  2. Good Sunday morning my coffee and music lovers.... Just poured some Starbucks FR into these rarely used mugs which go with a Thai dinnerware set, black satin finish. Another cozy morning on the inside, as the coffee steams and Bill Evans plays in the background while breakfast is being put together. Enjoy..... ;0) ......gw

  3. Wow slept in tell 830, then started breakfast. Step dad came over for breakfast nice long Vista. Kids will be off to a bday party for a couple of hours, so the wife and I will venture out for some window shopping. However I don't think I can convince her for pub stops such as Mark does. Worked on installing my dust collection system, last night. It's all wired up and filter bag hung, will have to wait a couple of weeks for more funds to run the duct work. Gary I forgot to take photos of the wonderful breakfast we had. Your photos are the definition for R&R. I always wondered how cozy it would be. To be snowed in on the English county side. With coffee and beautiful Klipsch heritage speakers, playing my favorite vinyl on a gorgeous tube receiver.

  6. I love this picture and I love fishing! Was this taken today, yesterday, or for that matter any time in the last two months? This is major fuel for relocating. I sold my ice auger and shanty in December. Ice fishing only keeps us Northern folks from going crazy. Your boy looks into it and ready to set the hook! How did you do?

  7. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I've got a good PR department though. Looks like low 70's coming up every day this week. 30's again next weekend. Of course everyone at work is sick. At a standstill with my latest build in the garage till I can get my son and a couple friends over to help me move it and stand it up. Definitely can't be done with 2 people safely. Ran out of Kona this morning so my wife picked up some Melitta. It's OK but I can tell I'm spoiled. So much for miscellaneous rambling thoughts. You guys have a good rest of the week end.

  8. Yes, it was taken today. We had a great time fishing all around Town Creek. Wind was blowing just enough to be a slight aggravation, but not too bad. Temp rose to about 62 F. Alas, we didn't catch a thing! Thanks for your kind comments! First time I've blanked in quite a while so guess I was due LOL.

  11. I think back to playing with cherry bombs, bb gun wars, wandering the fields with our shotguns as tweeners, being dropped far from home to camp in isolated woods by a river, and all the other things we did growing up and I suppose it is a miracle that I don't recall either any serious injuries or even a broken bone in the neighborhood growing up. I actually think most of our parents considered these thing acceptable risks and part of leaning how to survive and develop good judgment. "Good judgment comes from exercising bad judgment." Mixed emotions about today's "all of you are SPECIAL" and totally protective environment and personally quite glad I was raised in another time. Dave

Sat out on the porch in shorts and no shirt for an hour @66 degrees. Jake is tuckered after the dog park. LF playing tennis. Hang in there dtel....winter will be over soon.

  16. After 6 months of waiting, it finally worked out that a generous fellow on AudioKarma was on a trip to Austin and on his way back home to Kansas, offered to Pony Express them. My wife and I left at 5am this morning and met him in Ft Smith to pick them up. The finish on them is black satin and in kind of rough shape on top; faded/worn off, etc. the sides, fronts and backs are fine though. I may end up re-veneering them in Walnut, Oak, or maybr something more exotic. Not sure. Hell, I might even paint the tops, get some smoked tempered glass, and place those on top. So far, I don't hear cabinet rattle but I haven't gone nuts with them yet. Maybe when wife is outside. But even in stock form, they sound good. I'm just glad all the drivers are in perfect condition. Well worth the price paid by far.

  17. Seems to me if history had never created mankind on the face of the earth, the planet would have still gone through some heating & cooling cycles. Think of it as a sine wave curve. How far has mankind pushed the data-point off the curve? My take is, the planet itself is doing what it would have been doing, mankind involved or not. If (and I mean (*if*) mankind has bent the curve, I have a hard time believing that the curve will have been flipped upside down or anything other than a simple nudge. Heck....for all I know, if mankind HAS nudged the curve a bit.....who's to say that it's not a nudge in a direction that would be beneficial? Why is it that all the fear mongers (Global warming verses global cooling....now, they can't BOTH be right, right? So now they call it change.... nice) Anyways, why do all these fear mongers suggest that it's all negative? For all I know these would be the same fear mongers that 200 years ago, might have been screaming to fear the witch and the witch needs to be burned. How that that pan out for accuracy?

  18. I was on the phone for 2 hours and had it elevated to the highest level I could. Yesterday I was told "ASIS NO RETURNS" meant it was his, but call back to confirm. Today I was told that was wrong, so I called back and told it would have to be elevated again. I said go for it and got "the big guy" who said I would lose 99.99% of the time. I ate the $100. I'm tired of fighting, I've fought my whole life for what I thought was right ( I wasn't ALWAYS RIGHT, 99.99% of the time I was) I still stand up for the principle, but sometimes it wears me out. I know my word has always been good and my handshake will always be like a signed contract, that's all I have

  26. Dang, changed my mind. Popped a top...music is just too good to turn off. What a hoot. Semi retired at a tender age. Need to take a hike. 35 here now. Brisk! Have worked some in it. Kansas City Kansas was a really friendly place when travelled there in my youth-er. First step onto ground convinced me the Chuka boots may not have enough sole to ride the slippin slidin. May be crazy but, could dig spending a winter in a place cold as Maine, Minnesota. Cold weather in North Florida when younger created some memories which weather would most likely trigger. 20 above should trigger the event. Radio was talking about Deja Vu, not the album. Haven't had one lately...that I recall...lol

  27. If I came to a forum as a new member I would react the same way as you did, but please don't take the criticism the wrong way. A non-Klipsch K horn needs to be either a factory built speakerlab product (licensed by Klipsch and built to a high standard) or very meticulously built. The crossovers are very telling (I know they were built by someone else). The layout is sloppy and does not inspire confidence, especially where the bass bin needs to have some difficult cuts and it can be assumed was built in the same fashion as the crossovers. The horns also look "rough" at best and the use of particle board suggests that corners were cut. I am not trying to be critical to be a jerk (it was not your work), just do not have an unrealistic opinion of value. This type of audio really needs to be top notch to have value. These are probably worth the value of the drivers if they are all in good shape and work. Good luck with the sale.

  28. Jim, it's not just kids who are in the middle of the political correctness nonsense. Even insurance companies now consider us "covered entities." So, I guess we're not even human any longer............. And Dave, I'm with you. When I was a kid I had multiple sets of "parents" from the standpoint that if I did something wrong at a friend's house, their mom or dad could give me a wallop. Then, when I went home, my parents were already aware of what happened and I got it again from them! Try that today!!! Maynard

  29. Point a finger at a kid and say pow, and you get suspended, investigated, parents called, everything. Both my sons had this issue. I went to the school and cursed out the teachers and principal involved and demanded they be let back in school or sued. That was the only way they would back down. It's a shame how the Left winged radicals have changed things. There's schools now with no honor roll as parents complained their kid was stressed from having to try hard. There are schools where students can't have a best friend so as not to bully another kid for not having them as a friend. There are schools where they have adopted not calling a child boy or girl, but an animal name or they are "student" so there aren't any racist sayings as kids have it to hard on them to compete with being a boy or girl among their peers. Just a total shame how bad things have become, but on a good note, we have now gotten rid of all of those "needy" military personnel that have fought for us and replaced them with the much more needed illegal alien who gets a free drivers license, car insurance, business, money, housing, schooling, and get their green card for having a baby here. And we get the new attorney general saying they deserve to take our jobs.

  30. Well two amps showed up today. I ordered two XPA-1L Gen 2's. What showed up was these two monsters! I called Emotiva and let them know about their $800 mistake. I played with them for a while, but unfortunately one overheats in Class A and shuts down after a few minutes. Man they are sweet! Long story short I let Emotiva know about their little $800 plus mistake- because I'm an honest dude. They are sending return labels and will be shipping my XPA-1L's on Monday. But man the XPA-1 Gen2's have cool dancing lights! I was hoping they would say keep them and we will send you a replacement unit. Ohhhhh well- lol

  31. The tops don't seal, but the bass bin is within 1/8 to a 1/4 inch. Not sure why they cut the tops shorter than the bass bin. First Khorns ever! But to seal them better I might add some pipe insulation. They have enough bass that I have my R-115SW's off for music. Incredible sound! Big thanks and love to my wife for letting me get such HUGE speakers! BOOM!

  32. I recently had the opportunity to purchase an entire Klipsch RF-7ii System (read about it here). After bringing home the new speakers, I knew I had to bring the RF family together to see how they compared in a 2ch configuration. I brought the RF-83's from the HT into the living room and also the RF-7ii's. As with every purchase, I took several photos before I even hooked them up to listen (strange I know but I really love photographing Klipsch speakers). After getting them setup, I demoed many CD's and Concert DVD's and here is what I concluded. RF-7 - Brightest and most detailed sounding of the three. Very "forward" sound. RF-83 - Most laid back sound of the three. Very soft, silky sound. Very soothing and beautiful. RF-7ii - Not as bright as the RF-7's but not near as laid back as the RF-83's. I loved the sound of all three for 2ch. All three had a great amount of bass, midrange was delightful and the highs were full of clarity and detail. I've never claimed to have a "critical ear" nor have I ever claimed to be anything near an "audiophile". This is just what my simple ears heard. Honestly, I would be VERY happy with any of these three speakers in my living room and if the wife would let me, I would have loved to keep all three pair in the living room. But since I already have the RF-7's in my son's bedroom and the RF-83's in the HT, I decided to sell my newly purchased Cherry RF-7's and keep the newly purchased RF-7ii's for the 2ch living room. The RF-7ii's are absolutely beautiful. I love the copper color of the woofers moreso than the gold color on the RF-83's. The front wood veneer looks very classy and even the 2/3 speaker grill is starting to grow on me. I even like the feet (which I originally did not like from the photos I saw online).

  33. I don't know how often it has been said that the K-400 is one of the design features in a Khorn that can be improved on. So once I got alternatives (Altec 511B or EV-120SM) I never bothered about the original. Some months ago I must have read a bit about Paul Klipsch here in the history section and well, why not give those K-400 a try. I admit I didn't expect much - definitely not much of a positive impression. But lo and behold, compared to the Altec I find the K-400 in do way inferior. It has a different tone which actually strikes me as warmer (as if it is more suitable to the crossover frequency to the bass than the Altec).....or my hearing curve has changed (after all I am not getting any younger.... ). I certainly do not hear "glare" or "harshness" - attributes often connected to the K-400. On the contrary - I actually find the Khorns more balanced overall than using the Altec horn. Will that be my horn of choice from now on? Experience suggests that taste in sound reproduction changes and who knows what I am going to try in the future. I think what has made me change my reaction to the K-400 is also related to other (non-horn) speakers which might have opened my ears to different (but also valid) ways of presenting music. Anyway, I am wondering: am I the only one here who has made such an experience? How many of you have actually retried the once discared components and seen them in a new light (so to speak)? Wolfram

  37. Here's a scan from a 1955 Leonard Radio Catalog I have. These catalogs are exceedingly hard to come by. I've got a number of them here. In 1955 the average salary in the US was $4100, today it's about $45,000 a multiple of ~11X when compared to 1955. That would put the Patrican IV at about $7800/each or about $15k/pr which is not that much more than a pair of Klipschorns today (granted there are size and some cabinet differences but the labor is largely in the folded horn section.

Jordan said that Coach Smith was the most influential person in his life behind only his parents. Here is a peek at Dean Smith's recruitment letter to Jordan.

  41. I'm not familiar with the Outlaw preamp... But unless you are forced to use the same crossover frequency for all of your speakers, I'd set the Cornwalls a bit lower (at least 40Hz, maybe even 35Hz) to take advantage of their output. Even setting them to "large" and running them full range for music would be fine. As Mustang Guy mentioned, 50Hz would be a good frequency for the Heresy. You only mentioned the "enhanced stereo mode". But if you are also listening to movie soundtracks (Dolby Digital or True HD) at relatively loud volumes. You might consider bumping the center Heresy crossover to 60Hz, since there is so much content in those channels. For just music, you could even set them all to large and run all 5 channels at full range to see what it sounds like. At "normal" volumes it's not going to hurt anything to try it out. In the end, what sounds best to your ears in your room is what counts.

  42. I have gone back and forth in my own configuration with my LaScala setup and an Integra preamp, and I set my cutoff at 50 for them. Any higher than that, and they didn't hit bass hard enough for my taste. Now a LaScala is already rolled off by 4db at 53hz naturally. Adding more roll off higher than that seems wrong anyway. It really doesn't matter, it didn't sound right, and that's what it's all about. PS: I don't think 50 is right for a Cornwall II. Sounds good for a Heresy.

  49. @ wstrickland1 Did you not just describe the RC 7? Yeah, that's exactly what i want. i ve just searched for it in klipsch site, it is discontinued for a long time. And i wonder why klipsch doesnt continue to make a center speaker like that for the new reference line.
    1 point
  50. Pretty close to what you want Its tweeter is horn - loaded, is it a klipsch? I dont think so, the women voices of my RF-82ii is excellent. In fact, the male voice of RC-64II is great and better than the vast number of center speaker in the same price range. But i think that the RF-82II is even better. It's not the quantity of bass that concerns me, its the quality. Yes its a KLF-C7. You can find them on ebay in the $300ish range 99db sensitivity with dual 8's and it has a larger horn. They should have expanded on this one instead of nixing it
