Evening Gang Considering all iv been drinking coffee for the last few weeks, and now on the road doing the same, this forum is my entertainment. Dont really drink much, or Gamble, however when i cant do one without the other, im Board. Currently sitting in the Bookie Lounge of the peppermill smokin a fat Maduro, man would some single Malt go good right about now. Time to hit Starbucks, im feelin Fiesty.. ....

Good Afternoon from Reno Drinking different coffee(s) all day, just after i gave the Bookie back his laptop, the wifes comes to me with a winning ticky $1300 cash out, and we walk the town, Bookie told me about a Pawn shop that has a bunch of Pcs and Laptops, got a beater with WiFi here, im on right now $60 bucks! Ok so Half the letters on the keys are almost worn off so there maybe an errant misspell coming. But at least i can Chime in daily. This Beater Laptop also ONLY works wile plugged in to an outlet, and the screen has a slight crack in the corner, (Dropped?)

I don't think two way speakers are any closer to being a single point source. However, they do have a simpler crossover and fewer drivers. In this way, they can sound more pure and direct than a three+ way speaker, all things being equal. As in all things audio, it's more about the execution of the design than the design itself. Shakey

Most of Easter weekend went okay. Dinners with LF and her two college girl relatives. Both cuties. Cooked salmon, sweet potatoes, apple crisp on the Green Egg.....zucchini fries in the oven. Bike rides, outside Jacuzzi, yard work. Then......leaving LF's house I was pulled over by HP for a rolling stop at the neighborhood stop sign that goes onto the main public highway. $238 ticket. Talked with Earl a bit about options. Don't want points Oh well....... Cheers Gents

Should be a fine day with a high of 64, despite the threat of the impending final "winter storm" of the season, as the news reports. Only in SoCal does the mere chance of some form of precipitation, which is usually little more than a mist, make headline news.

Morning all. Had a great day yesterday but ate/drank way too much. Crawfish were incredible as well as all the sides. The weather wasn't all that great but there was plenty of cover. Looking forward to only working 2 1/2 days this week and heading to Tyler, then Hope by Friday. I need to give my liver a break between now and then. There'll be substantial drinking going on in Hope but I've been training hard for it and feel up to the challenge. Can't wait to see everyone that's coming.

Attitude is everything. When i lived in Michigan there was this middle-aged guy that had some sort of developmental disability…he could still get around and do minor things for himself; but, you could tell that he had some issue. He went to the church I attended. He was unkempt, dressed in baggy pants and t-shirts. One day, the pastor and deacons pitched in and bought him new clothes…nice slacks, button up shirts and belt. When they gave them to him he was so excited, saying how great great this was because he knew somebody that needed some new clothes. The guy never once considered that the stuff was for him and only thought about someone else he knew that was in need. Not 100% applicable here; but, just making my point that attitude is key. Keep looking for the silver lining guys.

Isn't there grad school housing at St. Louis? I went back to Law School when I was way over 25 and lived in Graduate housing with my wife and 4 year old. There were undergrads there who were "older" as well. At 25 I believe you are an "emancipated" student, meaning it is only your income (and not a parents income or assets) which are used for financial aid. Maybe this is not a help, but most financial aid offices take into account extraordinary events. I believe that there are deferrals for such circumstances for federal loans. Maybe St. Louis isn't the right place. Only you know that. I went back to undergrad school at 24 so I know it isn't easy, and you can feel out of place. I did. However, it was more than worth it. I respect you for helping your mother. It is a sign of true character and will serve you well during your life. With respect to your mother's disability claims, I of course do not know the details and am not asking. However, if she is permanently and totally disabled, she is entitled to social security disability benefits. It is VERY common to be denied at the first step. You may want to see a lawyer. They cannot charge you unless they win the case, and I believe that their fee is capped at about $7,000 paid from the proceeds of the claim (I think this is right). Be careful because this is an area of the law where attorneys survive on volume. Interview a few and ask if any former clients would agree to speak with you. There are also non-attorney representatives who are allowed to practice in this area. They are usually ex-Social Security Administration reps. I am an employment attorney, but this is not an area in which I practice, nor do I know any employment attorneys who do practice in this area. I have represented two friends before SS. who had severe disabilities so I have some understanding of the law in this area. My son and I have always enjoyed the Fast & Furious movies so last night, I took him and a friend to see Furious 7. I have never seen a movie in IMAX so I figured this might be the perfect opportunity to see what IMAX was about. When we first walked into the theater, I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought it might be like the dome shaped screen at MOSI (Museum of Science and Industry). To my surprise, it was a huge 16:9 format screen. The screen didn't look ridiculously huge like I expected but then I realized it was considerably larger since it was a much larger room to begin with and it was wall to wall screen. One of my Adult Leaders at my church recommended me sitting on the back row (that wasn't happening) due to the screen being too large to view. I ended up sitting in the middle of the theater where I usually sat. Another thing that surprised me was there were no visible speakers. I wasn't sure what to think of this since there were curtains on the wall. I wondered if the curtains would "taint" the sound quality. The previews looked pretty grainy and sometimes even pixelated but I figured that may be due to the fact that if they were standard 1080p shooting on a IMAX projector, they might just be getting stretched. No biggie. So the lights dim and the "IMAX Demo" begins. Ok...I'm smiling. Although they didn't use masking for top and bottom, the grey bars faded once the movie began. Image quality is superb and the sound is better than I have ever heard in that Movie Theater! Visually and Audibly, it was a great experience. The movie itself was fantastic! The action sequences were powerful, creative and fresh. Sometimes you would have two action sequences going on at the same time so there was no down time. The sound was crystal clear with bass that was felt. Visually, the IMAX was beautiful. Tons of detail, clarity and the colors were vibrant. I think it's safe to say that the IMAX has spoiled me just like Bluray spoiled me over Standard DVD. Not sure I'll do IMAX for every movie, but for the big ones like the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron, I'll very likely be hitting the IMAX again. If you haven't seen Furious 7, I would highly recommend it. I've always been a fan of Vin Diesel and The Rock. Jason Statham did a great job as the villain. Overall lots of laughs, great characters, fast cars, lots of explosions and a heart felt tribute to the late Paul Walker.

Tickets suck, a rolling stop in a subdivision, but with everyone driving talking and texting, they will just look the other way. Came up to a red light the other day and in the next lane they just drove on through as they stared at a phone, just luck no one was crossing.

I agree with this. There was a thread topic on the forum somewhere that stated, “We live in the midrange.” I’m not sure if that quote is a PWK original quote, but I’ve heard it used a lot. What "we live in the midrange" means to me is that the “backbone” of any full range speaker is probably related to getting the mid-bass and mid-frequencies right. If this band is not right, the rest is probably irrelevant until the backbone is fixed.

$238.00 for a rolling stop, ouch! Seems a bit high. Hopefully you get an easier/cheaper solution.

Our "not so meager" offerings this Easter. Slow cooked brisket, elote, roasted potatoes and carrots with garlic and spring onion, the requisite deviled eggs, and fresh herb salad with beets and tomatoes. Dessert (not pictured) was a light Angel Food Cake with crushed pineapples (baked inside) and whipped cream. Thanks to Mrs. Boxx for making this Easter meal fabulous. We make a great team.

Don't spend a fortune: get a sub cable from Parts Express.com or Monoprice.

That's "The Placebo Effect". If you were to strip the jacket off of a "subwoofer cable" and compare it to these other cables that you can use, then you'd find that they are pretty much identical inside. Consider this: you can use plain old lamp cord (the power cord for lamps) as speaker wire because the term "sound signal" is just a simpler way of saying "electricity that gets sent to the speakers and vibrates the drivers in those speakers for the purpose of vibrating the air so that we can hear it as sound". So, it's not that sound is being sent through the speaker wires or subwoofer cables, it's that electricity is being passed through them. This is why you can use a USB port to do different things, like provide sound to a device or to recharge a device. The only difference is how that electricity is used by whatever is "requesting" it. So, just like MonoPrice is saying in that FAQ section that I asked you to read, calling a cable "a subwoofer cable" is marketing hype. It's bait. They want you to buy their cable so that you don't give your money to someone else selling the exact same type of cable under it's TRUE name, which is far more complex than just "a subwoofer cable". If you were to buy "a subwoofer cable", then you'd be getting this exact same type of cable. You could use it for all the same things as this cable. Which one would you rather have? Knowing what you know now though, I am hoping that you would rather have the first one because there's no additional benefits other than maybe the cable lasting longer in harsher climates and harsher setups. Most people though would say that the second one here is far better because of its looks. It's thicker and has better connectors. Yet, about 99% of people will not get an audible difference between these two unless we're talking about extremely long cable runs. Even then, it might still be difficult to hear a difference. So yeah, please don't allow manufacturers to fool you with their lies. Don't allow the fooled customers to fool you because any differences they think they are hearing are simply due to The Placebo Effect. I mean, think about it: they can see the difference in the cables. Right? They can SEE IT. Therefore, they will automatically assume that the audio quality will different and that actually changes how you listen to the sound. Try this for yourself: buy a super expensive very high-end super high-quality cable and and also buy the worst one that you can find. Now, have someone swap these back and forth on you while you have your eyes closed. Tell them to make sure you can't predict which one they are using. Now, try to guess which cable they have connected to your system after 10 or 20 different tries. I'll tell you how accurate you will be: you will get it right approximately 50% of the time because you won't be able to hear a difference. After this, now do it yourself so that you know which cable it is each time you swap. This time, you will always think that the more expensive cable sounds better because of The Placebo Effect. We humans will believe almost anything, and we even have the power to make something seem to be absolutely true due to how strongly we believe it to be true. Here's something that I had to do in order to avoid The Placebo Effect. After buying the ProMedia 2.1 system, I was having a tough time deciding between having the satellite speaker grills on or off. On one hand, I like them on because of the cool black and gold logo on the grills. On the other hand, I want them off because I enjoy being able to see the woofers and the tweeters. So, I decided instead to see if I could hear a difference. Therefore, I closed my eyes and kept removing and putting the grills back on over and over and over and over. After a few times, I began to notice that I could hear a clearer sound with the grills off. Again, I was keeping my eyes closed in order to avoid being influenced by the LOOK of my satellites. Here's another placebo effect in action. I needed an adapter that allows me to plug the 3.5mm plug into the stereo RCA jacks on my sound card. Instead of just getting the cheapest adapter I could find, I went with this: http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=102&cp_id=10218&cs_id=1021815&p_id=5612&seq=1&format=2 Talk about overkill. LOL The only thing I'm using this for is the super weak, unamplified electrical signal that's going from my sound card to the speakers. However, I enjoy looking at it. It makes me feel good, and it makes me think that my sound is a little better when the reality is, I'm not getting any audible benefit from using this instead of some cheap generic cable. So yeah, as long as the cable can bring the signal to your subwoofer without harming that signal, it will work. That means, it doesn't have to be advertised as "a subwoofer cable". In reality, there is no such thing as "a subwoofer cable". It's really just a coaxial cable! Hell, you could take your cable TV cable and put these RCA-style plugs on the ends and you'd get the exact same results in sound out of your subwoofer. That's why MonoPrice.com doesn't have a special section for "Subwoofer Cables". They don't really truly exist. What you use the cable for determines what you can call it. Notice the different uses for this type of cable: "S/PDIF, Digital Coax, Subwoofer and Composite Video". You could use a cable that's being sold as "a subwoofer cable" for the same things because iit's really the same. I apologize for the length, but I just want to make absolutely sure that you are no longer being fooled by the clever marketing tricks of some of these manufacturers and stores.

I have listened to lots of smaller speakers and like them but you cannot keep distortion low at high levels with them and they lack dynamics. Different size drivers sound different I agree. My favorite compromise happens to be a ten (a lot of bass players love tens too). The higher crossover point is to protect the tweeter drivers and is a compromise as far as bass quality goes but not a huge one. For quality bass a lower crossover is preferred in fact this (with suitable mid driver) will result in improved low male vocal range. This is why with full size horn loaded rigs you will find horn running from 60 - 80 Hz up. I am sorry but you are very much wrong the rule applies always will apply it would be physically impossible not to. Steeper crossover slopes likely have more to do with it than you suspect in the RF series compared to the KLF. The differences in frequency response is not an issue here. Mid and Hi frequency balance have a lot to do with perceived bass quality. Did you ever swap out the poly tweeter diaphragms in your KLF30 for Bob's titanium diaphragms or even for a set of phenolic diaphragms? I too prefer a good two way over a good three way. That having been said I would not choose an RF3 tweeter horn over the horns in a KLF30 provided they were running titanium diaphragms. This whole thing might be a combination of things for you and driver size as I spoke about could well be a part of your preference. Some times though designers do special things. I have a set of JBL L200B which are two ways with a single fifteen inch and a trumpet horn loaded comp driver they can and do make magic happen when you listen to them so there are exceptions. I hope that you like your new speakers but if not there are so many more to own and enjoy while you are on your journey toward finding the right ones for you. Best regards Moray James.

One setup that was very "jub-like" that I have heard was Cigarbum's Khorn setup that had some home built false corners with his Khorn bass bins set inside. Some of the best Khorns I have ever heard and very tight "in your face" clear clean bass. And of course if you want something that sounds considerably better than a Jubilee just look at my avatar.

Sorry to hear the bad news gift that keeps on giving. I feel your pain. I have had a black cloud following me since 2012. 2012 - Had to get extremely painful series of rabies shots after bat interaction. 2013 - Came down with mystery illness and dropped 40 lbs in two months, fever, sweats, no apetite, etc...was misdiagnosed as lymphoma. Never figured it out but doctors dismissed it after the wieght started coming back on and I started feeling better. They guessed it was a strain of the flu. 2014 - Stepson commited suicide at age 25 and shocked all of us. Been with him since he was 2 yrs old. 2015 - One of my best friends just died last month from flesh eating bacteria and my wife's best friend just got diagnosed last week with breast cancer. Please, do as I am Ibiza, keep heavy on the prayers. Hopefully things will work out. Sending thoughts and prayers to you and pulling for you! Tim

Jason, It is easier to remember if you know what the initials stand for. They called the MCM 1900 "The Montengator" If you look up the word Montengator, it is a mythical creature, a large Alligator with 2 heads, one at each end and the beast is eternally pissed off because it cannot take a crap. The first letter in each piece is the letter "M", and that stands for Motengator! In the case of the MWM Bass bin, it stands for "Motengator Woofer Module!" Does it make more sense to you now? Roger
