Evening Gang Sittin in my Fav Bar w/Coffee and Rocky Road Casino is doing a good job beating the wife up. Easy day, wired in 11 fixtures 13 to go. Forum looks calm leading up to Hope Gathering, that should be a party. I learned sometime back if your going to be in a casino for a week, and you have a fav place to hang out, tip the person $20 as soon as they are on you, iv have service here like a high roller, even get reports from the floor on how/where the wife is7 points

Got my yard mowed this morning as I won't be able to do it this weekend. I'm meeting a bunch of speaker nerds in another state. Yeah, I know, it sounds weird but everyone has to have a hobby I suppose. Leaving after lunch to see my brother 3 hours north of here so Friday's drive will be basically cut in half compared to if I left from here. I'll check in from time to time.4 points

Welcome me to the KPT904M club. Times 3. Complimented with THX sub system and a three pack of KPT250 side surrounds... it's time to get a build plan for a basement theater this summer!3 points

How many besides me have regular "music nights"? A "music night" is defined as an entire evening dedicated to NOTHING other than sitting in the sweet spot, sipping a favorite libation, and listening to music. Absolutely nothing else. I like to have them 2 or 3 times a week when possible. As for me last night was one. The first in a while considering a recent move. I've missed them. But I sincerely enjoyed last night. My neighbors? Well... Not so much. Too bad. Last night was a mix of Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler, Carlos Santana, and Ottmar Liebert. Yes... I like "guitar" music.2 points

Now that there is funny, I don't care who you are. Don't know where this was but here in California these folks get paid good money and GREAT retirement benefits. Oh but they work so hard and are so smart.2 points

Hi, First post here - Moray James asked me over in diyAudio to take a look at the University Classic and reverse engineer the driver parameters. I have built the Akabak model with all the turns and expansions and contractions - this horn is super efficient, with a decent driver it can make 130dB+ at xmax but problem is the tuning frequency is a modest 75Hz. I find it rather tolerant of different drivers and certain modestly priced modern pro audio drivers can really make it rock. I will post results tomorrow. There is a very simple mod that will take this down to 60Hz without too much loss of sensitivity. Cheers, X2 points

Heresy Industrial Slant Monitors (HISM) is what those are with the metal trim, Moray. Mine were just HDBL speakers with an industrial Heresy motorboard (what the grill is attached to) added by Gwin Cox, to keep my adopted cat from clawing the woofers. HIP are Heresy Industrial PORTED.2 points

no fair making fun of dead people. It was probably the “Jackass” that kept us alive. Take the stuff from the bottom of a wine barrel and run through a still -- strongest stuff you’ll ever drink. We called it the Jackass and even the old folks did shots of it. Fun times.I am pretty sure I did not make fun of dead people. Would maybe have a drink of jackass though2 points

of course... I have always rowed or shoveled my own. the TL I traded in was the first Automagic I have ever purchased and I thought I was ready for the big slow down and sailing off into the sunset... I guess the answer was no way because I only had that car for about 2.5 months before looking elsewhere. this thing is EVERYTHING that is advertised... specially with the performance package of brembos and 3.73 gearing. needs to be lowered a bit... and many other things, but I think I will live with a simple drop for a little while.2 points

Count the peaks per millisecond on the IR plot. This is the exact plot type where I discovered the 14 kHz chatter (...actually ringing...) of the K-69-A drivers, and why my center JuBelle is now a three-way instead of a two-way, crossing the titanium-diaphragm drivers over at 8 kHz to a Beyma CP25. When I did that, the ringing stopped completely, and it also sounded a lot better. I couldn't see that in the waterfall or the decay plots, but it was right there in the impulse plot - big as Dallas. However, I can see the motor and fan noise from my refrigerator 35 feet away and the fan in my laptop in the waterfall plot. These are much lower frequencies - below 250 Hz. I assume that the 4 kHz ringing in your REW file is probably a projector or something else like a disc drive that is sustaining at 4 kHz. I can't imagine the subs ringing at 4 kHz.1 point

Thanks! I thought this was project was *totally* within the scope of my abilities until I b*tched the grills up with that sealant paint. At that point, I started to sweat a little. Glad they came out like they did—I’m pretty happy with the finished product. Now all I have to do is convince the wife that they’ve been on the wall like that since we moved in...I can’t believe she never noticed them!1 point

The reason why I suggest moving the fronts toward the front wall is that the front wall refection delay will decrease -- and if you get within 0.7 ms, the human listening system (the ear and brain) starts to treat the reflected energy differently than if the delay is between 0.7 and 20 ms. It's a precedence effect thing. Even though the front wall reflections are stronger with the fronts closer to the front wall, the ear will forgive you that indiscretion if you can get the delay short enough. This is why corner horns work as well as they do - the side wall delayed reflections are less than 0.7 ms. It is a myth that placing rear ported loudspeakers within a foot of the wall is somehow "bad". You only need to provide enough clearance to not materially load the port with "chuff" air reflections under impulsive bass conditions, and that interaction is very insensitive to objects placed in the near field. I've got my TH sub mouths chocked up against the back of the Jubs, such that the exit port from the sub is formed by the back of the Jub and the side wall, looking up at the ceiling, thus increasing the effective path length of the horn by an additional 3 feet, This lowers the Fc of the subs so that they are about -3dB at 14.5 Hz. Assuming that your RF-3 II's have good enough polar control, you'd want to toe in your fronts so that the centerline of the loudspeakers cross in front of your listening position by at least 2 feet. Why? If you are listening off-axis left or right, toeing them in more acutely will put the farthest loudspeaker centerline more on-axis to your off-center listening position, (on the side opposite the centerline between the loudspeakers from your LP) pointed more directly at your ears, while the closest loudspeaker will be directed more acutely away from your ears. This partially corrects for your off-center listening position. Try it. Your "sweet spot" should be about double width once you get it right. Chris1 point

Thanks guys. For my sanity I am trying to keep it between the 3100w and x4000 now. I feel like I'm just opening up pandora's box by bringing more models in the picture. I guess it just comes down to I have to decide if HDMI 2.0 with 4K 60fps and Multi EQ XT on 3100w is the way to go. Or no HDMI 2.0 but HDMI 1.4 with 4k 24/30 fps Multi EQ XT-32 with the x4000 is the way to go. Better HDMI vs. better EQ. Now the actual benefit of 24/30 fps vs. 60 fps is beyond me. I don't know when the higher frame rate comes in to play (I've read most 4k movies are 24 fps but what about streaming content). I don't have a 4K TV currently but I know I will eventually get one and plan on keeping this receiver a long time. That's really what I am debating at this point.1 point

I had a pair of Forte ll's once......swore they were the worse speakers I had ever heard. Sold them a week later to a guy that basically had almost every Klipsch Heritage speaker throughout his house including K-horns. I brought him the Forte ll's, we hooked them up and Directly compared them to the properly placed K-horns and without hesitation I strongly thought the Forte ll's sounded so much better.....and they were just plopped down randomly without any placement concerns. I've had this experience with so many different Klipsch models.......I don't know what to think anymore other than I think you just have to get the particular speaker WORKING PROPERLY, in YOUR ROOM, with YOUR EQUIPMENT and decide from there. All of my KG's have really good mid-bass.....but put them side-by-side with some KLF-20's/30's and the difference is night and day. I had KLF-20's/30's, RF-7's, Forte's, Chorus ll's all in my room at the same time. I chose the 30's by a large margin but I have to wonder since the other speakers (except the RF-7's) were all 10-20+ years old that age and some other unknown limiting factors were at play due to age. Your comment on RF-3's is interesting because I've read plenty of threads claiming the opposite.....that they lack bass. If I remember correctly you had a list a mile long of tweaks/mods that you made to your 30's. You may want to re-evaluate that list......I've found that keeping the 30's very close to what Klipsch had originally (besides the defects) was the ticket. Just my opinion and I know you've put a lot of effort in them but maybe something to consider. Usually making a change isn't necessarily better....it's just 'different'....giving the illusion that it might seem better......bet there's no doubt that the 3's may just work better in 'your' room with 'your' gear with 'your' ears etc. etc....1 point

I've owned several pairs of KSP-300's for over 10 years. I use them for surrounds with KSP-400's and a C6 center speaker. The surrounds are rubber. Check E-Blay occasionally for another pair of surrounds. They pop up from time to time. Here is info from this site regarding the tweeter: TWEETER: K-97-KV 1" (2.54cm) Polymer dome compression driver HIGH FREQUENCY HORN: 6" square 90(o)x60(o) Tractrix® Horn Go to the E-Boy home page and search klipsch ksp' and you should see an ad for rebuilt amps/with exchange for $125 plus shipping. I doubt Klipsch has any parts for these speakers but it doesn't hurt to check. Hope you enjoy your new speakers. Keith1 point

You don't need multiple channels....just send the full signal through the Marantz like you've been doing. Just turn the subwoofer power off when testing the mains, and then disconnect the speaker cable going to the mains when testing the sub...1 point

Know what Clueless did while I was in the combat theater in the desert? First, she regularly sent her home-made munchies to us...then I started getting hand-knitted afghans from her and handing them out to the fellow soldiers for their bunks...they really helped out a lot...they were considered prized possessions and war trophies and I am sure all of them were sent home by the troops who got them! She also sent things like tinactin and such...pretty much anything I told her we couldn't get over there. WHAT A GAL!1 point

Hey folks... on a fast (for me) track today but wanted to check in. Outdoor carpeting project looks great. Should be good for many years. Flip flopping week for weather so painting projects are on hold for a few days. Mark..try some of that crab on the banana split. You might pioneer a new food trend! Later ..............1 point

At the risk of being "slammed" here, I will say my all time favorite Klipsch speaker set up is our custom built MWM/402 combination, followed by Cornwall IIIs, with the LaScalla IIs in a heated race. The Jubs are right behind them! That being said the 60th Anniversary Khorns are a sight to behold in person....probably one of the most beautiful pair of speakers I have ever seen.1 point

Only for those who care, and I do. Actually, the listening areas remained quite focused last year most of the time. What's the point in a gathering of Heritage heads listening to compressed stuff? If the discussion gets to overriding the music, time for a change of music IMHO. Dave1 point

I'm proud to be a member here also. Thank you Michael for sharing your thoughts, as well as your experience with each of us. Even when I am not present on this forum very little goes on with each of you that Dtel doesn't share with me. The friendships here are truly meaningful and many of us have become life long friends. This my why even after nine years I am still drawn to the members of this forum. Our lives are better for knowing each one of you.1 point

Yeah, I heard Khorns when I was 14 and I had my fiancee co-sign for a loan to get them when I was 23. I was hooked on horns way before then, but admittedly, no one did it better the PWK. I enjoyed my 3-channel setup (LaScala in the middle) for 30 years. I always needed two stereo ampsand I still have the little resistor box that I built way back when to get the adjustable mono in the middle. I asked Jim Hunter at last year's pilgrimage why they only used 2-channels to demo the Khorns. I'm glad to see he took my suggestion to heart and made it happen this year. Anyway I was immune to the disease while working 2 jobs and my kids were growing up. Now that the have left the nest, I got the disease back and it's all your fault Michael. I never would have thought of getting MWM's in my house if it weren't for all those pictures of you standing in front of them with a smug look on your face!!1 point
