  1. Been Lurking for some time now. I had a lower end system that I bought about 13 years ago. And because of this forum I decided it’s time for a new system. I keep hearing (reading) all great things about the Forte III. Earlier this week I made a 6 hour round trip to listen and possibly buy some Forte III. After just a few minutes of listening I knew these were the ones. Even my wife was impressed and she usually doesn’t care about stuff like this. Then of course i had to get a new receiver so I decided on a Denon AVR X3500H (plenty of a receiver for me). This system will hopefully last me a very long time. Next will be a new tv. My tv is about 15 years old but we don’t watch enough tv to justify getting one any time soon. We have never had cable or satellite. We do occasionally rent a movie. We just have music as background noise 24/7. Anyways thanks to this forum for leading me in the right direction. I’m giving my old system to my son. He just got his first apartment and is very excited. 😜 Old system: Pioneer 5960, Synergy F2’s, RC52 and a couple of Klipsch 12”sub.

  3. I'll second that! Brother Mike, Thank You! I'll have to rag on you much, much more when you quip negatively about the Zeppelin! No wonder you asked "How's it sound?" And yea I have had a little Genesis since before the radio burned me out on Phil... went through a pop phase...even had "Thriller" recorded for a while until I recorded Dio or someone like that over it. This LP makes for a nice (mysterious) evening, side 4 coming up on the AKG soon!

  11. I finally got my Moondogs back. They were burned in for about 3 days. All of the caps have been replaced. All of the sockets and pin holders have been tighten. The technician told me that according to the schematic, two resistors were wrong. R10 was suppose to be 2K not 1K and R13 was suppose to be 1.8K not 1K. Other then that they sound incredible! The longer they are burned in, the better they get. Sonically, they sound better then before. They cost me a total of $450 for parts and labors. I am extremely happy with the sound. Here are photos of both amps.

  12. Sure, it aids to the Darwin theory, it starts with a few fingers and sooner or later you can't even light them anymore with no fingers. And with real explosives it just speeds up the whole process. Just like driving 100 mph or drugs and many other things you accept the risk or be smart enough to not do it, but that line in between is tricky and don't forget the hold my beer and watch this group. Have to say at different times I have fallen into a few of those groups.

  13. Hard working people go bankrupt from medical bills. It is not as simple as what you portray. We are already paying for healthcare, for the hard working and the indigent. Why allow the wealthy corporations to create indigence out of the hard working? Why not have a better system, one that combines the best of other systems which would lead the world?

  14. @oldtimer yea, the first iteration. Second was all for me before the thousandth time I heard a solo certain singer's song on fm! I'm talking way more than Stairway... or Freebird played ... counting both of them together.

  15. Storm is headed NW at 5 mph, Carl, better keep an eye open. If it were to go a little more West it would slide right across Louisiana into Texas. It's nothing now but with a few more days in the Gulf it might become something. Probably won't happen but who knows

  17. just want to uodate this thread... got my 2a3 amp already and boy it does not disappoint! now i know what it sounds like when they say youll be surprised what a few watts can do. its still in the break in period but it sound good already. though the bloom is still not there but the voice... the voice.... its like they are just right in front of you. comparing it with my kt120 amp, the kt120 feels like its too excited to show off but your trying to hold it down. the highs sometimes goes too high but the lows and the thump are really there. while the 2a3 is like the guy in your neighborhood who takes his time walking like his not in a hurry and appreciates everything he see's around him. everything seems to he balanced listening to the 2a3. its so quite that theres very little to no hum at all. the details and nuances are more pronounced in tye 2a3 amp. probably it is because of the sensitivty of the speakers as well. its easy to be driven thats why when im using the kt120, the hum is more evident compared to the 2a3. also the kt120 is much louder its like even playing at the same volume level, the kt120 feels like its shouting while the 2a3 is just telling you a good story. Its not a night a day difference but the 2a3 is just dead silent and clean. what more if its totally broken in. maybe if i pair the kt120 with a speaker that has an 85db or 87db probably it will sound much better since itll be flexing its muscles to move those woofers in and out... I will be replacing the 6n3c with kt66 and the 5u4gb with 274b and hope they will sound nicer. thanks guys for all the replies....

  19. you might be surprised #1 is the car already. They just fit. I did a lot of measuring before attempting this. Damn! Going to all that effort was somewhat wasteful if you didn't also wire them into the radio for some mobile entertainment.

  21. What do you mean about circulation? It is easier to keep similar time alignment with the drivers vertical than side to side. Any positioning move in the horizontal plane will change the frequency response much more than in the vertical, which they were designed for.

  28. I would have only had to drive an hour each way but I'm evidently much lazier than you. I ordered mine without an audition. I'm completely pleased with my purchase. You didn't show the box labels. Which "flavor" did you get?

  29. Lookie what I did. It started out an ADC arm with a fixed head shell and a broken wire. It is now a removable head shell without a broken wire. It is now better than when it was new.

  30. Haha....every year people get killed, fingers blown off, eyes hit, and that's by the regular fireworks. Can you imagine if it was legal to have real explosives?
    2 points
  31. All these pesky regulations, you can't buy it from the feed stores anymore. If you could it would sure put a dent in local fireworks sales for the 4th and new years eve, it's a conspiracy by the fireworks people I tell ya. There forcing the locals to go all DIY.

  35. completely redone in mirror finish piano black lacquer, reused all original parts including cabinets which turned out to be much more work than anticipated due to all the warpage and cupping of 35 year old wood.

  36. Sorry to say that I wouldn't touch that needle the first time to a record I valued, certainly not a brand new one. Start with a record from the "not entirely glad I bought it" section of your stash and see how it does. The stylus tip could be all jagged for any of several reasons and it might damage whatever it's tracing.

  37. Hey, you were the first one to brandish the word "wife"! Hahaha First, at the first mention of Crutchfield you said they mentioned "soundstage" and as I and others have suggested, you'll really only get any kind of real soundstage with the speakers placed as shown if you use Ohm Walsh or something maybe like Bose 901s which evenly splash the sound all around. Perhaps you could develop soundstage (to speak of) with electrostatic or planar dipoles, I can't say for sure. As you already know, the system can sound good enough like that but it really won't develop an enveloping 3D sonic image in the room. I imagine the Wharfdales sound nice, and Polk generally do too. It seems nobody's stopped by who can really tell you what you want to know, yet. Certainly not me. All I can say is in a lively room I believe speakers with a fair amount of directional control would fare better than those which splash sound all around haphazardly. Klipsch generally believes in that tenet to my knowledge. But I'm unfamiliar with those of the line you mentioned. I say get you some Klipsch and go as big as you can afford. A sub might be nice but if you have to go with a smaller pair to do so, then spend the money on a bigger pair. A sub isn't nearly as important for music, especially that which is mixed to sound good in a car or through earbuds, as it is for sound effects in film. Call Cory at https://paducahhometheater.com/ and see what he says and what he can do for you in the way of equipment. He's very much more than reasonable.

  39. Haha! "Easily mobile" perhaps in comparison to say Cornwalls or the models with bass horns, but 70# each ain't exactly as portable as even a "portable" 19" CRT tv was (I always got a chuckle out of that term). I toted my Forte IIIs through the garage, kitchen, and dining room, then down the stairs (in their boxes, and of course singly) by myself, but the remaining number of days I'll be able to do that are most likely a small fraction of the grand total I'll have had with that capability.

  44. - dog house is not removable only the cover is removable. - the ring you mention would be for use with woofers with a long throw to prevent the woofer from impacting the motor board. - Klipsch can sell you parts. the least expensive way for you to obtain horns and drivers would be on the used market place. There are better horns out there both by Klipsch and others. There is much information on diy La Scala speaker projects in the forum archive you might care to look there.

  45. To really get the most out of your FM antenna, you must use a rotor so you can direct it at the station in question. I use a FM 6 antenna mounted on a rotor and can hear stations clearly 90 miles away.

  46. @glens Well, I realize it is less than perfect that way, but that is where my Vegas are and they actually sound pretty good, so I think this should sound at least as good, better I assume since these are better speakers. I recently took an "are you an Audiophile" test, and I only got 3 or 4, so I will confess I am probably not as discerning as some ... Getting a thumbs up from my wife is more important to me actually being able to get them than having them positioned perfectly (but resulting in non wife pleasing aesthetics) since they are going in "her" living room.
