  5. I hate exposed wires, so I tackled the problem. I wall-mounted my display, and dropped some boxes into the wall behind the TV and the equipment below. The boxes are chopped out at the back to fit a large volume of wires. The covers are plain cover plates with a 1" hole hogged out in the middle. This took care of any hanging wires, but my cable modem and wireless router are also in here, so there's a lot of wires below, as well as the ugly covers and outlet visible through the inside of the rack. I fashioned a curtain from some black fleece fabric, and stapled it to the back of the rack. Now it looks clean. The curtain "blacks out" the rack, and even hides the few wires that are still in front of it, since I replaced all the 5' yellow CAT5 cables with 2' black ones. I'm happy with the end result.

  8. Well your welcome, but you did most of the work, we try to make everyone feel welcome. THEN we talk them into spending all of there money, the wife is always mad at them, they travel many miles to spend more money buying speakers and after all of that they are constantly looking for better "parts and pieces". Your welcome

  9. I agree, this is a pretty cool forum, usually very mellow and without the egos like some forums. I am completely overwhelmed by the knowledge of some of the people on here. Thanks for the info guys

  10. No adjustable phase, just a 0-180 switch. Seemed like they skimped on the amp features. Makes you wonder about the rest of the sub. Those 2 features couldn't have been that expensive to integrate into the amp.

  11. I had a scare today demoing the subs. I knocked off a couple of breakers. Two of the breaker I thought had nothing to do with the subs. I have two dedicated 15 amp circuits for the HT and only 2 subs per circuit. This is the first time this has ever happen. Is it just a fluke or do I need more amperage? I should mention that I had the electric fireplace on. I don't think it uses that much juice. System was at reference (0), 5 hot on the subs, speakers set to small to decrease HT amp power draw. It felt like a twister in the room prior to shut down, lol.

  12. Been looking and searching for speakers for my garange and my patience finally paid off. Introducing my '86 Heresy I HBR! Got the pair for $300 and I thought it was too good to pass. I set them up just below the ceiling angled between 20-25 degrees and the sound coming from these speakers are just beautiful and astounding. They're like mini-Scala... ; ) Connected to my old Pioneer 5.1 receiver, I left the FM radio running and went into the house then my daughter said, dad, what is that thumping sound coming from? Then...we started dancing to the beat...hehee I do lots of work in the garage so this new set is just going to make it that much more enjoyable when getting my hands dirty changing oils, etc.

  13. Believe it or not I have done my share of horns. You have to set parameters in order to compare responses. But I am done with this. I went back to the original question for this thread and I have tried to answer it best I could.

  14. eh... exposed wires never bothered me. what bothers me more is a rats nest behind devices. I try and route all that stuff so it's clean changes are easily made. nice work though OP.

  17. At 25 you may be past or at your peak now, better enjoy it. And when your 30 you will think 40 is on your way down, and over and over each 10 years. Then your dead, have responsible fun NOW and try not to stop. I only say responsible fun because irresponsible fun can end the whole process. Our 3 kids are roughly 10 years older than you, and were having fun, actually more now, people do not look at old people as the troublemakers, thanks young people.

  28. Been in my HT for a long time, supporting some RB75s. Got a great deal on an SVS, need to make some room. They're used, been through a couple moves, but still sound great. Listed on ebay and CL, first 250 for the pair, come and get 'em. Auralex Subdudes not included. Concord area. Special price drop for the community, today. Screwdriver in my hand, someone better move, or the sub gets it !

  29. Electric fireplace is on the same breakers? Any electric heating element draws considerable juice. 600 watt hair dryer = 5 amps @120 volts. 1500 watt space heater = over 12 amps @120 volts.

  30. I know a guy that just did not use the subs in the tower and used his regular subs. He said subs need to go where they work best and his tower speaker locations was not the best spot. He also felt that his regular subs were stronger and would do a better job.

  31. The definition is not the problem. It is the arrogance of one the "experts" on this forum to totally decide they "know" how the horn was designed. That is a problem on this forum. Getting back to the original question. Why not a round tractrix horn? I say sure. Probably the biggest obejction would be that the coverage pattern of the horn in the vertical would put a lot of energy on the floor and ceiling.

  39. I thank the vintage gods that I stocked up on good vintage tuibes for my gear before the prices went crazy and the stocks became so rare. Once I began to understand my preferences in tubes for my specific gears, I stocked up. Ebay used to be a real treasure trove in tubes - especially back when people didn't really trust euro sellers. I've bought tubes from Sweden, Turkey, Germany, Canada....even Russia. I located all kinds of stuff, like Siemens and Phillips 6922 and 7308, as well as GZ34, Phillips Holland 12AX7 and 12AU7....all true NOS. I have a different take on tube rolling, though. I tended to listen for a few weeks before making any changes - assuming the sonics weren't a total "flop". I find that what is heard initially isn't always the best total impression. I want the tubes good and hot, and want to listen across a broad range of sources and music types before making a final decision. I like Philips Holland late 50's/early 60's in 12AX7, 12AU7, and 6DJ8 family tubes in most of my newer gears, and Tele 12AX7s for my vintage Mac stuff. And of course always use Mullard GZ34 as my exclusive GZ34. About the only current/recent production tubes I use whatsoever are the Penta Labs KT88 in my VRDs. Everything else are the old stuff. Using the best in vintage tubes brings out the best in my gears, and the totality of improvements really make a difference. Good parts and tubes in good gear make my gear "upgrade-proof". It took years to figure it out, though Totally worth it once done. These days I just listen

  41. this is it. Acoustic Revive RR-777. I also did some correction. the frequency adjustment potentiometer was 10K which was a vile mistake. it should be turned all the way up to set frequency to ~7.8hz. I replaced it with 25k pot, it will set to 7.8hz in the middle of it's range so there is more room for adjustment. the Protel file could be mailed if anyone is interested. I think whom designed RR-777 was a newbie to electronics. stand up resistors in such circuits result in noise. all in all this is a very simple circuit. actually it's pretty funny. funniest thing is that this simple device is being sold for 450 to 650USD! the OPAmp is HA17358 (LM358, HA358) which delivers a sine wave with least accuracy and high distortion. it's pretty cheap. I can design a very complicated device with something far better (XR2206 for example) with variable output power, LCD display for fine frequency tuning and a true SMPS PSU insuring circuit stamina and stability. a programmable time schedule for automatic on/off functions and alot more and all these for less than 200USD. http://www.space-tech-lab.com/SP-SR-100.htm

  42. How about this style Well the first set I was looking at feel through, no big deal. So I was on the Craigs List the other day looking for stuff I don't need, you got it...........came accross another set. So I called my man and had a good chat about audio stuff. He was a pro-audio sound guy and new quite a bit. He was out of the buisness and was clearing out a bunch of stuff. So my wife and I closed the shop early, and took a drive to PA. It was about 1.5 hours, not to bad. We got there and down to the basement we go. Well he did have a good bit of gear, just one set of Klipsch some kg-4's. He told me he did own some LaScala's, KLF's over the years and did like the Klipsch sound So we powerd up the EV's with a Caver TFM-35x he had hooked up. Listend to a few songs with about 30 watts hitting them. "OK" good sound but if you guys have read my posts you know I'm into my Chorus I's Chorus II's and my KP 362's pushing them with over 300 watts of Carver power. So I said let's get that Carver working. The TFM-35x is rated @ 250 watts and he put that to them-and some..........Well let me say..........WOW........ Hard hittin chest thumpin all the way. I like em, so did the wife. The price was $300 for the pair, both were in great shape. Not all beat-up like most used pro-gear. So the deal was done. The Carver was also for sale but I passed on it. But I did spot a nice Crown 1010 amp. It looked really nice, 275 watts 8 ohms. So yea I snagged that for $150 bucks. Well to sum this up the EV's with the Crown amp are a great combo, imho. Now I'm not here to wave the EV banner.......cuz......this is the Klipsch forum and I do LOVE me some Klipsch, I just think me and the wife did good. Let's face it my Klipsch friends when you can tell your wife we are closing the shop early, driving 100+ miles, spending $450 bucks on audio equipment and she likes it........it's good no matter what you buy :-) Take care all Mark.......
