Chris A
https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/10/electric-shocks-tongue-can-quiet-chronic-ringing-ears I'm aware that more than a usual number of people here have chronic tinnitus, and little to do about it other than avoiding loud music and noise. Perhaps this is something that might work for someone. Chris
Seadog
I wonder if it will work if I hold my my tongue to a 9V battery? But seriously, this is very interesting.
Thaddeus Smith
I might have to give this a shot. It doesn't bother me much until bedtime, during which I usually have a TV show running so I can fall asleep.
Schu
It might surpress the interpretation of ringing, but it can't fix damaged nerves... obviously
Seadog
If it can discipline misbehaving neurons, sign me up.

Moderators dtel Posted October 8, 2020 Moderators Share Posted October 8, 2020 Well back when hey did shock therapy you never heard of people complaining about their ears ringing. 1 hour ago, Seadog said: If it can discipline misbehaving neurons, sign me up. I doubt it they seem to do what they want when they want, hard headed little suckers. Well they don't tell you the voltage but they said the patient does it for an hour. So we can start with 110v for as long you can hold it, who's first ? I can't go for more than a second, but I am thinking clearer but still have Tinnitus. Someone else try it . 1

babadono
So whacking out the part of your brain that handles the sense of taste masks the whacked out part that handles the sense of hearing... Hmmmmmm.. kinda like if you have a headache smack your hand with a hammer?

Bosco-d-gama
Be cautious with any homemade approaches. I suffer from tinnitus and I also have burning mouth syndrome. The tongue and your oral cavity is very sensitive and already is subjected to lots of environmental abuses through normal usage. If your biology goes wacky in the mouth there are some heavy prices to pay. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-8815659/Eddie-Van-Halen-blamed-tongue-cancer-fact-held-metal-guitar-picks-mouth.html So - wait until this work gets refined and genuinely safe therapies made available...... my 0.02$. BigStewMan
I have a HUGE case of tinnitus -- maybe I should get a 9v battery and lick it like we did as kids?
Chris A
I have reason to believe that the medical technology being used is like that described in the following link, but instead of pain reduction...rather breaking the cycle of tinnitus: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transcutaneous_electrical_nerve_stimulation Chris
