  3. Well, the wall mount is necessary due to really bouncy floors! The home made shelf is necessary due to my poor shelf mounting skills! OMG, I hope Mike is OK after seeing that photo. He's very sensitive to poor craftsmanship. Cincy

  4. I think my setup changes faster than my signature!! I do like separate components as long as they play nice with each other. Cincy

  7. Nope, the Khorns are too sweet to let you mess them up again... My La Scala rig is for playing around. Sounds really good. All tubes and vinyl. Cincy

  12. Not really sure why but La Scalas seem to sound much better with SET tube amps. I went with a tube preamp too. Makes a nice sound in my small listening room. Want to add a TT to my Khorns. Bigger room should sound pretty good. However my digital stuff sounds really good through them now. Cincy

  15. It's possibly sacrilege in this vinyl thread, but I do play vinyl only once after the full Reg Williamson PVA & Cyastat anti-static treatment to be ripped to FLAC files in a single play on my hot-rodded Technics TT using a Denon DL-110 HOMC cartridge I got new from Amazon for $139 several years ago. Although it's not new, the cartridge has very few hours on it. It will outlive me. My preference for digital storage and playback should in no way be taken as criticism of vinyl. I love to find a classic record that is only available on vinyl in a used record shop, garage sale, etc., and then clean it, rip it and put it back in circulation for the next lucky collector. I confess, I do keep a few vinyl versions around, but mostly just to play for guests when the topic turns to vinyl vs. digital. Examples are, Kind of Blue, Timeout, and Thelma Houston & Pressure Cooker. If I just want to enjoy the music, I play the perfect digital copies of the freshly cleaned vinyl. No matter how many times I play them, they sound the same. The same can't be said of vinyl; playing vinyl subjects it to a slow death. IMO, vinyl recordings sound spectacular despite being vinyl, not because of it. YMMV

  17. Maybe a post in the "Pony Express" thread and/or the "Pilgrimage 2018" thread could find someone to haul them from Hope to Las Cruces.

  18. If you at least wanted to get them about 160 miles closer to you, I can pick them up and store them in my living room, I promise to keep them safe

  19. So far, we have me picking them up from your sister, bringing then to St Louis to hand them off to @MookieStl who will hand them off to @Opus who can get them to Hope on May 17th? Any leads from Hope going west? Will you still try this even if you don't a connection going west? Can they sit somewhere? I have been trying to get to the Pilgrimage for the last two years, but haven't yet. There's a chance I might make it this year, but I'm not sure yet. I started a new job last week, but I can take a day off if I need to. So there's a chance I can bring them to the Pilgrimage, but I can get them to St Louis pretty easy, it's only 4 hours away. Just trying to figure it out

  20. Nice and organized like. That amp looks sweet indeed. Like the isolation of TT up top. Interesting. Thanks!

  21. Lol, those are abit off of the path for me Mike. Have seen some deals closer to me. Both of those micro... and the Thorens have looked at for a good, to decent deal and found on craigs. Should have said am going to procure a couple of carts to X-periment with the sounds. Nothing like a TT for me. The BD20D is a good review for entry- to low mid. A $200+ table. It sounds good. What may happen is, I take a roadtrip. West side of Tallahassee is residence. with Miles and Cox...for sure.:

  22. If the baseball game works, that would be great, but if not, that's ok also. I don't want to risk not hooking up with someone just for a ball game. I was also hoping to pick them up at the Chicagoland meeting, but I don't think a date has been set. I measured the back area on my wife's Acadia, they will fit easily, you were correct. I would like to securely wedge them in for safety, don't want them wandering around the back seat.

  25. Remember when you got those LaScala's. Those do look nice! Have been wondering about the sensitivity and TT. Then remembering you ,Full Range and others spinning with LaScala. Guess I missed your going tubular. Encouraging... Cheers!

  27. Only weekend that seems to work for you guys is May 4-6 if @Ceptorman wants to work in a Cardinals game. Chances are good I will be traveling down I-44 that weekend from St. Louis on my way to Lake of the Ozarks. I may be able to take a leg of the journey. If you get them to me sometime early Friday the 4th, I can get them as far as Lebanon (not sure how far west on 44 you needed). Just giving you options. Everybody needs La Scalas.

  28. Old school TD-160 side 3, Miles of Aisles Dirtmudd, helped me make vinyl the star of my system. Thanks buddy! Cincy

  29. @Ceptorman Those are on their faces, due to the wing nuts attaching the bass bin mod ports. The tops are to the left. When traveling upright isn’t possible, I’d want them on their faces, even without the back ports. On their sides would be my last choice, which in this case was precluded by the handles.

  30. Thanks. Is there a preferred direction or side to lay them on? I see the cardboard, would that be better than blankets or packing material? I thought about using pillows or blankets to lock them into place.

  31. I just realized, they're not at Jim's, they're at Willybob's sisters. I guess if I'm that close, I'll have to stop and say "hey". Thanks. I have a truck also, but not a shell, hate to risk it with the weather. Was Jim spreading on the charm That's funny!

  34. I don't get to see many close-ups like that one, but it sure don't look very good! Last makes some pricy stylus cleaner, and I think that stylus tip needs a LOT of cleaning! OnZOW makes a sticky-pad type of stylus cleaner, too. Your cantilever also looks pretty grungy. I think I'd just get a new cart and be done with trying to clean it. The actual stylus tip is far too small to be able to see whether it's worn, even at that huge a magnification. Perhaps you can find some really strongly enlarged pictures online, where you'll see flat spots on the stylus tip that represent actual wear. However, some styli have very esoteric shapes like extreme ellipticals, and you may not be able to tell what's stylus wear versus an esoteric stylus shape. So, I'd just get a new cartridge. A lot of what you're hearing may be a gummed-up stylus suspension anyway. Try Needle Doctor if you need advice.
