  1. Opened a new thread to cover my progress on the KG4.5s. Don´t know what the pace will be though.

  3. All the sudden it´s autumn here, temps droped down to 50 F max. fresh wind and lot´s of rain. Sitting on the sofa and listening to Steely Dan´s Album " two against nature " . Is´s a great album , maybe one of their best . Earlier I had cooked pollock with a brocilli cream sauce, plus mashed potatoes. Was delicious. Yesterday I had still fetched personal things from the house. I still have to make 2 or 3 trips then everything important is in my new apartment. With my Mitsubishi I can transport a lot, actually I have, except for a few exceptions where I was helped by friends, everything done alone. Today at noon my washing machine was delivered, of course a real German BOSCH and have already washed a lot of laundry . Maybe you remember that I said in the spring of this year at the latest in autumn I'm away from the woman, strange ... excatly that happened and that's good. To my children I have constant contact that is the most important. Life is good to me ..think , act , do ...that´s my philosophy

  4. So I got a pair of KG 4.5s a while back. Turned out I got more than I bargained for... Since I didn´t ask the seller to give pictures of the speakers with the grilles off, I didn´t see that one of the woofers had been replaced. Since I´m from Germany this posed a little problem, finding matching replacements seemed hopeless to me, used spares as well. So in the end I decided to buy aftermarket woofers in the US. The "good one", original K 1005-K woofer. The "bad one", difference is obvious. Apart from the different looks of the woofers, I also got the impression that they sound different, if just a little bit. My guess is the difference in the cross-over frequency. Some of the mids seemed to disappear from this speaker and be heard in the original one. So, yesterday a big box from the States arrived with the new woofers. Time for a swap: The new one on the left looks a lot more "Kipsch-like". Look at those magnets, what a difference... The new woofer almost has double the weight. The motor-board got butchered when the former owner put in the spare, the diameter being bigger than the original... So, at least the motor-boards will have to be re-veneered. I wonder if there are aftermarket "covers" available to make the rim of the new woofers look like the original seen here. So I will try to post pictures of my progress from time to time. Still on my to-do list: – Refurbish the cross-overs. – Refurbish the cabinets. Will try to sand them down first and see how that works out. If I don´t like the results, I will re-veneer them. Right now I´m running in the new woofer and see if I can hear a difference from the non-Klipsch one I replaced. I will keep the original woofer in place for some time.

  6. Well it seems I won't be posting images today, delayed yesterday waiting on battery recharge, that failed. So now waiting for new battery, well 3 really, one for each camera that now needs a new one. I am not waiting on the batteries though to continue, and @Full Range I did try the hemp oil rope, as well as PTFE tape, and a few other slippery options, and found the most sensitive to be the graphite. I put a request in to Bird Precision on a set of spring loaded jewels that would fit the housing replacing the pivot screws, and working out a pin arrangement for a future test. Again a TY to @Full Range for the brochure, I had forgotten the damping of the tonearm bearing, mentioned in the Brochure of being butterfingers. So I disassembled things once (3 times) again and found the right grease for the cylinder. Today is the cleaning and oiling of the walnut, clean and assess the top plate (Paint it??), clean and polish platters, repair the power switch, oil the motor, no need to tear it apart though, not this decade, then on to the next phase. will be firing up the Thorens today as well...C U soon

  9. I picked up some crossovers to rebuild for my recently acquired KP-250s. I knew they were a little funky but they had the autoformer and some of the other parts I needed. Last night I sketched out what was actually on the board vs the actual schematic. Wrong and substituted parts in pink. Replacement parts have been ordered and the KP-250s should be back together in time for some Halloween parties outdoors at the end of the month. It’s been a beautiful day here in western North Carolina. I ran a load of trash to the dump and then went to grab a cup of coffee at my usual place downtown. There was some sort of little festival going on today and all of the usual parking was blocked off so I parked next to my buddy’s gun store and went in and had a chat before hiking a few blocks to get my fix. I came back to the house and called @Marvel up and we talked for the rest of the afternoon. Now it’s time to make some dinner.

  10. Gyros today, rainy and in the 50s here all day. After football I'll see about some good LPs I spied in the den. Mine is long gone.... had red onions and pepperchini with the extra gyro meat also. Think the pita could have stood to be twice as big.... didn't slow me down though!

  11. You are doing the best you can with what you have available to you and you aren’t aggressively promoting non-Klipsch products or services. I think you’re fine.

  12. I would replace the Klipsch OEM woofer with another of the one you purchased, then they would match both acoustically and aesthetically. That should satisfy you until perhaps you find another Klipsch OEM woofer on U.S. eBay where you might have greater luck finding one. Rather than re-veneer the motorboard I would put small black screws in the visible holes left by the oversized woofer. Or, since it sounds like you have some woodworking talent, why not cut trim rings out of veneer to cover the holes and fabricate another one for the all-OEM speaker? Or, here's a company that sells trim rings in all sizes. Buy the size you need and a few extra to practice on before you in install them around the woofers.

  13. I bought another car. Found a pretty good example, considering I didn't know I wanted one of these cars until a week before buying. It's a 2007 Saturn Sky Redline (never thought I'd own a Saturn) with 9k miles on it. I wanted a fun street car/convertible again that I could do autox events in, as a back up to my other street driven track car. 😛 Also ordered a bunch of other things since buying this... Funny how that works.

  14. The title reads like some seedy Craigslist ad! But that's right, I have an 11" long laser engraved piece of swag for your audio room. It's natural oak, so you may stain it whatever color you like, or leave it as is. Free! You just cover the shipping. (My way of giving back to the forum!) I can do more laser engraving if you're interested, just drop me a line.

  15. I can almost understand those wiring diagrams....The symbols are not unfamiliar, anyway ... ---------------------- in the local news The Mercantile [store] will have a 2nd porta-potty for the duration of the hunting season for some reason, I found that rather amusing

  17. Sounding better by the minute! First thing was I had forgotten that I had inverted the plugs of the speaker-cables when I first hooked them up, they sounded strange then. Now that I switched the new woofer for the old Visaton one I noticed that the stereo-image was wrong... As I said, I had forgotten about the cables. Back then I thought I had hooked that cable up the wrong way at my receiver, now I know that the previous owner wired the woofer wrong. That was part of the reason some of the acoustic information got lost... Now everything is as it should be, woofer wired correctly, cable wired correctly at the terminal-cup. Sound is much more coherent now. I will continue to use this combo K 1005-K and new woofer until the new unit has run in. George: As for why he picked the Visaton? My guess is, he just chose the cheapest option with the right diameter. Also, he didn´t know which specs the K 1005-K has, like I didn´t. I was lucky enough to have had a lucky search on Ebay to find my source.

  18. I´m wondering how the preowner was so stupied to use a german Visaton Woofer , if I see the tec-specs from the woofer it´s no suprise to me that it sound different from the origin.

  20. Hi Randy. My question is not as obviously answered as You might think. For us here in Europe it´s much harder to get used spares for Kipsches than in the States or Canada. So, while not cheap, my source is a viable way to keep these speakers pumping, but it´s not OEM. Let´s hear Travis´ opinion about that.

  21. Just noticed this thread again This should clog up an artery. Shrimp, butter, 1 head of garlic, fine chopped onion, salt and pepper and a tiny bit of Old Bay. The shrimp made a bunch of that liquid, but I did put to much butter. Made wraps with it with spinach, diced tomatoes with a little lemon.

  22. I like the harmonica in this song And you may notice that on certain harmonica sections the sound is unique - Now my memory on this is because the harmonica was tweaked internally to give it that unique tone Enjoy

  25. @grasshopper was thinking about her the other day. At least you're there and stepping up. What's a couple fingers right? 😂 Oldest daughters bf rolled another 300 the other night in league. I asked her how many he had and she said like 34-36 she didn't even know anymore. The guy he bowled against had a 287 and she said they were each telling the other it was their turn the whole game. Crazy. I'd have been done at 5 in a row. 😂

  33. Listening Room is finished , those speakers driving me crazy ,again & again & again 😁 hard to beat if driven with the Dynaco PAS4 Tube Pre and the Cayin Mono Tubes. The Micro Seiki DQX 1000 TT is connected as well , last sunday a friend of mine was here and we listened to vinyl only. Used the Shelter 501 III MC , we had tears in our eyes and endlessly listening pleasure . The room acoustic is outstanding , the new apartment is a brand new experience. All other rooms are in work as well . The view through the windows is fantastique , I can see miles into the depth from the landscape ..WOW

  35. Just wanted to thank all the members that provided the information to fix the BAR48. The BAR 48 had no LED lights or sound but somehow connected to the rear speakers and subwoofer. I received the power supply from Amazon on THU and had the sound bar working FRI night. A $15 dollar fix saved me some cold hard cash. Thanks again.

  36. You are veering off the subject. It's not the plywood bass bins without the tops that have tighter, deeper sounding bass. It's the new ones that have one inch MDF. BINGO

  41. My install of the Amazon Power Supply worked. Fighting the glue is the hardest part I found. My 5V DC wires were MUCH smaller in size, and needed help before inserting into the new PS. All in all it works! I did not secure the new PS inside the cabinet. I did place the (original) plastic shield on the bottom of the PS Board on the 120V AC side... just to be safer.
