  2. Hello everyone ! I present to you my new turntable, I received it yesterday, it's a Technics SL-1210G (the one with the bronze brass platter). It's wonderful, I'm listening to Charlie Hunter Trio on it. @KROCK has the same (in Silver it seems to me) for its mono monitors https://www.discogs.com/fr/master/819466-Charlie-Hunter-Trio-Bing-Bing-Bing 🤩

  8. @grasshopper all I know is it's time for the electric blankie and flannel sheets after last night. Was about 24 and snowing with mid 30's @ 3PM. Talking up around 60 Friday & Saturday then it's goin down again. Guess I'll have to take care of the yard. By then the neighbor kid next door should be on easy street. His will be in my yard along w/those from Sherwood Forest since Robinhood has another 20' run across the street waiting for the boys or wind. Whatever comes first I guess. 😂💪😂 @Invidiosulus Ya need a boom box to carry.

  10. 26° this morning when I got the kids on the bus and we are supposed to have a high of 42° today. I think it was about 40° last night when we were out trick or treating. We hit up most of the shops in downtown and then headed over to the neighborhood next to mine and the kids made the rounds there before we headed to my buddies place for a Halloween party and to get warm. The eyepatch kept some heat from escaping my left eyeball. The kids all claimed they were plenty warm.

  11. About damping factor, autoformers and Mcintosh, also Nelson Pass comments. https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/mcinformer.30240/ I wouldn't worry too much about damping factor, it leads to absurd technical values that have nothing to do with sound quality under normal circumstances. If damping factor was so extremely crucial then every tube amp on the planet which is not OTL would have to be thrown on the scrap heap. Here you can read the relevance of DF from the professionals PA perspective, Wire length counts more to them than the DF of an amp. https://eaw.com/amplifier-damping-factor-more-is-better-or-is-it/#:~:text=Amplifier damping factor (DF)is,stop the cone from moving.

  12. The position of the volume knob is irrelevant. You are conflating power with gain. You can have a 2 watt amplifier with the potentiometer at 12:00 and a 100 watt amp at 3:00 with the exact same in room SPL because they both have different front end gain structures. The difference will be that one actually sounds different than the other.

  21. I agree with @82 Cornwalls No two amplifiers with the same power rating are created equal. You can take a 100 watt receiver and compare it to a high quality 20 watt amp (tube or SS, your choice) on appropriate speakers and I predict the smaller amp will walk all over the "more powerful", cheaper one. And I have heard many tube amps (which almost always have a lower DF) that had better bass response than higher powered SS amps. Not every time, but that's a given. The take away here is don't put all your eggs in the "specs and measurements" basket. You might be fooled most of the time.

  22. Wrong I have owned amplifiers with high DF, some were really good and others not, just like lower DF amplifiers. I was making a point (which somehow I knew you would miss) that it's not a good idea to throw a dart at a board with only high DF amplifiers on it and think that it doesn't matter which one the dart hits it's going to be awesome as if choosing the best amplifier for a pair of speakers and individual taste is that easy. Yes I'm fully aware that many amplifiers with good bass also have high DF, but there are also amplifiers that don't have impressive DF numbers and yet they have good solid bass. You repeat that high DF will give tight punchy bass without giving a number of where the line is between high and not high, good bass and not so good bass. How high is high? If you are telling someone to base their purchase on a spec they need to know. DF I will go with well known amplifier designers and what the real numbers show (amplifiers don't work so good without speakers hooked up).

  23. you're confusing high damping factor with loud low quality sound , an amplifier with high DF + matched speakers produces less distortion from the LF , it's a punchy , tight , precise bass at any volume level , regardless of subs .

  29. @grasshopper when I was little we talked about it at grade school. Teacher said it was enacted to help family farms have enough daylight hours to collect and store the crops. Don't think they had those similar to daylight lighting systems back then! Dark thirty? You lucky- duck! It was whenever I heard my name called and I guess it was more quiet back then because everyone could hear their own mom calling. If she was angry... my middle name was included.

  31. Blah, 34 here in Sherwood Forest a suburb of Duckburg @ 3PM. Robin Hood across the street has been out blowing it all away from his over-grown mansion. Heard a blower all morning and finally had to slip out the front door to grab a couple lp's that showed up yesterday. lol Then figured I'd slip out and grab one of @JohnJ's favs. A nice big Gyro w/fries. Came home and there was Robin on his lil John Deere tractor just startin the clean up. He smiles and waves so I waved back. Inside I was laffin my rear off. An old jacket n jeans wearing his Elmer Fudd plaid hat with the earflaps down. Think Imma gonna wait since it's gonna be mid 40's Thursday and Friday. Maybe I'm missin sumpin but at least that's some of his garbage that won't blow my way. Kid to the South of me raked everything up around the base of his two trees in the front yard. That's all headin my way too w/the wind. Mr nice guy is gonna hit this place once or twice this year and forget it. What I don't get will blow to the neighbors just North of me. Maybe a dawn to dusk curfew would work for this dude. I just don't get it. lolol

  35. Duke it is obvious I will not be able to convince you of the truth. And I do not need any drama on a social media forum so you can try as hard as you want to convince members I am wrong. On technical forums we do not deal in hype but truths. Transients, peaks will be shown on scope, that is what scopes are used for with much higher frequencies that audio ones so I am convinced Nelson Pass is speaking the truth when he says in his lab playing loud music the signal does not get out of a 1 watt window on peaks. Not a hard test to perform with someone that has test equipment and an electronic background to perform the test. Members can believe what you say or Nelson Pass an audio genius. Electronics does not lie. That being said I have never run the test myself using a scope. See no need, I trust what Nelson has shown to doubters. I like it now that you are saying approximately 6 watt average but I seriously doubt you are using that much with Heritage speakers on average. My test prove otherwise. Simple to do with a AC voltmeter which I have described previously on the thread. Play your music as loud as ever and just measure the amount of AC voltage you see on peaks. You can then use ohms law to calculate the true amount of power you are using. Just as an example for those that do not want to do the math. If you see 2.83 V's you are using 1 watt. If you see 6V's your usage is 4.5watts. Ten volts 12.5watts. Personally I stay under the 2.83V's on peaks with average usage much less, millivolts. With 6watts of power you will see 7V's AC on your meter if you believe you are using that much on average. I am doubtful you will see 7V's on peaks myself having performed the test many times myself before I was convinced. This is not to say one can turn the volume up to 7V's average and be shown on a meter but I doubt you would be able to stay in the room with an average 6 watts with our speakers. You would have peaks much higher than 7V's AC. Personally I have nothing more to say on this thread concerning power usage. Members can trust facts and figures or hype. I have not seen any test you have performed but perhaps you are using the watts you are saying in a room in your home. How am I supposed to know. Let's be friends that disagree.

  37. I agree with about half of what you say there, and not at all with the other half. Yes, in spite of all the measurements, home audio can still be pretty subjective, with some very dedicated fans of one type of equipment or another. Where I strongly disagree is with your statements that minds cannot be changed. That suggests a closed mind, or even two or more factions, each with their own closed minds. That's the opposite of what the Forum is about, as I see it, anyway. We're here to exchange and share ideas, and to share the joy that our sound systems bring us. Yes, I know that some guys would not ever want to admit to using the word "joy", when they're sober, anyway, but that's what great sound, or great bikes or cars, for that matter, can bring us. Yes, belittling and name calling, in other than well-intended attempts at humour, bring down the level of everything good on the Forum, so that's obviously no good. I'll mention something that I think I've only mentioned once before, a long time ago, so there should be no eye-rolling if I relate it again. Here it is: I've been a big motorbike fan since I was a teenager, and I still enjoy talking about them. One day I got chatting with a co-worker, back when I was a millwright. He told me that over a long period of time, he'd owned a BMW RT sport-touring bike, a Harley-Davidson Sportster, and a Honda Gold Wing. He'd found that each one was a good bike, very effective at the type of riding it was intended for, and just what he liked when he'd owned it. What made him laugh was that each bike had its own group of dedicated, maybe dedicated to the point of being rabid, deadly serious fans. As far as each group was concerned, their Chosen Bike was the greatest thing on two wheels, and anything else was pretentious trash, ridden by ill-informed suckers who either would benefit from hearing what they should be riding, or who were too far gone to learn anything at this point. Sound familiar? No, we don't have to get along, but it's a much better Forum if we do. Also, there's so much that we can learn here. As well as making friends, I've probably tripled what I knew and thought I knew when I first joined. Let's keep it that way, friends.

  40. small update, i bought a pair of Crites CT125 tweeters to replace those cheapo plastic tweeters. the sound now sounds less fatiguing, highs are smoother and warmer. Next job is to fill all gaps in the woodwork, repair the sides and the do a veneering job. Was thinking about birch veneer, and put some danish oil on it afterwards. The look is going to be the same as my upgraded Lenco L75 turntable with custom birch plinth

  43. This thread has meandered a bit, so I thought I would try to clarify things. First, let me make sure we're clear about the scenario. @diamonddelts, let me know if I've got this wrong. You are moving to a new home. The question is whether you should purchase new Heritage Jubilee (and presumably sell or repurpose the UG Jubilee) or upgrade the existing 3-way UG Jubilee (with existing horn subs) instead. If this is the case, I can see the cost advantage of trying to leverage the value of your current investment. Trying Celestion Axi2050 on the existing Jubes is a relatively low risk option since I'd think you would have no trouble selling the drivers if you didn't like the results. (Of course, that means waiting until they are back in stock at Parts Express. Been there.) Maybe just go ahead and try it. As I suggested before if you do this, go to a 2-way configuration. This has the advantage of removing a crossover point and makes the speaker a practical point source from the bass bin crossover point on up. The Axi2050 is more than capable of response to 20 kHz and a little beyond. In any case, with the Axi2050 you could likely lower that crossover point as well to get the K-402 and bass bin polars a better match at that point. However, understand that replacing the existing compression driver with the Axi2050 means that you will have to reprogram the DSP. You could try Chris A's settings from this thread to start with and tweak from there (https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/199267-celestion-axi2050-2-compression-driver-on-k-402-horn-and-jubilee-bass-bin/). However, only by finding some place to hear the Heritage Jubilee would you be able to decide if the results that you get are "close enough" compared to buying new Jubilee. As stated before, this only gets you improved HF on-axis performance and maybe a bit better integration with the bass bin with a low crossover point. It gets you none of the reduction in HF beaming due to the new wide dispersion phase plug. More importantly, it gets you none of the amazing magic of the new bass bin. There's something magical about reproduction from 18 Hz to 20 kHz from only two sources in the room with amazingly consistent polars throughout and only a single crossover point in that entire range. I don't think even well integrated subs would match it. You definitely need to experience it before making a final conclusion. I'm amazed every time I fire up my Heritage Jubes.
