I think they are just trying to calm the public. But, I can't imagine that having a dentist's face inches away from mine, or handling items at the grocery store that have been handled by countless people is safer than going bowling. What humans have been contributing isn't part of the normal carbon flux cycle -- the rest gets trapped in the atmosphere and absorbed by the oceans. Overall global temperatures will continue to increase while the CO2 in salt water turns to carbonic acid.
