  1. There's a story on Yahoo's main page "12 Ways You're Making Your Coffee Wrong". May want to look at it further later. Our by laws require that we mention cables in this thread every 60 days so is anyone still using cables? How about power cords? Speaker wire? Or are we all wireless now? Looking at other threads I saw a table tuba....looked interesting. Are those the folded horn subs? Retirees.....it's Tuesday......go on back to bed. Painting continues....like the color. HK amp packed and ready to go to FedEx. Going to double box with another FedEx box. Remember the time I bought a TT from a Canadian named Vladimir who used wadded newspaper as packing Cheers :emotion-44:Gents

  5. Congratulations on the sale. The HK A500 is a really nice integrated and you offered it up at a great price. I was going to post a few specs for you and a headphone modification; however, before I got a chance to log in the amp was sold. Not completely wireless. How is this for the requirement? Late breaking news hot off the presses on why premium cables cost so much!

  6. You are definitely a creature of habit ! Your going to need some road trips in the future, to spend some serious $, cave shopping, think space, as to stay out of trouble. Yes we do miss the road trips for speaker runs, however with the impending retirement of the wife coming up here short time, like less than 60 days, Reno runs are planned, real estate search must happen, oh yeah, she wants a new car too.

This is getting old, but it's only March and our water supplies should be in good shape for the summer. Check back in a while. Have a good day guys. Chuck

  11. Yes. Here's what they look like inside (from one of my builds). You can finish them however you like. TABLE TUBA I remember that build, well done, that picture really helps explain the design. To me excluding the IB I think a folded horn is the next best design.

  14. What jason str said... Nothing like a folded horn on QUIET bass. Big leiblich geideckt organ pipes. Yeah, I know most have no clue what I am talking about but these are LOW, and they are quiet. Folded horn can provide an experience virtually identical to being there. Boxes and ports tend luff and sound like subwoofers. Basically, the same thing that makes horns good for everything else as well. Organic...as it were. Dave

  20. Good day my friends...... Excellent topics / conversations today... (tuba project!!) Lunch time here, but too lazy to drive out, so, I had our wonderful office gal run to D&D's for me with my card.... I needed to replenish my personal coffee supply. So, just brewed this up, it is actually pretty good ;0) So was the chocolate croissant ! Oh, I will be shopping for some interconnects for the vintage rig.... Believe it or not, the long runs (12') to the mono blocks are from Home Depot and are dead silent ! May just pick a few shorty pairs for stuff in the rack so it all matches... (0; Yes, those are restored pipe organ parts in the background.... Enjoy the day everyone :0)) .....Gary

  21. That's correct. He may have an 8" driver (I'm not sure) as opposed to the 10" in mine but it's the same sub. Basically, build the sub and put whatever finish on it that you want. I believe the plans call for the driver opening to be within a couple inches of the floor/wall and his is quite a bit more than that. I may not be an audible difference however. Horns need less power than conventional subs. I'm driving a dual 8" driver box with a BASH 300 watt plate amp. It's plenty.

  24. Yamaha is tough to beat in my ear. Great detail with modern music. The best of their stereo receivers is about $500. It is the R-S700. If you want to go separates, Yamaha does offer integrated amps, and you can name a price there. They run between about $350 - $7000. If you want t stream stuff, they also offer a network receiver, the R-N500. Bryant

  28. To me, horn subs ( four tapped horns in my case) don't sound like subs at all. It's easy to forget they're even there when the music (or movie) lacks bass content. When bass is present, even at low volume, you feel and hear it. Khorns do the same thing, they just stop at a higher frequency. Contrast that with ported or sealed that, to me, always remind me they're there. To some degree it's a setup issue and matter of personal preference. The gain can be turned up on horn subs to the point they always announce their presence. Likewise, the gain can be turned down on ported or sealed to the point you forget they're there. Unfortunately, in my experience, they then don't remind you they're still there when real musical bass is present, at least not like horn subs. To me, I always hear subs, unless they're horn subs.

  41. I agree with the receiver dropping when in 5.1 or higher, but if your Fusion is running at a real 65x7,that's a lot more efficient than 75 down to 40. Remember also, your speakers are RF, not Synergy. Different crossover. We have similar speakers, both you and I, as well as the OP and I. If I am mistaken, my info comes from Yamaha, Onkyo, Denon, and Klipsch. And I can say none of my receivers heat up, nor do I have any clipping. To the OP, do you get any small popping, or almost like it goes in and out or "skips"? Or stays at a certain level? It may also do with the C-10 not matching up as well as a C-20 would.

  43. Well your Sony doesn't specify if that's 90 RMS all channels driven or not...so there's a good chance it's yielding something short of that...considerably even. Klipsch are extremely efficient speakers that can respond well with even a small amount of power being run to them. I'd recommend getting ahold of a more beefy/quality receiver. There's some nice options out there from Denon and Onkyo that might fit your budget and sound much better - even might put the power ratings to shame. Check out Accessories4Less for example to get some nice deals. Good luck.

  45. I guess I am confused. I have owned a pair of K-Horns for about 10 years (early 80's version). I have also had Klipsch jubilee bass bins with either a 510 horn up top and now a K402 horn up top. In my house (tried 3 different rooms) there is no contest. The Jubilee systems clearly out-perform the K-Horn. I loved the sound of K-Horns, but the Jubilees are better. As I recall, you have all the pieces required to set up the Jubilees, What is the difficulty? Reach out and we can help you. -Tom
