JL Sargent
1 year ago I got 220 miles per 16 gal tank. Now I get at least 500 miles to a 14 gal tank. VW Golf TDi was my answer to rising fuel costs. But you are paying .50 cents more a gallon for the fuel. So not quite all that but still an improvement for sure. VW Golf TDi was my answer to rising fuel costs. I assume you were driving a larger safer vehicle? I have considered smaller for years but my wife drives a full size and likes it.I would hate to force her scale down then she gets hit and hurt bad and I blame myself. It is a tough call between affordable, safety and max mileage. 3.78 per gallon S Indiana I was driving a reg cab Dodge Dakota. When I was 18 I had a car salesman try to get me to test drive a suzuki samurai. I still remember noticing how thin the door felt when I colsed it. Besides that case safety has never been a concern of mine when buying a car. the Golf does have a lot of airbags and it feels like a very solidly built car. There is no debating that it is not as safe as a fullsize car. Diesel here in West Palm Beach is $4.04 vs $3.79 for the lowest grade UL. I see diesel as being on par with 91/92 octane. VW Golf TDi was my answer to rising fuel costs... Man I love those TDI's, particularly the V10 that use to be offered in the TDI Toureg. They're torque monsters and offer great mileage, but Diesel as a fuel isn't exactly the least expensive alternative, quite the opposite, (don't know why, because it's cheaper to make that gasoline), and that together with the price premium for the TDI option meant I'd have to keep it a few years longer to get a return on investment. I dunno Gilbert, President GW Bush wasn't mentioned much at this years Republican Convention because he was "a Socialist" and his Government bailed out the banks... Remember, 4 years ago the reason Gas Prices were so low was because the Global Economy was collapsing and the American Auto Industry was on the rocks...If you really want to know why gas prices are higher is because the Economy is rebounding and speculators (as in the kind who invest in Credit Default Swaps and similar Derivatives--Ring a bell [:S]) are driving them up.
