  1. Picked these up from https://paducahhometheater.com/ at a great discount. About $3500 to my door. So far, the sound has impressed me. I do like the metal grill as that makes them cat proof.

  2. Here then is the livingroom vibe. I use a laptop on the glass table between the two loveseats for streaming via blue tooth into the Bang and Olufsen gear. Fun, fun, fun , time to give the new 'Big Fudge' record cleaning system a spin with some vinyl listening. Enjoy your music my friends

  3. Thanks for the likes! I decided to make yet another change. I will take a photo a bit later. If you look to the front left corner, you can see an antique corner display stand behind the audio system. I moved that out for the first time in 17 years! I moved the audio rack into that corner, and I just ordered a new, minimalist, industrial floor lamp that will shed light over the turntable! This is a same day delivery from Amazon and should be here sometime this evening. Once I get that in place, I will send that new photo along and see what you all think. Thanks for your interest .

  4. Good Wednesday morning friends. Dark, rainy day today here in my state, with lots of flooding going on EAST of here. Anyway, Amazon stopped by yesterday and dropped off a new accessory! I have always loved my D3 - D4 Diskwasher system, but I got tired of carting it between two floors for listening to the different systems. So, I located this product which is VERY similar, right down to the real wood handle. This will stay with the U-Turn custom in the livingroom. I also re-arranged the room a bit and I will share photos for you to take a look at. Meanwhile, here is the new record cleaning system, with stylus brush, and storage pouch etc.

  8. That’s what I initially thought, but when it comes to the mixing engineer, and to a lesser extent the mastering engineer, there is a debate going on right now as to what if any impact the acoustics of the rooms where this is done (control room of studio, or smaller dedicated mixing room, or even a home studio) and the monitors used result in better/worse overall recordings. Floyd Toole discusses this as part of his Circle of Confusion, in his book and his presentations, and he has been advocating for standards for both room acoustics and studio monitors. However, he says that more research needs to be done. Sean Olive has also written about this, and the topic pops up at AES from time to time as to whether standards would improve the overall quality of recordings. As I say, it’s a matter of debate at AES, the Academy of Recording Sciences and elsewhere as to what, if any impact standards would have.

  9. My buddy has some big Sansui receiver and told me it was blown. He wasn't getting anything to his speakers. Seems as though he had a habit of cranking it with the "loudness" button pushed in when he was trashed. Had to have that boost. lol He wanted me to run him down and have a friend put it on his bench so I told him to get it here and we'd make a run someday just so I could BS w/the dude. Been a few years so he shows up with it. I let it set on the table. lol About a week later I figured it was time so hooked up a pair of speakers and yup nuttin honey. So I look up the amp and nosed. Found out the loudness button had a safety reset on it. lol I pushed the button and turned it off . Fired it up and it worked fine. lol Told him I fixed it for him and he thought I'd taken it into the shop w/o him. I said yup, you owe me $75 for the bench charge so he paid me. Should have kept the money to replenish the beer he drinks here but I didn't. Guess I had a weak moment. 😂

  10. Yes so, after the OP was done with the simple test, we could know what to do next with the troubleshooting. The process of elimination would eliminate the complete system, pointing to the culprit. One should not jump to conclusions until...focus is the way. OP may well be listening to music now in stereo, or not.

  12. Well that depends. Why don't you share what speakers you have that can't be driven by 6 watts? I assure you the right speaker with the right 6 watt amp will show you an impressive rendition of a kick drum.

  13. I've had an opportunity now for a few hours of listening. I'm ready for doubters, but here goes... I'm not going to write anything eloquent, mostly because I can't. But, my system has NEVER sounded this good. I know it intimately and am confident I can pick out even very small changes. But I can understand if some think this is in my head. Here's some bullet points that come to mind. -warmth and smoothness -shimmer in the highs, with reduced harshness -increased clarity and detail -larger sound stage If it gets better with some burn-in, that would be great! Easily justifies the $60 spent. I can't imagine anyone that enjoys audio listening to this and not smiling. Thanks to all for your input.

  18. I can currently offer some hot sauce for the chili heads on the forum. There is a scorpion based, a death spiral based, and a small amount of yellow 7 pot based sauces. Still at the price of $7 per 5oz bottle, or $15 for an 11.2 oz flip top, plus shipping. They will be ready soon and I am still considering appropriate names for the label. Pm for transaction details. Bon apetit.

  19. Hello I have a set of I think 1974 Klipschorns that I finally got from my uncle after 40 years seeing and hearing them for the first time. Sadly he did not keep them in good shape and they were left in a leaky area and they eventually became a rat house. So far the bass cabinets are scrap along with the woofers. The tops are in decent condition but if I rebuild the bottoms I might as well do tops also. I have already started the tear down of the bottoms and wondering if there is a cut sheet of all parts in US measurements. I have found some online but nothing complete with all the little supports and baffles. Does one exist? The glue is pretty old so once the screws are removed some gentle tapping and the boards seem to pop free. If there is no cut sheets, looks like I will catalog each part and use them as templates. The crossover seem easy to rebuild with new caps should the inductors be replaced also? I did find inside where the tester signed the front panel

  20. I inherited my Dad's Heresy Speaker set, don't know if they are 1's or 2's. After opening up the back of it, seems to be circa 80's based on the size of the caps and the font (lol). I love these speakers and it doesn't seem too hard to fix? I just don't want to break them more. Can anyone point me in a good direction of replacement parts or maybe trouble shooting whats wrong? I'm definitely lost.. Problem: One of them stopped working, no sound Initial trouble shooting: Checked connections to amp, ran the speaker wire through hand to make sure it wasn't pierced/crimped. checked the connection to the cabinet. tightened all the screws on the board. No sound. took my multimeter and checked continuity on woofer, mid, and tweeter. got a beep and all three. Assumption is its the capacitors or what looks like two little transformers? Question: Where can I buy new parts, not totally sure what new parts I need. Thank you!

  21. It is a personal thing. Medium to some is quite hot for others. If you don't know, then you need more experience. As a long time chili head, my hot is pretty dang hot. I order my food at Thai restaurants "Thai hot." If you know what that means, then you can get an idea.

  25. Can someone tell me the height of the top hats? I'm going to build them and put all original speakers and cross over in each speaker. I know the boxs has to be 2 foot wide and 2.6 deep But I need the height to accommodate the tweeter and horn. Thanks In Advance folks.

  26. As I said, apples to oranges. You may be good at what you do, but that doesn't carry over into a private listening room. Mastering audio and listening for pleasure are two different things requiring different tools.

  29. Well, they aren't real JBL parts, but they look the part and the majority of reviews are good. My 4311s are our living room speakers and are probably only on a few times a year. Mostly at Christmas. I've thought of selling the but have had them since the early '70s when I got them new.

  31. Years ago, I used to watch 3 live cams that were in three parts of downtown Belfast, my home town. Sometimes, if I had stayed up late, I'd pull up one particular one and watch the sunrise in Belfast, in real time, five hours before the sun rose in Toronto. It was a small thing, but it made the city seem a bit less distant for a few minutes.

  32. Funny stuff besides the khz talk. Then the blast from the past Celestions that were brought up. Just one thing @MicroMara needs to be someone on the receiving end of that if it was a coffee shotgun! Pulled off the road after a deluge of rain plus an hour of heavy wind that preceeded the storm I have to get through.

  38. Put them in a small room and find an ozone generator. I bought one off of Amazon, about $100 for a decent one, and used it to get a funky smell out of a '12 Nissan Titan I bought and it worked like a champ. Of course, clean that dead rat stuff and urine, too. Don't be in the room when it's running and make sure you let it air to the outside world for a good hour or so. And I concur with @Dave MacKay Cheerleading. lol. Exactly!

  41. Technically no mammals are cold blooded. Vaccines safely allow the immune system to become familiar with, and ready to fend off covid19. Covid19 is a double edged sword. The virus itself can kill or damage you and it can illicit a cytokine storm in your body that also can kill you. Once a person is vaccinated covid19 is less likely to overwhelmingly infect and thusly the immune system is then less likely to ‘over react’. That’s the win-win of getting vaccinated. Your chances of getting deathly sick are greatly reduced. Lots of things can cause materials/fluid from the blood to cross into the lungs. Covid19 can cause ARDS to ensue. ARDS is where the lungs capillaries become overly porous allowing blood proteins to spill into the alveoli. Blood proteins are large cells and through osmosis then extract more fluid and materials from the blood in to the lungs. This is ARDS (in a nutshell) and it can be managed up to a point. It is very complex. A florid case of covid19 impacts many parts of the body. You’re correct we do require oxygen and we also require the removal of metabolites or we poison ourselves. This goes to every cell in the body. If a single section of your bowel twists it can cut off blood supply. No blood no nada. It will go necrotic and die and requires surgical correction. Covid19 can do something similar anywhere in the body. Kidneys, liver, bowels, even your fingertips. Why not just talk with your doctor and accept their advice on how to proceed? You do not want to get covid19 and you do not want anyone else to get it either.

  42. That’s the problem. You are moderating the ‘headwaters’ of what ‘might’ veer into controversy. So literally next to nothing gets allowed. Way, way, way over killed.

  43. It appears to me that the forums no longer tolerate discourse. They allow select articles on select subjects..... but do not discuss them. Taboo content exists in just about every current news topic so very few qualify around here. For example posters can no longer discuss or post articles about The World Health Organization.... it has been deemed too controversial. Really. If you wanna stay abreast of covid19 just read the news and try to discern the real from the fake news. Posting here is sorta like doing a lighthearted polka in a mine field in a snowstorm. Behaving yourself has evolved to mean reading other posts and waiting to see if they survive.

  47. Instead of going over every little detail, I'd like to comment on some impressions I had when first viewing. Others have made similar comments ^^^ further upstream, so this will reinforce their observations. 1. The webpage is hard to read, from a visual aspect. The odd green background needs to go and be replaced with something that will provide better contrast. 2. The font was too small making the page hard to read. 3. There were too many fonts. Use just a couple and make sure they are visually pleasing, no fancy fonts or 4. multiple colors. Otherwise it's visually distracting. See what I mean? 5. I didn't like the giant map on the home page. It was visually distracting. It might work better on another page where you talk about the exact layout of your region, but it didn't mean anything to me, a person who doesn't know anything about Texas, much less Texarkana. The home page should be simple and to the point, which is: MUSIC in OUR TEXARKANA REGION. I would make TEXARKANA more prominent in describing WHERE your center is located, and WHAT is about (Regional Music Heritage Center). Instead of a map on the opening page, I would like to see a picture of your building, then maybe a picture of a pretty girl with a cowboy hat playing a fiddle. In other words, I want a visual impression of what you offer, and some limited words telling me more explicitly what it is you have and more importantly, WHY I WOULD WANT TO COME THERE. Is it just a museum? Is it a place where I can hear music while getting lunch? Does it have a free 15 minute long movie that airs for a half hour everyday? Can I interactively learn to play a banjo or learn a piano riff on an old-time piano? What do I get by coming to your center for x number of hours, information? Education? Entertainment? Food? Drink? Fun? What I am saying is, don't design the web site around what YOU know. Have it address the questions of the potential visitor who DOESN'T know anything but wants an "experience" whatever that is. Oops. Too many questions, I fear. I'll stop here.
