  2. Good afternoon folks!! I finally got tired of seeing the ghoulish outline of a guy whenever I posted something, so I found a picture of my favorite musical instrument (the one I own and play most every day) and put it up. Of course, it's a Hammond B3. Hope you all are enjoying a great Sunday. We have resort weather here in the Denver area and will take it as long as we can get it. Cheers. Chuck.

  3. Well some of you know i recently sold my RF-63 theater in search of something else for my living room. i knew of only one thing i wanted for sure. something very pretty to look at. i really wanted a ribbon setup but wasn't sure i could afford one. and i was looking a a few different brands. Salk, Ascend made the cut due to their ribbon offerings and then focal 800 series made the cut due to their price. well as much as i kept looking at the focal for the price i kept getting drawn back to the salks due to the gorgeous offerings they had. plus i had heard them once and knew they sounded amazing. well i finally found some salks that were across the country and they guy was offering only local pickup. so i made a post on facebook and my father in law just so happened to be heading towards kansas city. i made a call and then bought the speakers. they were picked up and survived the trip in the back of a truck with a camper shell. i only bought the front three as that is what the seller had. not sure what he had for rears if any at all. so without any more talking here are a few pics if my new Salk SongTower RT's and SongCenter RT:

Gets real easy to sit here lookin at the list, and sayin to yourself, nope, nada, dont feel like doin that, nope, maybe. Newly retired as of this year and still learnin the ropes. beer is handy.

  5. Morinin' all. This semi-retired old f*** has to get some work done today after the coffee pot is drained. Would rather be outdoors since the great weather continues. Cheers.

  9. Hi, guys. Well, I bought the Klipschorns. Came out of multi-million dollar home in Denver because the owner's wife wanted to redecorate (so said their "assistant," who handled the transaction). Looks like the butler waxed them regularly. 1987, with I believe the foam horn. (M?) I'm not an audiophile, so I lack the technical terms of what I'm hearing. I'm also coming from Magnepans, which are a whole other thing. My analogy between the two speakers: Like leaving the bedroom of a beautiful woman who wears sensible underwear and getting *****-slapped in the alley by Mike Tyson. Thanks for tipping me off on the speakers. (Anything by Dinah Washington sounds superb. ...)

  10. The best QB in football, you mean Andrew Luck? He leads in 3 categories already, and has broken most of Mannings records when Manning was in his third year. It's amazing what the Colts have achieved. When Manning left, this city was devastated. Now they have a guy(Luck) who seems just as good. Manning still spends a lot of time in Indy, he has many interest here. The city still loves him. Payton, Eli, and their Dad donated 20 million to St Vincent's Hospital for The Payton Manning Children's Hospital.

  11. Not sure how a well set up surround system with quality gear mucks up the musical experience. A crappy one, sure. But that is also true of stereo. I don't understand the knee jerk response to surround sound. I just finished a performance of Tchaikovsky's 6th Symphony 45 min. ago. Tuba on my left, 2nd trombone on my right. Trumpets in front, tympani behind. Basses front left, woodwinds front right, the rest of the strings front. Surround sound. My experience with surround has been that while it seemed pretty cool at first it was still gimmicky and not what I want to hear long term. I have had a thought about this that might explain why some people like it and others don't. You are a performer and quite used to being "surrounded" by sound from all directions. That is an experience that you are used to and enjoy. Others might really like that immersed feeling too. I haven't been a performer since jr. high school and I'm used to sitting in the audience. The only need for surround for me would be to add audience noise and whatever other ambiance is to the sides or back of me. Anything beyond that is not natural to me and is a distraction. I have experienced a good room with a good setup that completely transported me to the venues where the recordings were made. There was no need for surround. It was quite amazing and I hope to someday replicate that!

  12. Vintage Peyton. What a performance. Most teams want the quarterback to be the "face of franchise." Peyton is the Face of the NFL. I loved the vignette of Peyton with Slingin' Sammy Baugh. Peyton was humble with this Hall of Famer and elevated Baugh above himself by pointing out that NO quarterback will ever break Sammy's record, where in the 1943 season he lead the league in passing, INTERCEPTIONS (he was a two-way player at linebacker) and punting! These two players are men we can all root for. +++ The Hall of Fame rep was already in the stadium to take the record setting ball to the HOF. Did you see the video of the players playing keep-a-way from Peyton with the ball? He would try to get the ball and his team mates kept throwing it around while Peyton chased it, just like like when I was a kid. Classic! Edit: The keep-a-way was planned by Peyton, and they even practiced it! It's still cool . http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11733000/denver-broncos-game-keep-away-peyton-manning-was-planned-ahead-record-setting-td-pass

  16. I finally heard some Heritage speakers. I was truly impressed with the Corwalls and Heresey. Seth's tub amp sounded great as well as Mark's Yamaha. Jim's Ampsound is beautiful and so smooth. We had some great food, drinks and conversation. Man, everyone was conversing right from the start before we got into Seth's house, lol.. We had vinyl, cd's, and digital music with some youtube videos to throw in. All the media sounded great. It sure was fun sampling others equipment. Duder, join RTM for you next gtg, some of us will be drinking and jamming with you!

  17. These are a lot different then my get togethers, I am usually missing 2 things that I see here. Forum members, and all the gear to swap around. As it turns out, they are usually just me getting drunk and listening to music on a Saturday night. All BS aside, looks like you all had a nice time.

  18. As much as I hate to encourage You They were very impressive !! They were playing with Jims ampandsound and Jasons Table Tuba and I was thinking that's alot of quality sound from such a small attractive package. I actually had to walk up and make sure it wasn't the Cornwall's playing and those are some really sweet Cornwall's. Also a huge Thank You to you Gnote!!! we just got back... WOW lol every turn in your house was a holy cow! I mean I just wanted to check out some stacks lol Great afternoon. Thank you so much for your time and demo's. Wow what a weekend! When I get home tomorrow i'll have an audio hangover...actually I believe the weekend just made for some sweet dreams until the next gathering... Through all the gear iv heard this weekend possibly the biggest eye opener was that Yamaha Mark hooked up The aletheia cornwalls were really nice just so blissfull. The Claude baby cw's with the geemany Christmas tabletuba with the ampsandsound se15...once the baby cw's were put on stands there was such a clean sound any audiophile could fall in love with for a lifetime. What a combo. Both of Lemonstrings amps were very clean too. I missed the later kt88 demo which I wanted to hear pretty bad...maybe next time... Critical listening through the whole day seemed to go so simply... Im looking to get home and play some tracks to do some comparisons. Lemonstrings turntable was very smooth as well. Very nice! Its so interesting the twists and turns audio has with things like the table tuba and comparing quality tube amps then hearing an older solid state that shines so well. Some people may come to Chicago for museums or games or what have they...well the klipsch audio community in Chicago is extremely fine. Every conversation over the past 2 days has been awesome. It was so much fun to learn and listen to different gear. What an absolute blast in Chicago! cheers to Lemonstring for putting it together!

  20. It was a great time and like Jason said it was nice to put faces with names. Seth, his family, and his neighbors were all great people. Seth's system was a real treat ! and he set the bar really high for future get together's Seth if your neighbor tell's you I harrased him about his speakers that's BS. Wait his speakers are B*S* .Wait no I'm sticking to my original story. To the Forum members if Opusk2k9 tells you I gave him a lot of grief about snagging all the good deals around here. OK that might be true Also if JimJimbo tells you he had to leave early and didn't say Goodbye to me because I made him uncomfortable by asking where his ampandsound was spending the night. That was the alcohol talking ! I've never given Tubes a second thought but I wouldn't have to think twice about what Amp I would get next, for a 2channel rig. JimJimbo's ampandsound was amazing !!! I was pretty stunned when it was playing with his super heresy's and Jason's Table Tuba which was as pleasing to listen too as it is to look at! Great time! Great gear! and even better people!

  23. ANTIQUE SOUND LAB Wave 8 $400. 2 tube mono-block amps. I bought these from a friend have went about completing a full reconditioning of these wonderful amps. Buy without concern, fully bench tested, and re-tubed. Go to ampsandsound.com to see more of my work. . . its bar none. I bought for $300 for the pair and have $200 in upgrades/reconditioning. Each amp had the coupling caps replaced with tight tolerance 5% orange drops. The traditional DC filtering was done with use of a simple 3watt resistor. I opted to include a 4henery choke dropping the DC ripple to nil and the noise floor further improved. The pair was run-in with Freq sweeps and test music before complete bench testing. All voltages are correct and the S/N is considerable lower. The amps include 4 complete sets of US good pulls. I ordered new NOS tubes and have installed. The amps are just right. . . incredibly musical. They are spec'd at 8watts. With the increases to D/C filtering and new tubes. . . I was able to get 10watts on my meters. The Wave 8 clearly provides the tube sound, for a pittance of the price of most good tube or solid-state amplifiers. They perform with a joyous snap and pop. More like the exuberance of college football than the smooth professionalism of the NFL. Yet, the low cost and low powered tube amps were wonderful to hear. They have a whiff of the rare air of magical audio combinations. Indeed, I found myself returning again and again to rock recordings and playing the Waves loud. Output power: 8 Watts Frequency response at 1 Watt: 20 Hz-20 Khz. +/- 1 dB Frequency Response at 8 Watts: 30 Hz-18 kHz. +/- 1 dB Distortion at 1 Watt: < 1% Distortion at 8 Watts: <5% Input impedance: 100k Ohm Input sensitivity: 500 mVolt Output impedance: 8 Ohms Dimensions: 6" W X 12" D X 5.5" Weight: 7 lbs Justin 323-868-9722

  24. BTW, real voices and instruments are NOT only 50-Hz. It is much lower. Humans can hear down to 20-Hz (which takes a lot of energy). We can FEEL as low as just five cycles per second (Hz), which takes even more energy. CDs have “musical” things happening below 40-Hz, no matter what the subject matter! Using the Real Time Analyzer in my Behringer DEQ2496 UltraCurve Pro equalizer, let me tell you, even the human voice has HARMONICS that extend below 40-Hz. Rock/popular music certainly does get below 40Hz, unless there is no kick drum, saxophone, bass guitar or piano! In fact, 40-Hz is the low string on the bass guitar, which means there certainly are HARMONICS lower than the initial 40-Hz note. The kick drum itself makes a low 30-Hz note, which can reach momentary peaks of 120-dB! That alone should indicate the need for very big, very deep and very powerful sub-woofers to replicate live music realistically. The key is to seek accuracy and flat frequency response in the hyper-critical range (100 to 13-kHz) FIRST, as much as possible, before reaching for those low notes. But a system that ignores the high-energy bass and low-end never sounds real.

  25. So one of the 2 best teams in the NFL is 3-3? You do realize, that you quoted then argued with a post from 2013? +++ Edit: In your defense, I don't know why anyone would resurrect a thread started in 2006.

  27. Wouldn't mind finding this out either. We have a spare PC (XP Pro) but would need a nice sound card for the mic-input. Short of finding a used McIntosh MEN220 (to match the rest of my setup) or a Lyngdorf RP-1 (still too much money) this may be the only way to go. I know there are packages at Parts-Express for a couple hundred but I'm still on the fence it those packages doo the same thing at the Mac/Lyngdorf.

  38. im thinking pro amp for lcr and then transducers. Transducers? You lost me. bass transducers ref. how have you not heard of these!?!? Install under seat and shake your couch for that tactile feeling that subs have a hard time producing in a basement. Look them up on oarts express. And YouTube. Lol I have heard of them. Didn't think you meant those with your subs,

  39. My transducers come in tomorrow. I ordered the Aura Pro (6). I am not sure if I will like them but, I can always send them back. The Buttkicker are stronger in power handling. I heard they can vibrate the seat more with music than the Pro. That sounded undesirable, lol. Most likely I will leave them off except for movies.

  43. Pravin, I had the same issue with my rf-82s and denon avr 300 (entry level) avr. My old Bose 701 and technics Avr (16 yr old system), had more bass. The denon manual is poorly written so you need to experiment. Here's what I did that made a night and day difference: -set front speakers to small -set sub crossover to 80, phase to 0 -SET "RESTORER" TO LOW (makes a huge difference) -press 'music" in denon remote and select stereo, if you press "Pure" button sound will be very flat -turn on audyssey AND dynamic eq -if you still want more bass, move up the volume in the sub, not the avr subwoofer trim level Let me know if it works.

  44. It is personal preference but I have my rig set that way. Most of the time I listen/watch concerts in multichannel but the occasional stereo mix I may drop the crossover down to 60Hz. Any specific concerts you have in mind? "Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds Live at Radio City" is the best recorded(audio and video) BD concert I have ever experienced. The imaging and soundstage are second to none, IMO. Bill Agreed. Best for you to try out different settings. I ran the 7s large and felt they sounded a little fuller. My new speakers I xo them at 80 right now. But do plan at some point to try a few other settings. My advise when you are trying new settings. Is to live with each setting for a few weeks or longer. Then when you change you will notice the small change for better or worse. If you just flip back and forth it will be harder. My point is it can be different in every case.

  46. Those amps by Paul Weitzel are built by Tube Research Labs. They make some killer stuff. I had a TRL modified Sony DVD player a few years ago, and it killed some much more expensive disc spinners for two channel music (it's only function as the video was intentionally disabled). Shakey

  48. I have went through a few amps and the old Yamaha amps can't be beat. The M 80 sounded just as clean as my Mc Intosh, except more power.

  49. I have an SC 35 which is 140 watts/ch. I think the 63 is strong enough since it can swing over 200 watts a channel if needed. In spite of the Elite avr's power, I use an external amp and use the avr as the brains of the system. I have been very happy with this setup and favor it over spending more money for a separate preamp. The Elite avr as a preamp is no slouch. The DAC is excellent along with the other features. I like running all my speakers as small even with all of the available power in my system. Do I truly need the Acurus 200 Five amp, that may be debateable but, I like having power amps in the mix. Amps, subwoofer and speaker have come and gone on the three years that I have been on the forum but, the SC 35 is a keeper. I can already say that my next avr will be a Pioneer Elite for my main HT. I like a MCACC based system.
