  1. To all you retired guys, good morning (once you get up and around to reading this). All you worker bees, get busy. I need to make sure there's plenty of money in social security when I jump off the treadmill.

  2. Genie, jlg, cat, Deere, Kubota, Cummins, Ford, Chevy, Polaris, Duetz. It's all the same to me. I just didn't like working on customer's cars, in a professional shop for that matter.

  3. Well we decided. Shop is replacing the blown(?) Volvo 225k engine with a 113k one. I made them aware to check if timing belt has or have been changed during previous ownership of engine. It sure has been fun experience waiting on them to give us a ballpark price on engine replacement, fixing the original ac clutch compressor problem which led us there in the first place, and a price on heater core replacement, instead of bypassing it. Will call them back next Tuesday to find out where we are in the process. Nancy sure likes her Volvo, and it has been a real blast doing what I can to keep it going. Do not go on luck but, sometimes have to cause, no guarantees with older cars like a 99. Decided to drop the issue about the non-interference after they said it would have caused head damage. A pro link I found the 99 did not have interference problems. But for a newer motor then, and not having to continue shopping for another acceptable car for Nancy, we will drive it and then decide about looking at another Honda. At least, we may have a trade in after it is fixed,lol...Thanks again MKP.

  5. From a philosophical point of view, I wonder why we label a Klipsch product as being too expensive? I would think, assuming many of us are already equipped with the speakers we are comfortable with, that an increase in the used value of a set of pristine Klipschorns would be pleasing to us all. Not a point of contention. A rising tide lifts all boats (or the value of all Klipschorns, in this case).

  6. Well billybob here is my 2 cents......VW's can't come in my shop and to go one step more if it's made in Europe it doesn't come in the shop... :-( sorry but I do not like the engineering of those vehicles....I have worked on Jap cars so long it's hard to get my brain into such a different design. Also the electronics are so different to all the Jap and domestic cars...Now I will work on Fords and GM's.. Now should you not buy the car cuz I don't like em????? ahhhhhh....no......this might be the best car you ever owned, I know you had some good luck with the Volvo (if I had to pick a European car to work on it would be Volvo) So I will tell you what I tell all my customers when they are looking at a new/used car.....google the year, make, model....if there's big problems with it....it'll be on the net... For example....google "oil consumption problems in Honda's" look at all the issue's with those VCM engines.....my god there are countless complaints....even a class action law suit......Dude I own a Honda shop and I wouldn't own one of those turds....There's good and bad in all makes and model's .... Good luck my man... MKP :-)

Here was my 'office' from yesterday... Each one of these is a self contained 'speaker and amplifier' in one.. This little organ has nearly 3000 of them !!! .....and they are ALL hand made !......Here is the console that controls it all. This one was built in 1962 by Austin Organs of Hartford Ct. 13. I will forever remember him in The Vengeance of Fu Manchu. Forever, not like just 5 weeks from now. Seriously, he will be forever known as Dr. Fu Manchu for like at least another 18 months. I mean like wow. I can tell from watching that film he was a good dude.

  14. I find the higher power amp you use with any speaker the better it sounds. The extra gain and headroom gives it that extra oomph when it needs it.

  16. Followup.................... I did order the HiFi Berry DAC and it arrived a few days ago. Since I had the Model B I had to do a bit of soldering to put in the audio outputs to the board. My plan was to use it in the music room instead of using a laptop headphones out to deliver music. The next task was getting the SD card imaged with the desired OS. I decided to use Volumio (https://volumio.org). Very pleased with the interface. I mapped to my music network share. Took about 10 minutes to load all the music into Volumio. Configured for the exact HiFi Berry board and bobs your uncle. Worked like a charm. This is my first DAC and know I know why many of you use them. Pretty sure this solution would not compete with many of the upper end DACs but I am very pleased with the sound. A/B Comparing the HIFI Berry DAC to the laptop output. It was so obvious! The sound quality was much better. Invited my son over and did some A/B with him and he was quite surprised as well. So, I would recommend the HiFi Berry for a low budget DAC for sure.

  20. Het billybob.....the VCM engines came out around 2010 or so. They are V-6's used in Honda's suv's and vans. VCM stands for Variable Cylinder Management. The engine goes from a 6 cylinder to a 3 cylinder. Really cool desing cuz driving down the road you can't tell when it drops 3 of the cylinders. Honda says they have a "fix" for it......but it won't work. The Accord Wagons.......man I love those old cars. I had one for years, drove it to about 300K.....then sold it. I loved my wagon, the only reason I sold it was, I latched on to a little CRV.... Those 4 cylindres 94-97 are great engines. My daughters 94 Accord has over 400k on it.....original engine, but I replaced the tranny a few years back..... Keep looking do you home work..... MKP :-)

  21. The K703 Tractrix horn may be crossed at 700hz. It was used in the KLF20/30 with a phenolic midrange driver and a tweeter. It was also used with a 2" VC wide range aluminum diaphragm compression driver, without a tweeter, in the now defunct Epic series. Ordered as a repair part from the service department for "your freight damaged KLF20/30," the Klipsch part number is 130024 and the MSRP is $30. If a bunch of you try this, get your sh*t together first. Don't all order the same thing on the same day. And don't all ask for a 130024. Remember that this horn was used in the KLF20, KLF30, and Epic CF2.

  30. Although at this point cosmetic damage only, it appears some fairly serious dings, scratches. A speaker of such high pedigree and superior finish deserves better than that. I couldn't look at them each day I listen; I would focus more on the damage than the experience. But admittitly I am anal as hell. I would send them back. The next buyer will want you to give them away. i would imagine Harbeth buyers to be a particular bunch. Although you did get a great deal it boils down - what can you live with? So sorry, what a shame.

  36. Does your email provider support IMAP? If so migrate your POP account to an IMAP account. Doing so means ALL of your email is stored on their servers and can be accessed by any authorized user from any PC. No "Exchange Server" required. This kind of stuff is what I do for a living. If you need more info feel free to PM me to hook up by phone.

  37. Exactly my experience since the first time I listened to a pair. The room was nothing special, not treated in any way. The sound was amazing IMHO. I chased that sound for years with every single Heritage speaker in the line up. I then started modifying Khorns and eventually trying my own builds of all sorts of things. Finally bit the bullet and ordered a set. Even with modest drivers, like the Tang Bands I still use, they are amazing to MY ears. I have since stopped upgrading, modifying and looking for other speakers. I am very happy with the Oris and the Tang Band drivers. I did focus on fine tuning the acoustics in my room with absorbers and diffusers that have made my HT a fun place to listen to 7.1 and 2.1 music, movies etc. Interestingly, I ended up with Open Baffle DIY speakers which also sound very good in combination with the Oris. Besides the above mentioned pricing for the horns, the drivers, shipping, VAT and import taxes, you need to add professional painting if you want them to look nice plus some sort of stand for the horns.

  38. I think it just lets people know about how much they would be spending if going this route. All in all the prices don't seem that bad. Thanks for taking the time to chime in.

  39. I'm overseas right now, so am not sure what all the excitement is about. The horns shipped in one large box. At the time prices quoted were correct and exchange rate was different than it is today. The $2000 discussion was relative to the cost of new AER or Lowther drivers. I'm going off the top of my head right now, but the horns were roughly $1200, plus the import taxes plus the shipping. Not really sure why this matters.

  41. disrespectful in my opinion. when he responds back and says they are sold tell him you had cash and would have payed double what he was asking had he called you back cause you wanted them so bad. and then when he freaks out and cancels with the other guy you can tell him you dont buy speakers from people like him.

  42. Good riddance to hdmi! It's also proprietary, whereas DP and usb-c are not...

  43. HDMI will die as USB-C takes over....with 100W power over the bus, even a decent laptop could run off it, and it supports way higher data rates. There aren't many parts on that DAC...is the output even low passed and buffered?

  46. I like the flow of this thread, hearing is the most important factor. The preamp has a major impact on the what you hear at the end of the audio chain. I use an Acurus with my avr and prefer it to separates. The avr /amp combo is a good option. Flagship avr's have an economy of scale advantage over smaller companies making separate preamp. A good preamp can cost a few bucks. Also, Flagship avrs may offer many features not available on a lot of preamp. I use my system mostly for music.

  47. And B Stock from the Hope factory is sometimes very subtle. The veneer is not quite perfectly matched but one has to look for it to see it for example. Bubbled vinyl (only wood veneer from Hope) would definitely not pass Hope QC. Of course we're talking the more expen$ive speakers being produced in Hope but I would expect the same quality control standards to be applied. [H] Go back to Trey's comment that the Hope cabinet builders figured out a better way to build a cabinet in 4 hours. The Klipsch Hope workforce is second to none. And the exploding Asian market demands made in the USA. Better quality for all of us. I have no idea if still included but I'd like to see the signed iand nspected by tags on all products made in Hope. If nothing else you may be able to meet the person or people who worked on your speakers at a future Pilgrimage but workers signing their product are also going to take more pride in their work. And the Klipsch Hope workforce does take pride in their work and it shows.
