  1. And it's a reference speaker? Seems like bad branding imo.

  4. Back when Gore created the internet as we know it today, i purchased a pair of Chorus on the Bay, and drove to Eugene OR to get them, these were to be the wifes. Just recently sold them, asking 6 bones, a kid shows up and looking at him, (His first Klipsch) i figure time to spoil the lil chit, 4 bones.

  5. We were tent camping years ago and woke up to find four skunks going through our groceries. It was a mama skunk and 3 babies. They were allowed to take whatever they needed or wanted.

  8. The mic will do what is needed. It will not be as perfect as using the loopback, but it will get you close enough. You can use calculations to get a baseline start then look at the frequency response at the crossover point. When drivers are time aligned and level matched using a LR 24db slope it will be flat at the crossover. The first thing is to make sure the drivers are level matched then you can mess with the delay and dial the delay in until you get it as flat as possible at the crossover point. Also speaker time alignment is only perfect at the place you align them at. You can also run a measurement sweep in rew and look at the impulse response. If one driver is delayed it will show up in the time between impulse response peaks.

  9. Sounds like the proper order to me Mark! My bud bluesboy is happy about the Seahawks victory last night I'm sure. Taking Jake to a large pool on Sunday that they close off to humans at the end of the season and let the dogs have it. Hope he can at least dog paddle Cheers Gents

  10. I saw these last weekend. It's synergy right down to the same grill. Magnolia had these sitting out on the floor with boom boxes and Bose (not kidding). Then 50ft away two large demo rooms full of speakers not one Klipsch to be seen. Very sad

  11. No I don't. But I do remember this 8-track tape that was not a tape, it was a stash for your weed. Got it at a record shop that sold weed paraphernalia back in the late 70's. I used to much of the contents of that tape that's why I can't remember my 1st 8-track lol lol :-)

  13. Klipsch CF-4 Speakers, Version 1, Year-1994. I am the original owner and these speakers have barely been used, but loved immensely when I have had the time. Mechanically Excellent. A few blemishes. They do look very nice. The only 2 things missing are the Klipsch emblems and the stands for the foot pegs. Asking $1,200 OBO + Shipping. They are located in Endwell, New York.

  15. I guess I tend to forget there are other Reference speakers then RF-7's, and RF-5's. These where the speakers that first got me to notice Klipsch. When they replaced them with from what I felt was a down grade, I guess I felt the same as you. I can relate to this, I've always thought and do still think that the 3's, 5's, and 7's were better. ??? The RF-82 is clearly an upgrade from the RF-3, however slight it may be. True, the RF-5 remains unmatched in its price range and had seen no successor, but the real Reference line has only gotten better. I'm still trying to figure out the upcoming marketing strategy here though. Is the new true reference line going to be renamed? Or will we have the new Icon/Reference line sitting under a continuing Reference II series?

  16. I know that it will work out for him. Having interest and having fun is so important. These years go by fast. I can remember for so many years, our baseball activities being so demanding on our family. We traveled all over the country playing in tournaments. It was time very well spent, but also very expensive. It worked out well. My son played high school and college baseball, got his degree and now really enjoys teaching and coaching. I guess we did something right.

  17. I think Jensen 6x9 Triaxials were pretty common back in the 70-80s, I know all my buddies had them. You may be right as far as tri-axial vs co axials. Things were a little "hazy" back then.

  18. The most unsung hero of a speaker is the rf5. Why they don't bring it back to close the gap between the 82's and 7's is beyond me especially if they refine them as they have done with the first 2 incarnations. It's important to keep in mind the difference between refinement, improvement and difference in sound reproduction. They all are similar and can be intertwined yet are separate and independent of one another. The consensus I feel in general is we are all a little butthurt because klipsch removed the glamour we all had and still have if you are in the know...

  21. No not on the minidsp each channel controls a different driver so say output 1 goes to the woofer it would have a high pass and a low pass. The high pass would be the cutoff of the quarter pie and the low pass the 400hz. Say output 2 goes to your midrange/upper end driver it only needs to use the high pass at 400hz then bypass the low pass filter as its not needed this creates your 400hz crossover. Also on output 1 uncheck the highpass as you want it set at 50hz or the cutoff of the quarter pie.

  23. Audyessey........Yuck. I'm not an Audyessey guy. I have it in my HT receiver. Tried it......Don't really care for it........and I would certainly never consider using it for a music system. But that's just me. To each his own. Forge ahead.

  24. FWIW: The Altec Voice of the Theater guys used to wire the treble horn in reverse polarity, then put in a sine wave for the crossover frequency, and move the treble horn back and forth until a dip appeared at the crossover frequency. Then, they'd return the wiring to normal. It is much easier to detect the resulting dip, which could be 20 or 40 dB or more deep, than to find a 3 dB peak. So if you can make a sine wave, you can adjust the delay and look for this phenomenon. It may not be possible to get every frequency "time aligned." WMcD

  25. You should notice it to be clearer. I'm not sure what you mean by better. The only big difference should be time alignment unless you are moving to different amps.

  26. What would be helpful is to get a FR plot of the lascalas as they are now wiht the passive networks............so you have a reference measurment of the speaker output containing all the drivers. You can aim for a similar output with the active system. It will be a big help in balancing the drivers outputs. Edit: Not sure why I thought you had lascalas.........after re-reading first post that was a mistake obviously. Still, a reference measurement of the system output as it is today will help you big time as trying to tune and active system by ear with no reference plot is a sure way to get lost. .

  30. If the magnets are screwing with the picture, you're too close. Back the speaker away far enough until the picture looks normal.

  31. This is the problem, unless it has change since I have started this thread. There is no way to introduce a loop to the system so you can achieve what is needed. Here is some info that might help. http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/rew-forum/76138-umk-1-rew-help.html I believe some of the info is stated in this post,

  32. You can use 500hz also it just depends where the quarter pie rolls off at on the high end. That's the nice thing about going active you can make all the adjusts and test in real time.

  33. Wow, that's familiar... I didn't get a CD player until August 16, 1986. Paid $370 (I found the receipt a while back!) for a Yamaha CD-500. Still have my first CD, Pink Floyd DSOTM. I still think it sounds better than any digital versions I've heard since. First 8-track was Boston.

  40. Duder, when I first cooked on a pellet smoker I realized it equaled the best smoked meat I had ever done. I cooked a whole hog on a pit I had made with concrete blocks. Smoke was provided from the hot coals of a green hickory wood fire. This cookout was for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. I've posted this photo before but it's worth sharing again. The smoke flavor from the pellets equals the flavor from the green hickory coals and is a whole lot less work.

  41. You need a buyer that wants off brand parts (or does not care). Even if bobs stuff is as good or better its still not pk. honestly that didn't even enter my mind, thank you for your f/back. the new components sound so much better than the original. not that the klipsch were inferior, they were just in need of replacement!
