  1. Hello gang, back from our show in the park..........dinner and now some wine to cap off the evening, almost 12 midnight here in the east, up at the usual 5:45 for work.......((((sigh))))...start it all over again..... Anyway, I could not resist adding to the Central AC freeze up! First off, we have a very quiet and smooth running YORK system in our home which was installed by our seller back in 1991.... We had a dinner party a few years ago in the house and there was eight of us. Between the bodies and the cooking etc, the AC was running during the evening hours to keep us at a comfy 73 degrees. I went down to the first floor and noted a strange 'thundering' sound coming from the utility room........ Ahh, it was being generated by the blower unit in the furnace... I ran up and checked the AC floor registers, and noted there was very little air movement! I thought, hmmm, THIS is a first! Well, as it turned out, the evap was pretty much totally frozen. I also noted that the outside temp was in the 50ies !!!! Shut it down to thaw for the night...... We had the HVAC guys come to check it all out the next day. Turns out the 'core' thermostat for the evaporator was around 32 degrees! He turned it up to 36 and said that should keep it from icing up. Also, he said running the AC with the OUTSIDE temps that cool will also cause this too happen, which was adding to the case that evening... So, ever since their adjustments, there has been no ice up, and I make sure the AC is OFF should the outside temp get down to those numbers and the house thermostat is calling for cooling. I open the sliders and let the cool night air in ... NOW, to continue with home owner challenges..................Chuck, it looks like the 'plumbing demon' has found my dishwasher! I went to run it last night, and noted that it did NOT call for water at the start of the cycle. Sure enough, the bottom was still filled with water and soap from the last rinse! Seems the pump got plugged up and could not exit the rinse water! I have had this happen before, and I will usually 'jog' the door handle while the pump is running to help 'clear' what may be blocking it which works. Well, it took a while, but I finally got it cleared and it emptied the washer. So, I ran a load last night figuring all was ok.... Tonight after the show, went to take the CLEAN load out, saw a big arse puddle of water sitting in the bottom AGAIN! Dishes and glasses had a film all over them! So, jogged the pump again and it was dumping just fine. I ran a couple of rinse cycles which also emptied, then put all the filmy dishes and such back in, running ANOTHER full cycle... I will see in the morning how that comes out. Otherwise, it may be time to replace a 10 year old dishwasher Ok, that is my LONG story of the evening.... Good night everyone.................zzzzzz ........more later on.... ...............Gary

  7. Thinking that is the case as have been checking other things like new filter, outside unit for air to breathe near plants. Thanks! Unfortunately we have an older Janitrol outside unit that I hear ac techs like for making some money. Usually a service call once a year around now is normal now. Out of that many trips, I should have asked them to check and top off. Living and still learning here.

  9. Yea...my home A/C unit was doing that for a few years. Had a leak in it. My shop land lord sold me a 30 lb container for $150... Every year I would put about 4 lbs of R-22 in it, did that for three years... then two years ago the compressor locked up...so I did get my moneys worth out of it...I went with some window units.. MKP :-)

  10. FYI: usually freeze up is caused by low refrigerant. Even 1/2 a lb low can cause this to happen.

  12. Well be safe, have fun and keep the wife happy and everything will be good. Were also leaving Wed sometime ? Going back to Hope to deliver some stuff to a really nice guy who hosted the klipsch get-together, also going to a birthday party, and I would think probably kill off some more of my liver as Carl would say.

  16. It is a non-interference so, may have broken timing belt, or it did a tooth jump or 2. 225,000 miles on car. Not after 400,000+ that some owners get out of the 5 cylinder. Nancy heard me saying Stupid twice while sleeping Friday night after the event with car. On the bright side, our inside home AC unit froze up less than a week ago. Thawed it and set thermostat on 70. Did it again last night. Thawed it and will try to leave it alone and leave on 70 until can clear my plate of the car. May not be cost effective to fix, or fix and sale, or to keep. Been a good car, and only put 100,000 on it since we got it. Have fixed several things myself during that time but, not enough tools, space to workon it and blah blah Nothing inexpensive about the car. Thinking about moving to the North Pole. Tummy and hair, with a red suit and I should pass. Do not complain much as a rule to other's but, hope your experiences with fixing is better than my current. Alright, finished my rant, maybe! Hoping you have a good rest of weekend.

  19. Hmm, I'm not sure what got your dander up in that year-old post, but Mr. Oldtimer posts with a lot of tongue-in-cheek, usually with more than a bit of hyperbole, but in a good way. His posts are slightly irreverent, sometimes off-beat, but always in an entertaining way, and without ill intent. I think if he said those things while sitting across from you at a table, a wink and a nod and a half-smile might explain things better than all the words I know how to write.

  20. WD, Seagate, Fujitsu, Toshiba, .... they all make top notch and cheapass HD's. Even the higher rated, Tom's HH approved durable favorites can go belly-up at any time. Best thing you can do is to be prepared for the worse, and have at least 1 portable HD for back ups. I learned on my first HD crash. And that happened on a high dollar Fujitsu SCSI back in the late-90's. Reportedly one of the most durable HD on the planet at the time, it lasted 4 yrs.. Told myself I'd never be unprepared again, and currently run a redundant array as an alternate (D: drive), that's used for back ups and storage purposes only. Even with the redundant array, I still back up to an external HD (WD workbook) once every week or two. Moral of the story, don't blame the manufacturer, it can happen with any make and model HD, be prepared so that the loss is maintained to a minimum.

  21. That's funny Billy Bob...do you moonlight palm reading? Great prediction! What do you predict will happen Monday night in Chicago. I believe I got that one right. Are you taking the Dodge dually on your road trip? 80 miles North of Chicago isn't too far North is it? On 2nd cup..Highlander Grogg again. Yes, the Dodge is our roadtrip standard. can haul/tow anything in that critter.

There is a small scratch on one side of the speakers, but will be non viewable when positioned. They are just TOO big for my set-up. I hope someone gets them though. Nice.

  26. Having moved K-horns 5 times in 50 years you have to be in the right frame of mind to move them. A dolly is a must with nice rugs to cover. When you get to moving things you get yourself all lathered up into a mesmionic frenzy of get-er done as in Laurel & Hardy. JJK

  28. I enjoyed 1 & 2 for what they were, but passed on T3 once Liam Neeson started barking about America with his anti-gun comments. He even blamed America for the Paris Terrorist attack. Plus,I heard the latest movie was by far the worst of the 3. Makes for an easy pass on my part. The first one was a pretty original idea, but more than that, it had some downright shocking extreme close quarters gunplay that is rarely seen in movies. That's what made it successful in my opinion.

  30. My 1972 Walnut Khorns are practically mint - no veneer issues at all - but a couple dents that do not look out of place. I paid $2500 for them and the guy threw in a RSW-15 and a Klipsch center that I forget the model # but is also very nice. I practically stole those speakers Id be in for 2500 on these after fuel I think

  32. Gary RC knows his history! I haven't heard GMENAC referred to in an eternity! It was before my time, but I had a role to play with the Council On Graduate Medical Education (COGME), which came to the same conclusions. And, like GaryRC says, they were "dead wrong." No methodology has been developed that can accurately predict demand for physicians and/or other health professionals. So, what happens is the interpolation of political and philosophical agendas, usually by the Chairman of the Council. These are not always what the establishment would prefer, either. For example, COGME was very oriented to promoting primary care, while medical education organizations were doubtful about that push. The test of time reigns, of course. No one now seriously believes that we have a "surplus" of physicians. On the other hand, the role and importance of more primary care physicians has gradually inserted itself into organized health system practice, and there seems to be far less resistance to training and utilizing primary care. Pay is still too low, however. Medical schools did not readily expand at the time of GMENAC and early COGME days, because starting and running a medical school is VERY expensive, in both money and medical leadership manpower! This has gradually changed since the GMENAC days in the 1970s, and the COGME days of the mid-1980s to late 1990s. Since, then, there has been a quantum expansion of medical school enrollment. Unfortunately, there is a 10- to 20-year lead time from deciding to increase med school enrollments to the actual entry into practice of well-trained, fully practicing physicians. That's been the real problem.

  33. Very nice! My last week was interesting. Put a charge of Freon to get ac right on level with gauge, some AC Pro from Advanced Auto. The compressor clutch was kicking out and still is. Went to very known repair shop for estimate and of course, they were swamped. Around 9:30 in morning and said would be back for the typical repair next week. Was trying to get ahead of traffic coming back home and had the 99Volvo wagon punched. Nancy said Billy, what is this coming from beneath the dash (about a cup of antifreeze) at my feet. Could not stop as was in motion. Motor started loosing power. Called ac repair shop for a wrecker. Brought it back and mechanic was looking at serpentine and alternator, all was good. Did a chemical test for blown head gasket. No blown gasket, at least according to test. Started coming to conclusion may have jumped time. Maybe we will hear the good news Monday what they actually find. Kicking myself in the *** . Will take my mind off of it by working my job today...weeeee

  36. Thanks everyone. I just can't believe this little amp drives these so well, I know I read that they are really efficient speakers, but man this is insane. One thing I do remember about my L220s is they needed masive amounts of power, and I mean mortgage your house power. I had the biggest Adcom amp they made back then and remembered needing another one. I've been listening to headphones for the last year with my Fiio, but after listening to these I don't want to put my phones back on. I played a few of the reference cds I have managed to get back, like Flim & the bbs Tricycle, the salesman played this cd when I bought my very first system so it's just always been my go to try out. I have listened to every type of music so far over a 10 hour listening marathon yesterday, and the rf3s pasted the test for me. I grew up with Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and all the classic rock, then in my 20s I abandoned rock for a 20 year ride with jazz (turned on by an old school mate) and now falling in love with my classic rock again, and building up my cd collection. Jazz is still my fav though.

  39. Almost always it's the skill of the rider not the displacement of the bike. I've seen many a boy racer on 1000cc repli-racers humbled by skilled old men on Goldwings. I'd venture to say less than 5?% of sport bike riders get anywhere near the bikes capabilities. Almost always it's the skill of the rider not the displacement of the bike. I've seen many a boy racer on 1000cc repli-racers humbled by skilled old men on Goldwings. I'd venture to say less than 5?% of sport bike riders get anywhere near the bikes capabilities. I would guess it's probably less than 5%, very few people can take a modern bike to it's limits….I know I can't Speaking of Duc eaters, this is what was left of my Duc after I ate it. Good reminder of my skillz to look at this from time to time. The TT would eat me up - I doubt that many mortals could recover from those "little wobbles" at those speeds with feet off the pegs. HOLY HECK!!! I hope you were okay. That's a lot of damage. Did you get rid of the bike, or salvage any of it? "One Liter Duc Eater" was a term used to describe Honda's Early 2000s World Superbike. They got tired of losing championships with their V45 (750cc V4) against the Ducati 1000cc V twins, so Honda made a 1000cc V twin of their own, called an RC51. It won 2 WSBK and 1 AMA SBK titles. They are becoming rare, pretty unique bike.

  43. I have run 3.1 with great success although my preference is the 5.1. I have heard quite a few 5.1's with the surrounds set up as a secondary thought trying to hide the speakers, etc. and they have been more of a distraction than it is worth. If it is a compromise on installation I would say stick with the best 3.1 and be happy. Enjoy!

  45. How about this. Keep a 3.1 system up and running for TV watching and drag a pair of surrounds on telescopic stands out of the closet for action movie watching. Just pull the preconnected rolled up speaker wires out from your TV stand or audio rack and connect to your surrounds. Only a temporary "eyesore" to contend with. My bedroom 3.1 rig becomes a 5.1 rig for movies by pulling the RSX-4's out from under my bed and placing them on each of the night stands that flank my bed. Voila! Bill
