This is an open letter I sent to the company today...I wanted to share here too. Happy Birthday Paul W. Klipsch! I would love to tell the old man that a few more times. I have been to a few of his birthday parties. I think my favorite one was his 96th. My wife at the time and myself were invited to visit them at a friend of theirs home in Hot Springs. We met with Steve and Becky Phillips there. They had just been to Hope for the first Pilgrimage and received the invite from Mrs. Valerie. Once we all were there, we ate, talked and listened. That’s right, we set and listened to Khorns with PWK on his birthday. In my book that has a supper high cool factor. Not long after that, Klipsch offered Steve a job and he and family moved up to Indy and I made a new best friend. I would like everyone to take a min. to think about their job and that PWK made that posable. We owe a ton to that man and I for one am very thankful. When Paul passed, I told Valerie that Gabriel needed help with his horn so they called Paul up to help. I look forward to hearing that horn someday. Trey Cannon – Systems Engineer3 points

Dang, glad you have patience and other Klipsch to get you through the wait. There is a Pony Express thread for members trying to hope out members in like situations. Sometimes it works for some. Think it is in the garage sale section FWIW. And as you may know already, sometime members give a shoutout when they are travelling with the room to spare.3 points

No doubt Mike, it's the old covers, like "Rocks" and "Free For All" I've kept. Now have two copies of those one with surface noise and degradation from thousands of plays, and one that I'll put my new cart down on.3 points

Not a problem, I've had a hard time letting go of ones I've replaced to get the good sound again!3 points

Well f me! That package of espresso pack with cups that I got for Christmas are whole beans, best if used by Feb 17. And get this, they are whole beans and not ground, as thought ad stated. Imagine my consternation at this turn. So, going to order a scale and a grinder and read here back pages to sort it out. Oh well, maybe it was when my eyeglasses(new) were in the mail. What else am I missing?3 points

Alright Mike, you've said again and again that Donald Fagans Nightfly sounded very good. You're right side one down and it is one of the most quiet records I've ever owned, even the party background in Ruby Baby is very clean. Both those guys were fanatics about their recordings and this is going in the Ss not the Fs. @Chad get in touch please we need to clear the cache under my profile or start over with a new name or something, haven't had email notifications since the first week of Jan. this time. the Flash put a bright moon on the cover!3 points

You have a call from headquarters--- "Headquarters, what's that?" It's a large building full of offices and people, but that's not important right now...3 points

Loudspeaker placement and/or acoustic treatments are necessary to get consistent 3D imaging. Time aligned speakers seem to help greatly, along with source material that has been recorded properly and/or mixed properly. The easiest way to get 3D sound is to use mini-monitor type speakers in a nearfield setup in a 6 or 7 foot equilateral triangle , away from the walls, facing forward with no toe-in. What I have found to be unnecessary are tube amplifiers, analog sources or fancy cables. I base my opinions on extensive experiments using a pair of old Boston Acoustics A150s I have had for over 30 years. I had them hooked to my TV but rarely used them and decided to play around with them. I hooked them up to a Crown XTi 1000 with some old 14 gage "speaker wire" I bought at the same time as the speakers. Source is a $179 OPPO DV 980H player. I played around with all sorts of configurations - speakers elevated, on the floor, with a riser in front, toed in and aimed various ways, against the walls, away from the walls, until I settled on the nearfield configuration described in the previous paragraph. Set up in this manner the 3D imaging is stunning, ranging from good to OMG, depending on the source material. These speakers are a 3 way design using 10 inch woofers, 5 inch midrange, and I inch soft dome tweeter. They are time aligned and have features designed to reduce cabinet diffraction. I have no idea what the crossover points are, sensitivity is 90 dB for 1 watt @1 meter, 80 watt recommended power, 8 ohm load. In the past I had found these speakers to be boomy with one note bass. Pulled 5 feet away from the wall the boom is gone and the imaging really pops. I can move the listening position towards the back wall to increase the bass without getting the boom, but imaging suffers past a certain point. There seems to be a sweet spot where it all comes together with fast, articulate bass that goes fairly deep and spectacular imaging. With about 200 watts "RMS" this little system will play far louder than I want to listen. The total new price for the speakers, amp and CD player is a tad over $1000, including the high end "speaker wire". My theory as to what is happening is when a loudspeaker is located away from any room boundaries it enables a person to locate the source of the sound in 3D space, and in the case of stereo, the stereo image also floats in 3D space. Any ensemble recorded acoustically will have instruments in the rear of the group acoustically delayed by a few milliseconds, which pushes the perceived image of that instrument back. Multitrack recordings achieve the same effect by delaying the channel that the mixdown engineer wants to move rearward by enough milliseconds to move the phantom image toward the back of the group, thus increasing the 3D effect. The reason time aligned speakers seem to image better is that they do not have the time smear from multiple arrivals interfering with the recorded delays that are critical for 3D imaging.3 points

This arrived today, a really cool Lego set from Parts Express!! This is the second sub that I'm adding of the same type. Won't be done for a couple of months yet, weather won't be good for painting until then. Can't wait to get it finished.3 points

I may be the pony express. If they find their way to Arkansas in May, I'll fetch them from there. Yeah, I have other Klipsch to listen to ... a pair of R15M. Kinda started at the bottom and trying to skip the in-between steps.2 points

I think that's one of Frank blacks greatest compositions... the thing about it is, since there is no lyrics, that the song sounds just as good played back at 33rpm as it does in it native 45rpm. I regularly listen to it both ways.2 points

Yes I think you will be happy with them. Actually made sense for me after the Chorus but, got offtrack with other Klipsch offerings. No regrets though with the KG's that have had and forte's, others. The physics in the end appear where I wanted to go all along. Larger! Hope you can get them back to your state soon... Edit: Every type of music have thrown at it from different sources all let me know what I have been missing. Versatile speaker...imo.2 points

Congrats, one suggestion and maybe you already know this. Give them a lesson for about six months before you try and mods. Please feel free to post some pics once you received them and have them set up in your room.2 points

If anyone gets curious on a piece of cast iron and finds one that is rusty.... don't fret, you can fix it! I bought a couple and made my own electrolysis tank to clean them in (didn't want to use chemicals) It was amazing to see how they came out. Cleaned them up one at a time, when removed, dried & seasoned them. Now if I were to be looking for a piece, I'd kind of keep my eye open for one with a lot of crud on it.2 points

I am fond of dedicated CD players and currently own a few and have owned some nice ones in the past. Here is a used CA 650C in Michigan for a nice price. I owned the 640C and would still own it if I had not gotten the 840C. http://www.usaudiomart.com/details/649370649-cambridge-audio-azur-650c-cd-playertransport-black-version/ Bill2 points
