  4. Yeah Neil I'm a bit anal about the listening environment. My bud bluesboy built the music room for me in 2006 and I recently repainted and uncluttered some (actually a lot). LF remarked yesterday how much larger the room looked (16'x23'x9'). Oztayls and I would probably get along fine and his room does look nice.

  6. This was one of my favorites in the Caribbean, Belikin, I asked about it and was told a bunch of Germans immigrated to Belize. He laughed and said you know how the Germans are they are going to brew beer whenever they are. Pretty darn good for $1.00 in a bar by the water.

  7. You're welcome at my place if you're through D/FW International any time. Yes, that's precisely what I was referring to: "realizable high fidelity". One is suddenly opening up to living in a glass house when making those sort of arguments, I think. They don't really make a lot of sense when you also look at high-priced DACs & turntables, very high priced passive active preamps, tube electronics, and other "audiophile-quality gear". That's the point that I was talking about. Jubs are probably the best decision that you can make for a very small listening room (of which the person that asked the question actually has more than a sufficient-sized one for Jubs in my estimation). [When you feel your knees banging on the Jub bass bins while being seated in your prime listening position, then I think it's time to consider headphones instead--but that's just my opinion on that subject ] The effect that you mention--that they sounded better as they were turned up--is usually due to the ratio of reflected to direct energy flipping over as the SPL goes up. That's very easily controlled using room treatments, but pretty limiting in terms of what you can say about the performance of the loudspeaker if it's not yet accomplished. That's why I commented. That's not a particularly good way to judge loudspeakers (of any sort) and certainly not at the performance level as Jubs, IME. IIRC, the pair that you heard were very newly installed--as mentioned in advance of your visit on this forum that I remember reading--and perhaps without room treatments/sufficient floor coverings and/or dial-in time (i.e., the owner mentioned more than once that he's pretty busy and presently that time is in short supply to tinker with them). I know about that situation as I had to learn about it myself over the years. That owner is also a member of this forum (...you remember, the guy who was kind enough to honor a request to hear them out of the blue). I recently saw the same thing occur on that exact situation happen over on the diyAudio forum recently (...and the owner's response detailed here.) The guy that did it (user:Joshcpct) is now "famous"... Chris

  9. Beer is very filling or bloating to me. Met a friend at an Irish Pub last week. Had one Guinness (properly drawn) and two IPAs. Felt like I had been to an all you can eat buffet. Like dtel.....it's the hard stuff for me.

  10. Why don't women drink beer at the beach? They're afraid they'll get sand in their Schlitz. (old joke)

  11. College days late 60's early 70's most of my crowd drank PBR or Schlitz. You could only get Coor's west of the Mississippi. Someone would occasionally bring a case back from their travels. Went to a bar in Greensboro, NC once that had 6 draft choices.......all Carling Black Label😐

  12. Didn't say I didn't drink plenty of it, he drove the truck not the brewing part of it, can't blame him, it was very popular at one time. Don't think I ever tried Blatz but most of the others. Of all of them, there were 2 I couldn't stand, Jax was brewed in New Orleans and terrible, and I can not stand regular Budweiser, still can't. But I rarely drink beer anymore, It messed me up. I can drink Tequila, whiskey, rum any of without a problem, 3+ beers and I get loaded, more than 3 and you would be laughing at me. Don't know why I use to drink beer, alot of it.

  13. The acoustic speaker cloth for the "One Buttons" arrived this morning so I was able to cover the frames I'd made over the weekend. The cloth is actually made from a woven fibreglass which has been coated with something to facilitate cleaning. It's fire rated too, which I had to test of course Blow me down, a butane torch wouldn't even set it on fire! The Russian made brass badges look pretty good, so overall, we're very happy with the result. The next job is to make the risers... Sorry, having trouble with uploading a pic right now. The file size is too big for forum rules I'll sort it soon...

  15. Got home about 1 am on a Saturday and neighbor across street was still up with a friend. Free moving help for me and of course they wanted to get em rocking right then. Just hooked up bass cab and they weren't too impressed. They went back home to finish drinking. lol Got em hooked up Sunday and they definitely rock. Did some adjusting on the preamp and rocked more. Daughter was in town so we had some fun for a few hours in the evening. Been busy ever since and am itching to get them going again. Rockhound was super and we had a good time the short bit for our visit. T2K thank you! Dave A, think i'll be skipping the Cornwalls and put the money towards a garage with theatre room. lol Thank you rockhound!

  20. Smart guy, you train well. Quite the collection you got going on, looks good. Schlitz was bad enough, I don't think the Malt Liquor would be drunk for taste but for effect. That Colt 45 ad was right "It works every time" Jax, now that is about the worst tasting beer I have ever had.

  21. @dtel It was Julio at the corner store that sold us the Schlitz Malt Liquor tall boys when we were all 14. It was a different world back then! Didn't know what real brew tasted like for a few years then had a Bud from Jax.

  26. The problem with Corona is the bottle. It is clear. People call beer "skunked" for all sorts of reasons. Air in a keg, warmed up, warmed up then cooled down. Skunked is a process by which light interacts with the hops and makes an actual skunky sort of funky. To be skunked it must be exposed to light, nothing else. Whatever is in a brown bottle filters out that particular spectrum (too lazy to google it) of light better than clear or green. The lime negates the skunk somewhat. Most lagers in the Caribbean can trace their roots to German styles. They are all very much the same. Go get some Corona in a can (not light struck), Red Stripe, Sol, Pacifico and dozen others. Blind it will be as difficult as determining Bud Light, Coors Light and Miller Lite....almost nil. People that say they can tell Bud Light form Miller Lite are fooling themselves into remembering a bad night in high school or advertising hype.

  27. === not being a big drinker on any level I have little to say but same as Dtel I do much better drinking liquor over beer. A couple three beers and I’m near my limit, maybe it’s the carbonation that gets me drunker, quicker. And ive yet to understand what has made Corona the best selling imported beer, other than that stellar ad campaign and decent commercials. I mean really, if you must slip a quarter slice of lime into the bottle how good can it be. Without the lime, to me, its nothing more than swamp water. I enjoy a a darker beer and generally buy Shiner Bock. If not Shiner the KC brewed Boulevard Wheat is a tremendous beer that has near national distribution at this point. Although they were bought by the Belgium brewer Duval absolutely nothing has changed in their quality and purpose other than funding for expansion and further development.

  29. Totally agree with that. I don't drink Coors Light because it's some great tasting beer, it's what I drink when there's a party going on or I'll be working outside or in the shop for a long period of time and want to have some adult beverages without getting bloated or obliterated.

  30. I am pretty sure they were the AK-6. They definitely had the new tweeters in them which looked very different than K-77s. Sounded pretty good sitting in the middle of a big room which surprised me. It sounded to me that just Lilly's vocals were played through the Khorns and the guitars only through her amp. At least that's how it sounded to me. The fit and finish on all the new Heritage were beautiful, especially those Khorns. Works of art. We spoke to the Klipsch folks for awhile........nice guys. Georgia Home Theater is pretty big time. They have a huge facility (two actually) with probably 10 or more listening environments in the Marietta venue. All treated. A fleet of about a dozen GHT vans out back providing mobile service. They said a lot of their business is home networks, security, automation, lighting, as well as theaters and audio. Fun night. Lilly Winwood has a great voice and at 23 years old is actually a pretty funny story teller. Heavy British accent. Coffee House type of performer that can hold an audience's attention. Probably 40 or so in attendance.

  35. At first, it does seem to make sense, but when it comes down to it no matter how you stream it, it does NOT sound or look as good as a disc. For things you really like a disc can't be beaten. This has been my experience streaming regular moves and a few demo videos in 4K and the WIFI had no problems.
