Ive done it... I was offered a job with a start up in Memphis and I chose to take it. I sold my home in California, and much of my personal property, and up rooted my family to Tennessee. When I made the decision to go to Memphis, I was given a contract for ownership percentage at a future date as well as a straight percentage of sales and I worked and slaved for a handful of years to build the company while earning a salary and commissions (7%)... the work we accomplished grew the company 500%. The day finally arrived for the final written contract for ownership and all its details and when I read it, it said 1%... I had words with the owner about how disappointed I was, signed the contract and went home for that evening. After painfully thinking about it all night, I came back the new day and told the owner that I wished to rescind the contract and made him sign a rescind contract I had written. That afternoon the wife came into my office and had discussion where she asked me if I planned to screw them.... I thought for a second (at that point I was very upset), I said yes and stood up... walked out of my office and NEVER had another conversation with them or anyone associated with that company. As far as I know, that company soldered on for a few years but was never the same and I do believe it has closed operations. Retrospective... I wished I had been more professional and worked my way thru the issues. I am older and my life has never been the same since leaving... I have not been able to get another job in the same field despite working as a creative professional for 35 years. I do believe that no one wants a 50+ year old creative even with decades of background. For me, If there is any lesson to be learned... make sure you have something lined up before making any life changing choices. Much of the pain that folks feel is self imposed... its work, suck it up and live life outside of employment.3 points

Good idea BSM, I will ask what they like for a nosh posh party before having a little beanbag studio chair sitdown chat. When they ask why the music equipment is stacked to the ceiling, I will tell them it is a hobby I gave up long ago but, like an old habit, it follows me where I go... With a little getting to know you playing in the background...lol3 points

The average person will change jobs 7 times in their lifetime, and have 2 completely different career paths. I would still advise you to have something lined up before you quit your current job. Especially in today's job market, it's not easy to find another job.2 points

Yup, it was her idea. She's an RN, so worst case she goes back to work for a bit.2 points

More important than any job is being there for family, your health and mental well being. No doubt money makes the world go 'round but without all the above has little meaning. You say funds are available for a short hiatus and if you have skills for today's market then take a break and refresh. Hit it hard after a few months in another environment where things have a different look. I had a different situation a few years ago when under new management and slow business the writing was on the wall, so I left. A year and a half later the new president asked why no one was in my previous position - one thing led to another and a month later I was back in a more prestigious position, more $$$ and a new outlook from all parties. Best luck2 points

Mich State 84-74 over Wis. How about that, you Spartan fans were all concerned about nothing. When making Big Dance predictions The talking heads on ESPN all seem to agree that the in-conference record is all-important. They say the Committee looks dimly on a team with a good record if they can't go at least .500 within the conference. If that's true then the 10-6 Spartans look solid. Nothing to worry about.2 points

Picked up a very nearly pristine 2001 Mazda Miata. A few ticks less than 56K on the odometer. Not too bad for a 16 year old car. It's the LS edition so it's pretty much loaded option wise.2 points

how friendly are you? You can always invite the neighbors over for dinner and make sure to show of the sound system. i think they’re less likely to call the cops if they already know you.2 points

That is fun. Back in my married days, we’d do that with Chinese places for dinner.2 points

Need some advice on the new neighborhood regarding volume control. Do I piss them off when just getting into office/cottage or, wait and stretch the envelope some officials may do, just to see how far I can stretch it before there is a knock from the local police? Or, peace them off when I am near going out the gate to my new digs? BTW, will have room for Chorus and larger at new location. Last location had thought about having company over but decided against it as the place was not large for both of us to occupy at the same time. Landlady did not mention that smoking, drinnking, loud music and parties were not allowed. So, she had her chance and I will presume all is well...until I receive a memo to the contrary. Thinking I may get the neighbors shirt from Klipsch to wear around her first, just in case. Now assuming I get no rise, I may just play Green Light... Lol, when she asked me if it would be one or 2 living there, I remarked that yes, sometime there are multiple folk around like 20 for example. She just laughed...2 points

I've been wanting to dive into the Heritage line for awhile (eyeing Heresy iii), but I think procrastination will have paid off. Here's to hoping to have the Fiii's as my intro to Heritage. Thanks to all the input from the veterans on here, that helped cut down on my productivity at work today.2 points

LaScalas any day! Fully horn loaded speakers are in a different league. Yes, the mids can be brought down to get a better tonal balance (mids not so in your face and bass will seem better). An 11x15 room will work. Take some cardboard and make some 2x2 ft. squares to see what floor space you will lose. Bruce1 point

Now that skeeters were mentioned, I got attacked by them working in the yard a couple days ago. I was bitten about 8 times in 15 minutes. I really hate hearing them around my ears. I'd rather deal with bees, wasps, and hornets than skeeters. I don't think I've ever had a mosquito bite in February, but it's 72 here today.....single digit wind chills tonight1 point

Jimmy just got a divorce. He was still very angry about the whole thing... angry that the witch divorced him, angry that he had to pay her alimony, angry that she got the house, angry that she got half of everything that he'd worked so hard to build. He needed a vacation. So he went down to Florida. One evening, he was walking along the beach after a storm, and he saw a brass lamp laying half buried in the sand. He picked it up, and as he was brushing away some sand from the side of it, a genie appeared. The genie said, "You have freed me from my captivity, so I shall grant you three wishes. Choose wisely, though, for whatever I give to you, your ex-wife shall get twice as much."Jimmy thought for a bit, then said, "You know what... screw a million... dude I want a BILLION dollars."The genie said, "I can grant you that wish, but remember, your ex-wife will get 2 billion."Jimmy said, "Yeah, yeah, whatever..."So the wish was granted. The genie said, "You have two wishes remaining. Choose wisely."Jimmy thought a bit more, then said, "I want a ranch. Not some piddly little ranch, though... I want 150,000 acres, 10,000 head of cattle, 1000 horses, 5000 pigs, 5000 sheep; and I want a full staff to take care of it. On that ranch I want a 15 bedroom 30,000 square foot house with 2 friggin swimming pools. That oughta do for now, anything else I want, I can just buy, since I'm a billionaire and all."The genie said, "I can grant you that wish, but your wife..."Jimmy broke in, saying, "Yeah, yeah, yeah... she gets twice that... Whatever."The genie said, "You have but one wish remaining. Choose wisely."Jimmy didn't have to think a bit before he said, "I wish for you to make an aluminum baseball bat, and beat me half to death with it."1 point
