police officer with someone who is high and scared and the danger for everyone goes up. Add race to the equation and the potential for for disaster is magnified. FWIW, he feels the videos of the deaths in Louisiana and Minnesota show unacceptable actions taken by poorly trained police officers. He is embarrassed and distressed by such police conduct. More important, it makes it more dangerous for good police officers to protect good people. Please try hard to avoid spewing opinions in a manner in violation of TOS. Be safe.

  36. Never heard the 64ii but owned the 64. Big difference between it and the 27c? Well difference for sure. Huge? Probably not. If both were the same price then I'd say yeah big difference. But to your first question, third la scala will be best. Youthman will tell you that a la scala will trump a 64 every day of the week. Lots of guys on here enjoy the 64 but it's because they either A) haven't heard a better center or can't fit something to match their mains. There is a member on here who switched from la scala 2's to Palladiums and he prefers the palladiums. If you were to go with the palladium center I would look into 17's or 37s for mains. My two center. Or seven. Lol

  37. I don't know if this adds to the conversation or is just a sidebar. But I've had multiple interactions with police, like some here have mentioned they have had. I have two short stories, however anecdotal. Same person, Me. Same car, mine. Two very very different outcomes. 1) living in very affluent Naperville, Illinois driving a very large body German car with 5% window tint on each window except windshield I made a lane change without signaling. I was pulled over. I pulled entirely off the roadway. Rolled down all four windows, opened sunroof, turned 4-ways (hazard lights) on, switched engine off, keys on roof, hands grasping door/window sill. Officer approached hand on holster, and saw the keys on the roof. Looked around in my car front and back seat. He asked license and reg. I asked if I may unbuckle my seat belt and then asked for permission to reach into pocket for ID, and into glove box. I opened glove box, asked if he would like to inspect before I reach in. He had a strange smirk on his face and said no, go ahead. I handed him my ID and he glanced at it. He handed it back. Asked if I knew why I was pulled over. I said yes, I failed to indicate my lane change. He then asked me why the windows, keys on roof and all that- he asked if I was making fun of him. I said no officer, you have a scary job- we don't know each other and I wanted you to feel safe. I would like to not be shot today. It was a blunt answer- but very much the truth. I was let go with a warning. 2) same car. Different town. I was leaving work and traveling through the "ghetto" across town to my home. I was at a red light from a two way street onto a one way street. I had a pack of Marlboro red's on my gear selector surround, but my lighter was in my pocket. I raised my hips to access my pocket and lit my cigarette after getting lighter out. After turning when light went green, Window was cracked maybe 2" to ash the cig. I had a black crown Vic right on my tail.. And I mean close! Lights and Siren going. It was an undercover car- the lights were on the sun visors. I pulled over as far as I could due to a large curb. Two officers approached my car. One on the passenger side gun drawn pointing about 4-5 feet in front of him at the ground. Driver cop approached my drivers side and yelled at my car to roll windows down. (I had barely just turned my vehicle off and switched my hazard lights on!) they were there so fast! I rolled my windows down & I was yelled at to get out of the vehicle and lay on the ground. I called back to the officer asking what I had done and why I was being asked to get out. No response.. Well not a verbal one. I was pulled from my vehicle, handcuffed, and put in back of their cruiser. They then searched my entire car.. I was released after about a 30-45min long ordeal. I was told they were looking for weapons because they saw me try to hide a weapon when I was at the stop light. So- my anecdotal evidence says- where you live makes a huge difference in how you are judged and perceived. Mind you- I'm no gang banger looking thug. The closest thing I own to gang banger was the tinted windows or maybe a Mercedes-Benz put crew racing jersey. Not fubu, not white sox hats and whatever else that seem to be stereotypical. Maybe situation 1 was white priveledge? And 2 was just fluke? Doubtful... Seems to happen all to much. Luckily I wasn't killed! It scares me to be pulled over these days.. And I have skin color on my side. I can't imagine the terror in the black community or the police community these days. And those stories 1 & 2 were not that long ago. Sad days. I hope drastic change is possible.

  39. In my opinion, no, not at all, you should plainly state that you do not consent to a search but you will not resist. The 4th amendment doesn't exist for nothing, and nothing good can come from it. Same thing when they ask "where are you going"? You point down the road and say "that way". I realize this is a seemingly innocent tactic to see if you start giving weird conflicting statements and more or less to see how you react, but still, It's none of their business where you are going, nothing good can come from your explanation. This is America, we don't have the Gestapo here. We shouldn't act like we do.

  40. Personally, when your nerves and adrenaline kick in, your reaction is not what you expected. This is why a person does one thing and remembers doing something totally different, be it a policeman or ordinary citizen. That's where more training for the police comes into play, and restraint on both sides is of great value. Bruce

  47. I actually attended the Newport Show referenced and happened to take in Ampsandsound's setups while there. There were two rooms, one with the two ways being driven and one with the three ways. I spent some time with the three ways (more than I intended) and can attest to the fact that the performance was sterling. The cabinetry was top tier, with a finish that was stunning. Perfect. But, for me it was about the performance. I am somewhat familiar with Justin's workmanship and have grown to expect a high level of commitment to anything he does - but the three ways exceeded my expectations. I heard very little at the show that were their equal, and hung around listening longer than expected because they really did shine. Very, very nice. Best of luck to one of the good guys in audio.

  48. "Having a good product is not enough. Despite what our ignorant government "leaders" would have us believe, you don't produce a product to "create jobs" or even "make speakers" for the love of the product. You are in the business of making money." Job growth is a sign of a healthy business. No one makes millions of dollars by running a business alone. A product that creates jobs means more money. I'm curious about this dealer "network". There hasn't been a real high end dealer network in 20 years - which is why everyone drags their product to audio shows. The remaining high end dealers don't give up floor space to new product (since most go out of business in the first year) - but to well known and established businesses - and that list is still surprisingly long.
