  1. No. The opening is sealed by the bottom panel. Filling that opening with a 3/4” piece so as to make it flush with the rest of the “floor” of the doghouse is totally unnecessary. It would result in a minuscule reduction of the interior volume of the doghouse with no effect on performance. As PWK would say, not a dime’s worth of difference. The foregoing is my opinion. YMMV

  4. Whatever Sunfire calls it, it takes the signal straight from the cartridge and amplifies it out to the speakers. Subwoofer is not in my system since the forte IIs handle bass besides lowest octave organ music just fine. I don't listen to lowest octave organ music.

  5. Been a while since I've had my RX-1100. It did what my newest amp does... tone bypass. Glad it still powers the subwoofer.

  6. I was just thinking about that, and I’ve been thinking about it for a few months. However, my thinking is going the other way. Now, I listen to the music, not to how the system sounds. I don’t select the music that often, maybe a few times a week. The rest of the time, I listen to a handful of stations on Net Radio. I’ve found some stations that have better taste than I have, so I get to listen to new and interesting music that way. The main thing is that now I have confidence that when I roll up the volume to listening level (I leave it on all the time now, just rolling down the volume very low when I go to bed or go out. I was leaving the amps on all the time, as per recommendation from a Yamaha rep, but he said that with receivers, the issue is falling brightness of the display if it’s on all the time. The simple workaround for that is to switch to Pure Direct, which shuts down everything not needed for 2-channel sound production, in an effort to eliminate any kind of interference or noise from unused circuits. This includes all video circuits, all DSP or other processing circuits, and the display. It goes dark, and stays dark until you adjust the volume or change the input, when it brightens momentarily to let you see what’s happening, then goes dark again.), the music will sound great. Sure, I still have to get around to tweaking the processor a bit to suit the new drivers, and the subs need to be dialled in to the room, but even so, the music sounds great. That’s what matters, right? I no longer hear that little voice trying to speak up over the music, saying “Sure that sounds okay, but if you do this, that or the other (or worse, this, that, and the other), it will sound so much better.” Now, I just hear a voice sometimes that says, “That’s a great song. Turn it up!”

  8. A little change of subjects and maybe a tiny bit of whining. I'm listening to less and less music yet I have two complete systems and some pieces of gear weren't cheap. If I had more energy I would box it all up and sell it for pennies on the dollar.....but there is that energy thing. On top of that I find myself playing the same media choices because it makes my gear sound better. I think I like gear or the promise of gear better than I like music. Gear head? Ever experience that? Will the next generation systems be able to multitask? Like mix a drink or make toast or maybe give you a hair cut while playing in a godda davita? Hope so.......... Till then I'll play Cristofori's Dream by David Lanz for the foreseeable future. At least it sound good.

  12. Thanks, I was not aware of this....so basically I made and enjoyed a variation of a Moscow Mule, who knew. You would have to use a LOT of lime to detect it in this stuff.

  13. Gin works! Up for a Moscow Mule? Dark & Stormy? I prefer the Mule. A Moscow mule is a cocktail made with vodka, spicy ginger beer, and lime juice, garnished with a slice or wedge of lime. It is a type of buck, therefore sometimes called a vodka buck. A Dark ’n’ Stormy is a highball cocktail made with dark rum and ginger beer served over ice and garnished with a slice of lime. Lime juice and simple syrup are also frequently added. The original Dark 'n' Stormy was made with Gosling Black Seal rum and Barritt's Ginger Beer.

  18. I have a bunch of these, some store years ago wanted to get rid of them and almost gave them away. I opened one and never finished it in years. It may be very similar to what your talking about, it is black and thick as tar, it can hardly be spread on it is so thick, but it stays in place and seems to work.

  21. Things worked in a deal and I now own a pair of black satin version 1 CF-3's and they sound awesome. I've missed Epic sound since selling my others a few years back but now I'm happy once again. These and my ads L1230's are all the speakers I care to keep around anymore. At some point this fall, I'm going to strip the black off and re-veneer them in something like cherry, walnut, or mahogany; or maybe something else. They're easy enough as it's only tops and sides. Not really worrying about crossovers, bracing cabinets, etc. These seem to be solid and I won't touch them unless they have a glue issue like my other pair did. Next thing I may be pondering is a different amp to go with this wall of stuff. I like the Onkyo Reference preamp but thinking about more power. Thought about an Adcom GFA-5802 which is 300wpc and also a MC7270, but, that one goes a little above my pay grade. Here's the standard obligatory picture. Just a basic setup anymore.

  24. OK; just had to share my story ... maybe someone will "learn" from this Got some new equipment - an Oppo BDP-83SE and "other" stuff. (Old Oppo's tray would not come out ... yes; tried replacing the belt ... haha, really broke it in the process.) Hooked up the Oppo "Special Edition" with superior (?) analog audio. Put in a CD and sound was excellent on my CF-3's and JBL 2446 horns. Was comparing it to my other Denon CD player. So; hooked up the Oppo to my TV via HDMI and tried a DVD. NO AUDIO from my system; only from the TV Tried changing settings such a HDMI-audio "off." NADA, NOTHING OK, when in doubt read the (76 page) manual. Some tips in there, but NO;NOTHING. Was ready to give up (for the day). Then I noticed my Denon was still "powered on." Next I looked at my preamp ... SOME IDIOT (yes, me) had forgotten to switch the input to the Oppo Don't tell anyone Cheers, Emile

  32. Tricksters, they are! Well you could always go the beach and throw them to the seagulls. Never tried it but they say after they eat one they will pop. I wish it would work on squirrels.

  33. My mistake. Thanks for the correction. In any case, the idea was to double the recommended dosage, strictly to make more money. Just like the shampoo rinse-and-repeat recommendation, but nearly everyone ignores that one.

  41. Yeah, one time when I ordered ginger beer to go with my fish ‘n chips, I took a big sip, and went, “What? This is beer!”. It took me by surprise, since I hadn’t heard of ginger-flavoured beer before. We have lots of local brewpubs here, so if you can imagine it, somebody is probably brewing it as we type. Another time, I got the “hard” ginger beer, which tasted better to me than the ginger-flavoured beer, but for me the ginger is enough kick for my mouth. I don’t need alcohol on top of it.
