Guys,

Those chevy trucks with the 350 block will just about run forever as long as the oil is changed regular and general upkeep is done. Cant say that concerning all other GM engine offerings of the past 10 to 20 years, 3400 v 6, 3800 v6, and any of the 4 cylinder engines.

I have a 94 Silverado that I bought new that has been the best vehicle I have ever owned, it has the 350 in it and still runs very well at 208,000 miles. I can say I really have maintained it over the years. My dad always taught me that if you take care of your car, most of the time it will take care of you.

My son turned 16 this past Sept., turned the keys to the truck over to him. I still use it when I need to haul something because it has the bedliner in it.

So what I am driving now? After lots of research and test drives ( chevy trucks only of course ) went and bought a 2009 Chevy Silverado Z71 crew cab with leather interior and all the goodies I wanted on it. Sweet truck and I love the xm radio and the blue tooth. Did not hardly drive it all summer, did'nt want to put alot of miles on it. Kept driving my old truck, my son had not turned 16 yet. My youngest daughter would kid me and say Daddy there is a dust build up on your truck so I would go down to the basement and dust her off.

Driving it more now, got about 2800 miles on it and thats making me sick. I know you all think Im crazy, my family does too, new truck and you want to keep it in the garage all the time. I tell them the new will last longer that way. Got the no interest gm financing on it so when I pay it off it might still have a hint of the new smell. I can only hope. A funny side note, I took delivery on this truck on June 1st, the very day GM declared bankruptcy in court.

I told the dealer that I was most likely the only one that bought a GM vehicle that day. It was a good time to buy, I got a good deal on the truck.

I am also one of those types that will drive the car into the ground (or until somebody knocks it out from under me like what happened with my previous car) before I go and replace it.

Currently have a 2005 Saturn ION, which just recently turned 80,000 miles, which I originally bought brand-new with only 6 miles on the clock when I drove it off the lot at the time. I also have a beatup old 1990 Mazada B2200 pickup truck that I bought for only $1,200 back in the summer of 2000. It has around 135K or so miles. Both of these vehicles have been completely paid for for several years now.

I'll drive them both until they fall apart. That old Mazda is certainly kicking along quite nicely - barely have to do anything to it besides change the oil.

it has faded to a pink color

Sign of a very confident person Yes

I don't know about the confidence thing but if it still works fine why pay to fix it, cheap is probably a better description. Also at 52 I have never had the urge to switch teams ( like they say on Seinfeld) although I have considered the lesbian team as the next logical team for me. [:P]

dtel, you are gonna get in trouble......

Work - Office owned 2003 Dodge 2500 diesel (100k on it and it's just about broken in...)

Home - Personal owned 2005 F250, 4x4, diesel, monkey doo-doo brown, about 40k and it's not "broken in" yet. Gotta' have it because of the gooseneck horse trailer, feed, etc. Still owe the family fortune on the da*n thing. It was very expensive, but it absolutely will go where no other truck will go during the hurricane season without getting stuck. In 2004, the old F150 we had got stuck in the front yard, side yard, and every other plcae it could find during Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne. My wife was not happy.... at all...

Alternate home - Personal owned 2006 F150, "plain Jane", no frills, crew cab, monkey doo-doo brown, etc. Free and clear, got a good deal at the Ford dealer as it was a lease vehcle. Funny thing.... the "lessee" was the Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit who used it for undercover drug buys (in Okeechobee, unmarked vehicles and undercover vehicles are pickem-up trucks to load up the bales... we don't get out much 'round here...). NOBODY wanted to buy it because the Ford dealer had to tell them who used it prior to it being for sale. We needed somethng other than the F250 because the cost of diesel was over $4.50 a gallon. I made an offer, got it cheap with full warranty, and it's now used primarily by my daughter for going to and from college.

Wife work car - Office owned 2004 Ford Escort 4 door, plain Jane, white/grey, no frills (except A/C) they bought new for her in late 2003 and now has about 40k on it. We maintain it with very regular service, 3k oil changes, etc. So far it's been reliable. She puts about 20k a year on it, 25-30 miles a day, 5-6 days a week.

When my daughter graduates from college, we will give her the 2006 pick-up truck and buy another old used pick-up truck for our son who will be 16 and ready for driver's ed, etc.

Probably will keep the 2005 diesel for as long as we can. We purchased the Ford extended warranty so we are good until the end of 2012 or 100k, whichever comes first. We have had no problems with the diesel. There were alot of complaints about the Ford 2004-2005 diesel engines having "issues, but the majority are attributed to failure to maintain the fuel injection system filters, change the oil, general abuse (pulling overweight loads at full throttle up mountain sides and blowing the turbo, etc.) I think the key to long life in the power train is undoubtedly changing the oil, proper lube, and being reasonably careful when operating them.

2001 Dodge Stratus, bought new. 120k + miles (I think, maybe more), a high pitched squeal that no one can fix, lots of cracker crumbs on the back floor that I just haven't gotten around to vacuuming, and an intermittently working radio. A lot of work done lately on the bearings, tie-rods, things-in-general, but it's been paid for for 4 years.

I'll probably be looking again next summer, but I dread the car payment. I'll be looking for advice here when the time comes [:)]

I ride the CTA. The CTA always gets me home.

Dropped off right to your kitchen?

Let's see.

1996 Dodge Dakota pickup truck. Silver gray. Bought used back in 1998 with lots of miles. Over 135k or more now. Replaced the radiator, transmission with a used one with 30k miles on it, heater core, seatbelt, and a few other smaller things. Did I mention the paints falling off and some rusty spots. But it runs pretty good and is paid for but maybe gets 15mpg driving to work and back with 3.9 l v6.

Wife dives the family truckster 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. Bought new in April 2005 and will be paid for April 2010 0% financing. Over 100k miles (maybe 120k by now?) well before it's paid for. Steering rack replaced under warrenty. Power slider door repaired under warrenty. Only major repairs so far (knock on wood). Huge cargo capacity (though GLA51 and myself couldn't figure out how to "hide" a pair of Chorus 2 in there) and very flexible with the stow and go. Unfortunately the stow and go seats while supportive aren't the most comfortable.

Daughter has a 1994 Saturn SL1. Odometer broke and stuck at 131k miles. Runs pretty good. No serious mechanical issues. Worse thing was replacing the windshield which was cracked pretty bad when she bought it about 4 years ago. Gets good gas mileage.

1997 Chrysler Sebring convertible. Paid for. Gets pretty good gas mileage though probably not quite as good as the Saturn. Had the transmission rebuilt, the top replaced, some leather on the seats replaced (is leather on a convertible a good idea?), corroded cooling tubing in the cylinder head. Thankfully we didn't pay a lot for it about 5 years ago. Currently dinged up pretty good on the driver's side as it got backed into at an angle by someone in a hurry to get out of our driveway. In the shop now as the starter died last night. It does drive and ride pretty good and is fun when the weather's nice.

I own two, the first one is a 2008 Infinity FX35. I have had the crossover for about a year and a half, only has 5200 miles, I don't drive it much, it's my Sunday Go To Meeting. The rest of the time I drive Jester, he's my 2001 Jeep Wrangle with 127,000 mile, I love that thing. Six cyl, auto, 22 MPG

2006 Silverado LT. Bought it 3 years ago today. 9,557 miles. Third GM truck since 1983. No issues with any of them.

The wife's 10 year old sedan has 29,500 miles. Still drives like new (the wife). Tried to buy her a 09 Corvette convertible for our 36th anniversary a couple of months ago. She balked, I'm still thinking about it anyway.

Most women are happy with small things like shoes, purses and multiple orgasms. Priceless.

Picked up a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 36,000 on it, 2 Thanksgivings ago after some turkey decided to drive through my '99 Cherokee Sport on the Long Island Expressway while traffic was at a full stop. She's got 54,000 miles on it, no complaints other than 17-18 mpg. Used only on weekends as my wife and I leave the city to head out to our house. I've run every car I have owned into the ground, so I'll run this until 100K and then retire it out to the house to use as my beach car out there.

Right now my other car which I leave at the house is a 1993 Ford Econoline V-8 Conversion van. (L.A West) It's got 104,000 on it and I have owned it for 8 years. My Uncle gave it to me with 88K on her. Great for runs to Costco and allows me to go play golf or go fishing without stranding the wife without wheels. Also keeps extra miles off of the primary ride.

94 Acura Integra. Bought used 5 years ago. Now has 176K on the clock. Looks fair runs great. It's a LOT of fun to drive [:D]

94 Ford F150 standard cab long bed with a topper. Bought used March 08. Now has 128K on the clock. Great for hauling big Klipsch speakers around.

Both paid for and both very reliable. Other than maintenance items I expect a few more years out of both without major repairs.
