  4. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that no, nobody has modified their Cornwalls to use an XLR connector as those are normally used for balanced line level connections. as mentioned above, if you want a quick disconnect for easy set up and moving of your system, install some Neutrik speakon connectors. They feature a positive twist locking mechanism which is quick and easy and ensures your polarity is correct(as long as your speaker cables are initially wired correctly). They also come in 2 and 4 conductor versions so you could run a single cable in a bi-amp type of setup. But, if you aren’t moving things around that much you might as well go with a good set of modern binding posts.

  5. Lou Reed's Coney Island Baby is a fine sounding album. No big hit songs here, but Coney Island Baby sounds familiar. And then of course, there's the song that could have been written about myself: "I am just the gift to the women of this world!" ;-))

  6. Here's a 'first timer' in the last week of 2021... There is a censor-BLEEP in the first track of Johnny Cash At San Quentin. Fact: the show was being recorded for television broadcast. 🤐 IMPORTANT UPDATE This album is MONO and sounds amazing! Except for the censored cursing, the song introductions are real fun to listen to! What a great person, Johnny Cash!

  8. I'm never too old to learn... Didn't know anything about this. Seems like Reed lived in 2021 back in the early 1970s... On Lou Reed's Coney Island Baby: - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coney_Island_Baby: The album has been described by Anthony DeCurtis as "perhaps the most romantic album of Reed's career".[1] Many of the album's songs were inspired by and dedicated to Reed's girlfriend and muse at the time, a trans woman named Rachel Humphreys.[2][3] According to Aidan Levy, Coney Island Baby was "as much a love letter to Rachel as it was to the nostalgic Coney Island of the mind."[4] Rachel Humphreys was muse and lover to musician Lou Reed.[1] Their relationship has been described as seminal. Humphreys inspired lyrics, songs and artwork and accompanied him on tour during the mid-1970s.[2] Raised in Bridgeton, New Jersey and San Antonio, Texas, Humphreys was of Mexican Native descent.[3] and was striking looking and tall. Humphreys was a trans woman and they met at a nightclub in Greenwich Village in New York[4] Reed was instantly attracted and they lived together as a couple. Their relationship, which lasted a few years between 1973-1977, is not well documented, but Humphreys is widely recognised as being the inspiration for the songs on the album Coney Island Baby. [5] Together they explored the boundaries of gender roles. Humphreys used both male and female pronouns at different times and both Reed and Humphreys enjoyed wearing each other’s clothes.[3] Humphreys' role in Reed's life is subject to continuing interest from music and popular culture journalists.[6][3] Humphreys died of AIDS in 1990 age 37[7] at St. Clare's Hospital, New York City.[3]

  15. Lascala’s are unique speakers and require special attention when using a subwoofer. The absolute worst thing that people do when running a sub with Lascala or Klipschorn is to cross them over at 90 hz or even lower. Lascala’s have tremendous slam and snap in the lower bass range that almost no subwoofer can match (104 db 1 watt/ meter). The solution is to run your Lascala’s full range , and run your sub in augmentation mode , pulling augmentation away at 60 hz or so. The last thing that you want to do is attenuate the glorious Lascala bass , use every bit of what they offer .Try it🤓

  16. Apparently there has been some equipment made over the years where an XLR connector was used for amp to speaker connections. However, speakon connectors have a better surface area on the connection and are rated at something like 30 amps and are a much better choice nowadays if you need a quick disconnect.

  23. I just got The Apollo Murders by Chris Hadfield, the Canadian astronaut. I’m looking forward to reading it, even more because my daughter gave me the hardcover version. I’ve come to really prefer reading hardcover books, since it gives a more luxurious reading experience, and the books will often sit open when you set them down. Chris spent months on the ISS and was the mission chief in Houston, so I’m sure he’ll get every technical detail right. Now to find out if he can imagine and write a great action thriller!

  32. Okay guys they are Forte 1s. It is a three and a half hour drive over there so it is an all day deal with 7 hours in the car. The owner gave me an even better price so I'm tempted to drive over there and grab them but again I don't want to be disappointed and I have to change out for chorus later. Still have to punt my KG4s. I paid $400. They are flawless and in the original box but the sound is not there. If I end up dreaming about the chorus speakers then I will have to sell the fortes too. And then there is the extra stereo equipment still hanging around my house that I don't use. McIntosh xr16 speakers, Jolida tube amp with issues, Yamaha integrated amp that needs to be redone. I'm pretty good at buying but not so good at selling

  33. Actually it was me that didn’t explain it clearly. Looking at crossovers independently without realizing that it is part of closed system is the only way to get to the acoustic response that we are designing for…..ultimately that is what your ears hear and that determines the quality of the sound.

  38. The sidewalls my Khorns are located to are 17'9" in width. I haven't tried a phantom center with this setup, as it was suggested earlier that my front stage is too wide for that. I realize 2 channel listening isn't the same, but damn it has a center image that is amazing! I can't raise my TV unless I put the stand mount on it and sit it on my, yet to be made, TV console. I am in the process now of eliminating all my Emotiva amps. They work great, but just so big and heavy. I've recently heard Jeff Rowland amps and am now in the process of selling my future grand children to replace all my Emotiva gear. 2 Jeff Rowland 201 mono blocks arrived today to start the madness. I also found someone local to me that as an integrated that will work into the new setup and handle 2 more channels. Isn't home theater/2 channel listening fun! With the smaller footprint amps, I can gain some room under the TV. I might possibly be able to DIY a chopped up La Scala into a center. Hmmm...

  39. It was only a few years ago that I realized that speaker designers would do that for their direct radiator designs. Crossover points were matched with the polars of the separate components for more even coverage at all frequencies.

  41. Coffee finished, bacon and blueberry pancakes down the hatch. Anyone watching the Memorial Tournament? Interesting conclusion to yesterdays round. Jon Rahm with a 6 stroke lead and looking unstoppable disqualified after testing positive for Covid! He was told as he came off hole 18. Time to walk the Swankster and then watch This Old House (as I have done for 30 years or more). Happy Sunday gents.........
