  1. Yeah Mark would have been a good one.......but then again more pubs may have failed without his business.

  3. I wouldn't say a mancave lol but certainly a large garage. After I pick up Billy's lascalas I'm leaning toward an mcintosh mc2505 amp and a c28 mcintosh pre. Not 100% sure which route I take. But some older gear sounds like fun

  4. I have came to the conclusion that this audio stuff is for the birds. Just kidding, but I am in a situation where I feel I should thin the herd and put some stuff up for sale. Cornwalls are CBR maybe a 6.5-7 out of 10. I replaced the woofers with Bob's cast frames. The crossovers are refreshed with his Sonic caps as well. These have the cane grills such are sagging a little. With that a couple of scratches being the worse of any damages. If you look below the screw in the last pic you can see one of the scratches. I am asking $650.00 to forum members. Local pick up in Omaha NE, for those who don't know where that is, it's about smack dab in the middle of the U.S.

  5. One corner of my room will be fine. The other corner has 25" of usable wall before a closet door frame starts. Will that be enough? And what do you guys do about baseboards? How can they possibly fit flush in the corner with a baseboard? Thanks in advance, Shakey

  6. I heard a song today which reminded me of where I first heard it. It was Bill Withers, Stand By Me, it was the first time I heard a great singer live in person and it really stuck with me. I was in HS about 1972 or 73, they had one of those drug awareness things and it was mandatory everyone was to show up in the gym. We got the normal drugs speech by some guy, about half way through we were told who he was, Bill Withers which didn't help we were all teens and didn't know who that was, it was not who we liked. He talked about music and the business and was going to sing for us which didn't impress anyone. Until he sang, it was amazing and it was just him singing no other sound, just his voice. Our school (all boys) had thousands of students and it was dead quiet, everyone sat amazed at this mans voice. It was the first time I had a chance to hear live someone with this kind of talent, it was unbelievable and I will never for get it. I had no idea at the time but these songs are classics now and every time I hear one it makes me wish I had a chance to meet the man to thank him, he is probably one of the reasons I loved music all my life. Thanks Bill W, it really was amazing.

  9. I am in the Moosehead Hall of Fame...i think i kept that brewery in business since 1980...until my pancreas decided to get mad at me. Never an alcoholic or anything; but, I partied hard and for a long time. Can't say the alcohol caused the problem; but, pancreatitis is aggravated by booze. My cousin had just died from pancreatic cancer and it kinda freaked me out and scared the desire to drink out of me. Once i quit, i lost a lot of weight and diverted the money to my guitar habit.

  10. If drinking was a requirement of being a moderator then we got the right crew. Surprised Minermark didn't sneak in then It must not count as drinking if you combine it with coffee!

  11. I don't quite understand what you mean here. The AVR vertical is alive and kicking - it's the audio snobs (not directed at you) that turn their noses at such devices. Somehow vintage receivers are amazing audio finds and best bang for your buck (in spite of failing components), but new receivers are considered garbage and should never be used for a "serious" 2-channel rig. I've tried to find fault in my Onkyo's audio, but I simply cannot. Then again, I run a $20 wimpy 15W class D amp in my 2-channel rig so I'm a mere plebeian.

  16. sorry to hear about your migraines. i sure hope you find some long lasting relief very soon.

  17. History of headache since child. Migraines started in the 80's. Worked until Dr said no more last year. Have you tried acupuncture, my uncle has these little studs implanted in his head to help with his migraines. Have not tried acupuncture "YET". Seems like every time I get a new Dr. They disagree with treatment I'm on and try something that usually does not work as well. As much as I hate poking myself with Needles I think the nerve blocking injections seem to help more then anything lately. RN and hate needles. Alright giving others a shot, don't like giving them to myself. Don't know cause. Nothing shows on MRI or CAT SCAN which I'm told is a good thing. As much as I don't like the migraines I know there is people in this world that would gladly trade places with me.

  19. If you're unhappy, just nip it now and eat the shipping. He doesn't sound like someone that is willing to "work" with you and I would be willing to bet he doesn't want to take it back. He probably didn't even test all the functions, unless he was not being truthful about the perfect condition. Lots of snakes in the garden these days. BTW, a good seller will disclose even the most minimal scratch or defect in the product they're selling. Its usually easy to pick out a good seller, but sometimes a detail falls in the crack, but it doesn't sound like that is the case in this scenario.

  24. One time, one of my great grandmothers cut short a family vacation by getting tossed in jail. the rest of the family had to chip in and bail her out. My other great grandmother could still double pick a banjo WELL into old age. The two sides of my family tree are VERY different.

  25. Yeah it was definitely a step up from the Samsung, Pioneer, JBL, and Sony sound bars they had placed around it.

  26. So I finished my morning errands and stopped by BB to give the Ref sound bar a listen to. Wow! That little system can put out some sound! I just connected my phone via bluetooth and I let the music flow. I even had one of the dudes from the Magnolia depo come over and say how good the sb sounded. Once I get the scratch, I'll be picking this system up for sure!

  29. You guys are scaring me! I hit 65 yrs in June, and am right at 150 lbs. The most I ever weighed was maybe 160. All I have ever done was canoes, did a few trips up in the Quetico Provencial Park in Canada, leaving out of Ely Minnesota. Those were great fun. Bruce

  30. Go to page 47 in the manual. Select Large for the speaker. This should turn off the crossover. Select No for subwoofer. This should send a full signal to your speakers. Take some time and go through the manual, there's a lot of good information in there.

  31. I thought transformer failures (besides due to manufacturing defects) are mainly due to overheating or caps going bad. If you keep good caps and everything in spec this would be unlikely to happen? Anyway, I would be looking at a rebuild and not just a repair. If you are going to keep it go "all in"!

  33. Wow! Thanks for sharing that story! For me it wasn't a singer but growing up with my Grandmother playing blues piano. A lot of W. C. Handy was heard around our house! It seemed normal but I knew there was something special about it. Funny how I still associate piano blues with holidays (when she would visit).

  34. I am currently running Polk Audio RTi/12 front, CSi6 Center, F/XiA6 Surround all powered by a JBL Performance Series AVA7 amp and AV1 processor. Room size is approximately 14x22. We enjoy most movies, and most music(everything from heart pounding Metallica to Beyonce and beyond). I have always been a 'best of both worlds' kind of guy. I love to feel/experience the movies/music, but I also want it to be clear and precise. I'm not looking to build anything. Budget is probably $1k-$2k. Finish isn't AS important, because the current sub is tucked away in the corner, but obviously something that looks nice would stand out a little more. I know how my SW-12 sounds now...great... It has a 12" driver, a 12" passive radiator, and I believe a 150W amp. I don't want to sacrifice anything either. You know you're getting old when you can say "they sure don't make things like they used to..." I had some old Rockford Fosgate amps sitting around that I decided to part with. Later I decided to upgrade my car stereo, and bought a new RF amp. I wish I never got rid of the old stuff! I can honestly say that I think the old amps threw out a lot more power and sound than the new one.

  35. from my post on this thread: http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=543615 I only really care about Heritage Type Speakers...in production together, when I bought my kg1 New circa 1991, from the Owner's Manual: kg1 kg3 kg4 Heresy II Quartet Forte II Chorus II La Scala Belle Klipsch Klipschorn not in production then, but to be considered: kg2 Heresy Forte Cornwall Cornwall II Chorus Current Production: Heresy III Cornwall III La Scala II Klipschorn (Current) my all time list: kg1 kg2 kg3 kg4 Heresy Heresy II Quartet Forte Forte II Heresy III Cornwall Cornwall II Cornwall III Chorus Chorus II La Scala La Scala II Belle Klipsch Klipshorn Klipschorn (Current Production) others to consider: Academy Center (if you can't fit a FULL size speaker for Center, are not man enough to tell the Wife to hit the door it's MY house, or need a temporary Center until you can find a FULL size center, &/or grow a pair) AVAILABILITY, CONDITION, FINISH & PRICE most certainly alter MY PRIORITIES. BOLD = ONES I OWN, NOT BOLD = ONES I WANNA OWN others, like Rebel & Shorthorn, sure, I'd like to own, but I want speakers, not museum pieces...

  38. No - never heard the RF-7II speakers. I bought a pair, on this forum, based on what I have read about them. I'm very confident they will work well in my HT system and am also anxious to hear them in a 2 channel system - most likely with a McIntosh MC-2105 amp and C-28 preamp.

  40. Look at the bigger picture. At this point do not worry about the amplifier. The speakers will be a huge step up. Buy them and enjoy them. The rest will sort itself out later.

  46. The Forte / Forte II's are both great speakers but I would choose a Chorus I or II over either any day of the week. They're just more pronounced and detailed in my opinion, much more sensitive too (maybe why they're more detailed?) and at the same time can they take a ton of good clean power and stay crystal clear up to absurd levels. Now that you have the Chorus and the Forte you can make your own determination on which you prefer, congratulations!!
