  1. Hanging out with Carl tomorrow and gonna have a Bleu Cheese burger at the famous Wille Burger of Beaumont Tx! It doesn't get much better than that when you consider Carl makes the best Da*m vodka martinis around! Like is good.

  2. Was up at 430 am, 2 cups of coffee then some black Friday shopping for a gift for the boy. Back home by 630 am took a nap till 830 am more coffee was needed. Turned on the NE/IA game. Thought at first was going to be another a$$ kicking from IA, we some how NE came back and won it in overtime. I actually took a nap after half time, then woke up to the win. Maybe I just need to sleep more often during the game. Well now time for vodka/cranberry, wife is decorating for Christmas.

  4. Your gal must be a musician Chuck--I believe the PS-14 goes for several thousand $$$. Like Bruce, I love Taylors -- Great sound. Just my preference; but, I’ll take a Taylor over a Martin any day. I believe you are correct about the date--i’m sure Taylor website has page about how to read the serial numbers; but, i believe you have a 1997. Rock On Brother! Oh yeah, you mentioned watching lessons on You Tube -- there’s this guy on You Tube named Marty Schwartz -- excellent dude. He used to be a school teacher and is really good at conveying information in an easy to understand manner.

  6. Happy Saturday all. 2 cups down. Not much on the agenda except shipping the defective cd player back to Music Direct. Would be a good day for a drive in the mountains except for all the darn ski traffic. Gotta get the imagination fired!! Cheers to all.

  10. Thanks for the information Steve and Bruce. I will check out both sites. Keep in mind that I have never picked up a guitar till now so this may take a while Bruce I hate to hear you are selling your guitar. Steve as I mentioned she has seven guitars and I really don't know what I'm looking at when I saw them all. Two are electric the rest acoustic. We took a Martin to a certified service center to have some inlay reattached. Her late husband was a dentist but also had a recording studio. JL....I envy your outing with Carl. Good burgers and martinis.....yum. Report back please....better yet send pictures. duder sounds like he has the proper order for this holiday season LF had a suggestion when I was relaying news about our coffee thread the other day. I told her we were like friends that have never met in person. She asked if there was a way we could Skype on the forum. Maybe Chad could figure this out. Perhaps we are all to old, fat, and ugly to want to do that Retirees.......it's only Saturday. Go back to bed! Cheers Gents

  13. Good evening guys .. a bit late for coffee so this is diet Coke and Cables for me. Thanksgiving went well .. had to finally pull the turkey from the smoker and finish inside. Something about high altitude and cool temps, but any more smoke might have been too much. Baxter is a happy dude with turkey tastes and kids to play with. Goofed off today except for contacting Music Direct about a faulty new cd player. Fantastic customer service ... don't even have to pay for return shipping and they will send us a new one. Takes a major bite and irritant out of on-line shopping. Highly recommended. Hang in there Tarheel .. she'll be back before ya know it.

  14. Spiders, of all things spiders ! Rainy day here for a change. Fedex waking me from my napping, delivery of boat goodies. Detel iv been bitten by everything from snakes to spiders in 30+ years of mining. Ill take a snake over a Black widow anytime, snake bite 8 to 10 days, black widow takes about the same, however up to six months later you get a shooting pain in your joints. dam spiders anyway.

  15. Couple of cups of Major Dickinsons Blend enhanced w/Duggans. Back on the Bay buying Boat goodies, great time to buy Marine oriented items. Stereo iv purchased for this farmers boat, Sony head unit, 2K amp, Eight 8" marine speakers and #14 cable. No sub planned as of yet, really want to hear it before going that far. Total Dash redesign, little glass work here and there, and i think iv killed all the spiders.

  16. In the past I have had a thread locked due to being "Political". I was told that these always ended badly, ALWAYS. Well I'm glad to see that this is not true. I'm Proud to be associated with a group of people that can discuss political and social issues without fighting. I guess things have changed for the better in that respect. I also thank the Moderators for letting this thread run.

  19. So whats the deal with an impression that your system is sounding better all of the sudden ?? I refer specifically to my setup which admittedly is not the typical setup here on the forums, I have been reduced to using headphones exclusively (not complaining here as I can say that they definitely have some advantages) I have had Justins Kenzie amp for awhile and have under 200 hours on it, however I feel like I have a good grip on how it sounds My normal listening sessions consisted of a couple hours maybe 3 hours at best B-4 something came up, interruption is like the death nail of listening for me as I then lose interest Last week I started reorganizing my music files on J-River (Thanks Thad ) and let the setup play in excess of 8 hours a couple days in a row..................After the extended sessions I can hear more separation and air around the individual and instruments, the background has become so silent I literally thought my player had stopped and had to check the system, The inner detail has cleared up and decaay seems to hang out just a bit longer.............This will sound like iT SOUNDS LIKE A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT AMP I was never much of a believer in burn in for equipment, tubes, wires, cables etc.... Something has definitely changed and it is certainly for the better. I have been through countless systems and gear and to date I have never experienced a change like this, I feel like I dont want to change a thing and am now scared something will happen forcing me to lose the sound I have. I would like to hear others experiences and what piece of the system would be most likely responsible for this change (I personally lean twords the tubes coming into there oun) Color me Happy !!!!!!!!! Happy Holidays and God Bless

  20. Try Spotify to, their free service is higher quality then what you pay for with Pandora. Plus you can build play list and download music as well.

  24. Guys I checked the posts and found the one extremely loose on the jumper tightened it up and wa la it's fixed!!!! Thanks for your help! This speaker is close to my sub so I'll have to check it to make sure it doesn't keep doing it. Thanks again!!

  25. Not mine http://pensacola.craigslist.org/ele/4775282974.html I've contacted the owner to let her know more about the speakers. The speakers belong to her husband currently in a nursing home. She means to say that they have the metal horns, not cones. The woofer is indeed the original Klipsch woofer. The speakers have basic nicks for a pair of Hersey 1's.

  27. Maybe he has something at his house that he can eq with but doesn't want it out in his garage? And maybe all 4-5 star reviewers have never heard better speakers. Lots of people don't know any better. I thought the rc-64 was the best center channel ever. Till I heard better. It's all in perspective.

  28. Bugman53, Welcome to the forum. I too saw the $125.00/pair deal and thought about it for a bit but decided that for my computer desk, what I have sounds fine enough for now. Now, I may be ahead of myself but the combination of the Insignia receiver and small/medium bookshelf speakers with aluminum diaphragms in a concrete(assuming) walled environment of around 3000ft3(assuming), you may possibly get some crazy reflections that will alter the frequency response in a huge way. I know you said the R15M's sounded better with your Marantz/Adcom combo in doors with some manual EQ, but is this system in a "live" and large room also? Bill

  31. I also think there is a difference between political and social discussions. I think this topic could have gone either way, but discussion was kept 95% to discussing social issues. I say, good job everybody (including Klipsch mods).

  34. Thank you 7-5 Western Kentucky for eliminating the Marshall noise from the CFP discussion. Marshall's excellent season is noteworthy, but losing 67 - 66 to the Hilltoppers can only hint at the carnage that would have been inflicted by upon the Thundering Herd by Alabama, FSU or the rest of the CFP top 20.

  35. Just remember that if you do give to a charity, be sure to ask how much of the (money( actually goes to the intended recipient. I've seen these professional fund raisers leave the charity nearly high and dry.

  36. Here's info on that amp: http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/NU1000DSP.aspx A friend recently picked up a dsp 3000 and all the features are pretty cool. Amp seems to be a bit over rated (power output wise) but still good clean power and the 1000 should be plenty enough for your application.

  37. Welp, fixed the Volvo Wednesday before going over for Thanksgiving 50+ miles away. Returned last evening with a bite? from a spider on my leg. Internet showed may be a Recluse but walk in emergency said put cortisone cream on it. And if gets red, worse, etc, to fill an antibiotic script she wrote for me. Mad rush at Wally World had softened alot so I got script filled and picked up a tarp. Not for the window, as I used a garbage bag to cover for tonight. Maybe weather will moderate until I can get it up, and find replace parts. Abit of a chilly ride this afternoon. When it rains it pours. Volvo window would not rollup after doing an ATM today before doctor. Seems some flimsy plastic for the up/down button gave out recently, now the metal like plastic part broke. Could always be worse...I suppose. Now for a quiet evening with the cats and music. Heard Christmas music at Wal-Mart...imagine that.

Lookin like a total Rewire on the boat, today cutting access/hand holes. Outta Scotch, but there is no way im driving anywhere in this state today. Housewife hell on the roads in Kalif.

  42. NIMBY Stands for Not In My Back Yard. That is the fundamental reason for laws like this. Most people feel bad for the less fortunate, and definitely feel like something should be done to help them, just not in their back yards. You cannot recall a person who was elected by NIMBY's. I have spoken to many groups about this, and I always go back to the same thing. It is a quote from a minister here in town who said these words to me in a casual conversation. There have always been poor people. There will always be poor people. It is our job to take care of them. I do not give money to the people on the corner, because I know all of them in this area, and they do indeed spend that on alcohol and drugs. Instead I help feed them. One thing most of them need, especially this time of year, is boots or warm shoes. It is expensive, and there are many who take advantage of programs, and that's why they wear rags on their feet. Look down the next time you see somebody who is needy. As bad as they may look, their shoes will look worse. There are lots of things I can say, and the things I just said aren't the most important to me, but it gives you a little insight. My primary reason in getting deeply involved with the needy was that I was very uneasy around them. I am not at all any more. I would like more people to get to this point. People still wouldn't want it in their back yard, but they would see these folks as people just like they are. Many are addicts or alcoholics. Much of the time it is because they are mentally ill, and they self-medicate. Some are just too simple to take care of themselves, and some are geniuses. One thing they all have in common. They appreciate a good meal and a safe place to sit and eat it.

  46. JL subs are great. That enclosure will get it down low like you want it. The enclosure is designed SPECIFICALLY for this JL driver. Do not change the driver... You don't owe me anything. I enjoy doing stuff like this... Buy 3/4" MDF, and please be aware that these measurements for cut are based on 3/4" EXACTLY. The MDF will be slightly thinner than 3/4", so you will be doing some sanding and measuring based on dead reckoning. I did not include any bracing, but bracing will help stablize the cabinet. Use Locktite PL-Premium to glue and seal. The port MUST be exactly 1/2" tall; this is very important. Go download Sketchup, so you can open jlhomesub.zip in the attached files below this image. jlhomesub.zip
