  3. Bootlegs... Recently I seem to have a faible for them. The White Album I got two weeks ago and today I got another from YES, YES Live in London. And another one from Frank Zappa, just forgot the title, you´ll see it soon.

  4. Yuuuup! On its release, Wish You Were Here received mixed reviews from critics, who found its music uninspiring and inferior to the band's previous work. It has retrospectively received critical acclaim, hailed as one of the greatest albums of all time, and was cited by keyboardist Richard Wright and guitarist David Gilmour as their favourite Pink Floyd album. Alan Parsons, EMI staff engineer for Pink Floyd's previous studio album, The Dark Side of the Moon, declined to continue working with them due to him starting his own group and working on their first album.

  8. The kickstarter site is legit. I've used it before and it works safely. I just talked to the local High School librarian and told her I was donating a copy for the kids. In return, she's going to search for anything PWK provided the school with. I saw one and used it for a book report about 1964. New school and she doesn't know what was trashed in the move but she's looking and going to provide me w/anything she has. Going to send it down to Jim Hunter and let him have it and eyeball. I'm sure he'd love to eyeball what you have. Xerox maybe? It's a one-time shot on the book so ... ...Pay it forward! We're on the way out anyway. 😂😂

  9. Dave Mallette turned me on to Conlon Nancarrow, a brilliant man who did crazy stuff with player pianos. He changed tempos and keys, all kinds of weird stuff. This is an arrangement of one of his pieces performed by a sextet. I am pretty sure any out of sync video is due to using multiple cell phones for the video. It's really hard to get everything lined up.

  17. YES. To tell you the truth I had no idea what Kickstarter is. And that this was actually about a very nice bound book, not just the Dope From Hope Newsletters complied sort of like my notebook bound copy. I finally got curious enough to look into this further and glad I did otherwise I would have missed the deadline.

  18. Wanted to drop some weight off my trailer, so I ordered an aluminum one a few months back and picked it up in South Dakota on a family trip out to Nebraska this past weekend. It drops 700 lbs compared to the other one I have and is easier to use.

  19. That's just what I used to do, it was the old type original T amp, they are better now I am sure. The original T amp said 10 wpc but really went downhill quick after half volume. a car battery would last for days. With the old T amp about 1/3 to half volume (before distortion) It was a little over 100 db at 100' outside. I know what you are going to try is different than what I was doing back then, but car audio will surprise you. I use a Pioneer Supertuner out in the bar with some Heresys, more power than needed out there. I decide to use a car radio for being tough, it's under a roof but still, fog, dampness and temperature changes over the last 5 years and still going strong. This pic is from 2008, back when they still had Sony Walkmans around. Those little things and a car battery was all that was needed.

  26. Hi folks of the forum and beyond! It feels great to be able to say that our Kickstarter campaign for the Dope From Hope is live 👀 Watch the mini documentary film and get the full story at the link above. The first-ever Dope From Hope book will only be available via Kickstarter for the next 30 days. For those unfamiliar, they are the largest crowdfunding platform with a special audience for book projects like this one. The project is about five years in the making, run by yours truly and my partner, Paul Raffaele, with the full support of the board at the Museum 🥰 Any questions, comments, etc ~ you know where to find me!

  27. Inspired by dtr20, I made a K700 lamp, of my own. I used a die-cast K700 I'd bought for a stillborn monitor project. I had a friend turn a pair of adapters for the horn's throat and then cannibalized an old lamp a GF gave me 40 years ago. The base is mahogany, bought in Chattanooga, planed in Huber Heights and finished with linseed oil at mi casa. I could not see the figure in the grain until after it was planed and had to work a little to show it in the finished lamp. The plaque was a gift from Hunter @JRH at the first pilgrimage, called "The Klipsch Fans Tour Of Hope". I kept it in my Klipsch file folder for over 20 years until i found this use for it! I hope Mr. Paul's soul gets a smile.

  31. I think 20W @ 1% distortion, so it might be 25W before clipping. Something like that. There's no feedback so it clips very softly with rising distortion but not harsh clipping. Glad to know they are working for you! Cheers!

  33. While I can't recall specific deals, I've always wanted to ask the question-do you often feel like you want to be a Klipsch Savior? What I mean is; you see Klipsch speakers on the secondary market at a good price and feel you want to buy them for no other reason that the price is good? Of course, you'd wind up with more speakers than you could possibly listen to. While I haven't succumbed to the urge, I continue to surf the popular web sites just to see what the good buys are and I'm while I'm tempted to buy, I live to close to common sense!

  36. I bought a set of Quintet IV speakers as they were on a pretty good discount. I really liked the small form factor as I don't have a ton of space in my apartment. The only downside is that they don't use standard 1/4" mounting points and big heavy duty speaker floor stands seem like overkill (as well as being pretty expensive). I needed a way to put the surround speakers at head level behind my couch without punching holes in the wall. So I ordered a pair of those very cheap Monoprice metal speaker stands that are meant for small speakers weighing less than 5lbs (pictured below in their stock configuration). They normally attach with a 1/4" screw, but I decided to utilize them a different way. I quickly designed and 3D printed little platforms that slide over top of the metal poles. Then for a bit of stability, I stuck the speakers down with double-sided 3M Command Strips. Here's the downloadable design on Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5177715 I'm just posting this because I had searched around a lot - seeking inexpensive, slim floor stands for these speakers and didn't have much luck. My hope is that if somebody else goes searching like I did, they may find this useful. Of course it does require that you, or someone you know, has a 3D printer.

  38. As a follow-up to my thread, I ended up getting a pair of 1977 Cornwalls and I’m very happy with them. I’ve been experimenting with room placement and I feel like I’ve really got them dialed in now; fantastic sound and my 18 watt Fisher X-100 can drive them to ear-splitting volumes if needed. The bass response is amazing- solid down to 30Hz in the room. Really happy with the purchase.

  44. The bus that is used on the PS1, PS2, and PS3's are all the same interconnects. What is different is this is one of the unique situations where the cabling matters. Another thing you need to remember is that the PS1 was not built for any kind of digital output. It used its own onboard DAC for everything. The 1001 had the benefit of being able to accept cabling that was larger than the 22GA RCA interconnects that were typically used as well. Sony saw a marketing opportunity and took it by using the unified bus A/V cabling. The only thing the PS1 had going against it was the disc tray which was notorious for chewing up discs (the 2nd and 3rd generation PS2's also did this, it's why I got rid of my slim). Fortunately by the time they came out with the slim PS3's they used a soft-tip spindle instead.

  46. Hi all! Barbie and Paul here who are behind the Kickstarter campaign launching on January 31st 2023. Very excited about the prospect of this book coming to life, as it's been a long time in the making. First conversations started around 2018, and in 2019 we traveled to Hope to visit the Museum, talk to everyone involved, and officially pitch the project. We were all set to launch the 30 day campaign in March of 2020, just two days after the US went into lockdown. As you can imagine, it was a big blow to put it on hold, but it felt best to not dive in to such precarious waters. Now, almost 3 years after our original date, we are fully ready to launch! The past two years were not easy, considering all the supply chain disruptions in which the cost of paper skyrocketed. Things are feeling back to quasi-normal in the publishing world, and with renewed interest in how we listen at home, we feel this is the perfect time. The book will only be available as a preorder via Kickstarter from January 31st for 30 days. Because Kickstarter is an "all or nothing" platform, if we don't get funded, the book won't get made. We are setting out to print 1000 copies, which will be the first-ever book putting together the full collection of Dope From Hope, plus words by Jim Hunter and Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy. The book will feature high resolution scans of the newsletters, plus never before seen materials and drafts. It will be a beautiful cloth hardcover, foil stamped, coffee table book size. For those not on social media, you can sign up for updates in two ways: - On the Dope From Hope website, where you'll hear from us directly leading up to and on launch day: https://www.dopefromhope.com/ - On the Kickstarter Preview Page, where you'll be notified by Kickstarter once the project is live: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1243483657/the-dope-from-hope-book Our campaign page will feature a short video explaining the journey to date but we can't reveal that just yet. We can share a rough mockup of what the book will look like, though final design may be tweaked, the parameters won't change much. For those who already signed up for updates on dopefromhope.com or on the campaign itself, there's nothing to do for now but hang tight! We are rolling out some exclusive archival material straight from the Klipsch Museum of Audio History's archives on social, for those who dabble in it. If you have any questions for us, from who we are to why we're doing this, we'd be happy to answer! Our Klipsch journey is quite unconventional and always makes for fun stories. Thanks for reading! Barbie and Paul
