  2. A little update. The factory uses 2x4 bracing. I have routered out my own design. It centers on the woofer, to better center on the back and reduce vibrations.

  3. Completely without trouble may be really as far away as you say. For me it's in the country, my only complaint is someone may pass who could use a better muffler, it interrupts my music outside for a few seconds on occasion, it's tough but I'm dealing with it the best I can. I really hope you find a place with minimum trouble, it would change you. A city, any city to me, is trouble, I'm not one who wants everything close and convenient, I want it less populated and more private. I will drive to the city if needed. In case I don't get the chance to say it, Good Luck and be happy, happy should be #1, not much else really matters.

  4. it’s a place without trouble. Do you suppose there is such a place? There must be. It’s not a place you can go by boat or train. it’s far, far away. Behind the moon, beyond the rain.

  5. My vote is neither but with that choice, just do it as you always have, be yourself, well the yourself we know anyway. You talk like they don't have internet where you may land, well later after you adjust who knows. Now just so you know, we might not recognize the new adjusted you, but we will adjust.

These are lifetime memberships. There are 12 KhornCorps memberships available now with a possible 12 for future offering. A plaque designating these first members will be permanently displayed in the museum. In addition, we are offering some additional small perks Feel free to comment here and challenge others to join your commitment. 26. IMO you'd be safe deducting the difference between the amount "donated" and the published retail price. If adventurous, you could argue for a true market value below retail so that the claimed deduction could be greater, In any case, the reason to own these fantastic speakers is to support the museum, not for a tax deduction.

  27. Pardon me while I brag a bit. And speaking of mail-persons we received some letters today. BIG Congrats to my son who received his acceptance letter from Spohn Hospital today. He will be an accredited 'volunteer' for the summer. Application for cardiac unit assignment pending. Double duty on the congrats, he has also been accepted to his high school program where he will do double classes at the hospital next year; success equals LVN out of high school. He has been taking college level classes in high school, sits in on Texas A&M robotics courses and desires to be a cardiologist. More power to you son! Full steam ahead to med school!

  30. They sounded a little flat in my house hooked to the Yamaha. So I ordered some bob crites ct120 tweeters, a55g mid drivers, and new type A crossovers. I also sealed them to the wall with pipe insulation. I still didn't get the desired sound I was looking for so I just ordered a bob Latino st70 tube amp kit. I'm sure that will help fulfill the missing sound from the demo. I'll likely pull the Crites mids and tweeters back out and listen to them the way PWK intended me to for a while. I intend on converting my new Frankenstein decorators to a "B" cabinet with a riser. Also putting an exotic veneer on them. And more than likely closing in the backs like a 60th and 70th anniversary model. Luckily the finish job was done poorly enough that I think everything they added will peel right off. It currently is fitting quite loose. Which is a good thing to not have the original cabinet damaged by removal. Ill add more pictures later. I'm still getting used to this format and am in a limit cell service area to upload to Photobucket. All in all I'm very proud to have these speakers in my protection and intend to make them all they can be. I'm still a little upset about not recieving the beauties in the first picture though.

  33. That's what I'm talking about. You are in for a treat. I had the same exact dilemma as you....check out my Build Thread. I have TONS of photos showing the process I went through. Might give you some ideas for your room. I also have several videos of my HT and even the build process on my Youtube Channel. . I went from having my speakers in front of a 103" Elite Screen... To behind a 150" Seymour Centerstage XD AT Screen...

  34. For $95k I could buy a pair of stock Jubilees, get them veneered, and then use the remainder for a house to put them in. Volti's Vittora is a nice-looking speaker -- it looks like a Belle and a KHorn had a one-night stand. But a fully tricked out pair with the ELF cabinet will set you back $30k: I'd rather get a vintage pair of KHorns, refresh the crossovers and drivers, have them refinished, then biamp them and have equally good or better sound for around 1/3 of the price. Heck, I'd put my Fortes up against most $10k speakers and I've spent around $850 total on them.

  35. I just installed Windows 10 on the computer that had been handling my music server duties. Once that an my preferred audio program were installed, I tried it out. I was aghast! There was so much audio compression being used that all of my music sounded terrible. I went through all the settings on my audio program, but none of them were set to add extra compression. I googled Windows 10 and audio compression, but didn't get a lot of suggestions. So for a while, I inserted an older computer into the system to serve the music from the network drive. Later I found the Windows 10 sound panel and discovered that if I right click on my speakers (which is actually the audio out to my stereo system), and clicked 'properties', it brought up a new panel with four tabs. One of those tabs says 'Enhancements'. Clicking on that tab, I am presented with a list. On that list, only 'Loudness Equalization' was checked. I could also click 'Disable all sound effects'. I finally did the last option ('Disable all sound effects). WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! From un-listenable, to the music only slightly reconfigured by an equalizer. Anyhow, I thought I would present this info here in case others have had issues with Windows 10 making their music collection unlistenable.

  44. I'd do salt on Watermelon. Then again, I'd do salt on a salt-lick. My wife had me try cheddar cheese on a pear. The thought of it kind of grossed me out. I'm not a big Pear eater anyway....but to put cheddar cheese on top? (grated, not melted) Tried it and I have to admit, I went "hmmmmmmm" It wasn't as scary as I'd expected.

  45. Many good points here and nothing really sounds like bad advice, but yes you have to be careful with blanket statements, it's so easy to think what works for one person is good for all. Between the room and the recording alone this can throw in so many variances it's not funny. I think the general blanket habits of different models is ok as long as it's clear it's just some peoples opinion. Like a khorn doesn't really work correctly not tight in a corner or have sealed backs, a Cornwall seems to have more bass than a LaScala or Heresy but the latter appears tighter, the Rf line does have a slightly different sound than heritage, not better or worse, just different. Things like this does really help people decide what they want, we just have to be sure it's not one person's opinion which is out of line with general thinking. I have received help and advice with many things over the years which led me in the right direction and saved me from wasting money. I will say one thing that bothers me more than anything is when someone buys set of, let's say forte's and gets them home and ask about how to clean them up. No problem, until you get the post..........well after you clean them up you might as well change out all the diaphragms to titanium and get a new updated crossovers, plus tape some weights to the passive radiator to tune it lower and brace the inside of the cabinet more since your wiping them off. REALLY is something wrong with you, the guy never even plugged them in yet and has no idea what they sound like never hearing a forte before, and your going to suggest these things. It's just crazy, I feel like choking people when things like this are said...but I have to control myself. I know they mean well but give them a chance to know what they even have before sending them down that road. Good thread, it's good that everyone cares, really good. I say this because many here have helped me with good advice many times which stopped me from making mistakes and wasting money which I have none to waste.

  46. You have made some very insightful statement. The point of the thread was to hopefully get us to step back for a moment before recommending one speaker over another without more info. The room size thing is an old debate and others don't have to agree on A, B, and C. The point is that the room size is a consideration and just including that in the equation will go a long way. I am not for or against the Cinema line. They are just additional speakers in the arsenal to use. I do think room size applies in the thread you mentioned. The room is less than 2000 cu. ft. Post calibration the speakers may all be -12 and need attenuators, size and fit may be possible with smaller speaker and not compromise on SQ. The small room will be problematic in dialing in the bass. Sure traps and treatments can be used but, these things may not be needed with a different selection of speakers. I know you have heard a wider range of Klipsch various offering than I have. That is one reason I leave it to you and some of the other guys to tell people what the differences are between various speaker. My comment are usually along general guidelines and not specific in regard to one speaker on another. For the most part, I like them all for a certain application. I don't think anyone can easily find a post where I am putting down a particular speaker as sounding bad, poorly built, etc.
