  1. Day 1. Hooked up water for upstairs. Created indoor waterfall. Water poured through seams in sheetrock. Turned water off, cut hole in upstairs floor. fixed broken pipe, turned water on, created secondary waterfall. Cut hole in sheetrock, found secondary leak. Copper pipes! Did I say dtel hates plumbing. Partied with regulars last night to celebrate creating waterfalls. As always, dinner was excellent. Rodney cooked center cut smoked porked chops, smothered potatoes, fresh crowder peas from the garden, fried green tomatoes and fried eggplant. Fresh from the garden tomato salad and hot water cornbread.

  3. I was listening to the K-horns last night and have decided to pull them off the market. I must of had a case of temporary insanity. After we sell the Michigan house, we will be looking for a house in Florida big enough to accommodate them.

  4. I’m brand new to this forum but I’ve been a follower for some time and I’m trying to understand how should I make a major purchase of speakers, I’ve only heard the Khorns and I would like to get some serious comments and feedback about the idea of using Cornwall’s for mains and a La Scala for a center channel. I don’t know what to expect and I don’t know anyone that has tried this combination out. I have nowhere in Cleveland to check out these speakers, I just fell in love with the Khorns and the Klipsch sound; and I’m flying blind and taking a leap of faith.

  10. Time for these Bad Boys to find a new home, complete refurb (Tested to spec and rewired, then painted) after purchase just a year ago. They have done their job well, easily pizz off a neighbor. The ONLY reason for selling is i have TWO pair of MCMs for my retirement at our soon to be new ranch. I simply do not need them. aprox age is 1989/93 Currently running them Bi-Ampped 250 Bass, 100 LF/Horn per stack. through Carvin electronic crossover. MC4973X is the top section including the large 2" Horn, has built in Two Way factory crossover (for top Horn) MC4973LF is the lower 15" X 4 Push Pull Bass Bin. Fresh coat of Dead Black paint as when new. Added 800Lb casters (nonlocking)on both Bass cabs (a kid could push these) These weigh in at 500Lb per stack, they split in two, (One on top of the Other) handling with two or more people. These will fit stacked in a standard P/U w/8' Bed. These are factory made without grills, no need because who see's them behind the screen? I paid well over $2K and went to LA to fetch them, $2K OBO. These will remain hooked up and ready to Demo untill sold. These will be listed elsewhere, sale could be pulled at ANY time. Had factory support on every call/email i made to EAW, pretty nice guys to deal with tech support. I could assist w/load/move, just as long as you have bodies on the other end at home. Have truck, PM w/ideas.

  26. hey everyone... Keeping in shape Chuck--well done. Ride safely though. Rock on Gary-wish i was there. Glad to hear that the intro to Fat Bottom Girls is part of the set. Battling a hefty infection in a tooth that previously had a root canal. i hate going to the dentist. Was talking to a friend that was the Pastor of a church i attended in Michigan--he made a comment (talking about surgery in general) that sometimes the pain gets so bad we toss our fears aside and tell the doc to do whatever it takes…i got to that point yesterday, only the dentist said i need to see a specialist to have this fixed. he did give me antibiotics to start fighting the infection, so hopefully as that begins to clear, the pain will reduce as well. I’ll be taking it easy again today--probably stare at the idiot box and try to keep my mind off the pain. Have an enjoyable day folks.

  32. It didn't take me long after buying a pair of LaScalas to sell my RF-83 / RC-64 and purchase a third LaScala. You are correct, they do not have the slam like my RF-83's do but the bass they do produce is smooth and as Scrappy says, no matter what speakers you have (even Khorns), you are going to want a quality sub (or multiple subs). There is no lacking of bass from the Dual RSW-15's.

  33. Three of the same no matter what! I'd personally go with three la scalas if you can afford. Your gonna want a sub either way for theater. So it will make up for the lack of bass the la scalas suffer from. But three Cornwalls will be sweet also. Just gonna get more Midrange from the larger horn on the scalas

  34. I have tree Cornwall's up front myself (I need to take a new picture and change my avatar). I have ALK model Bv.2 crossovers in them. My main music is jazz and gospel and I love using three Cornwall's !!!!!!

  35. What is your music preference, movies or music? Will you set up a 2.0 or 2.1 for music, then have 5.1 for movies? What is your speaker environment (dedicated home theater or living room) and what is your budget for all speakers? How many subs? In general, I would go for La Scala L/R. For a center I would try to find a single LS, the CW would be my second choice for a center. I think the Klipsch Belle is also a good choice for center, but they are harder to find than your other choices. Oh yeah, welcome to the forum.

  42. Mweiner / Full Range - Thanks so much for the detailed information! I really appreciate the what you have each provided here. I am very interested in building a set of these, and what you have written is very helpful. If I have it right, with the bass boxes, the speaker assembly should be about 50" tall, correct? Of course, that would not include any spikes, etc., to support the assembly. I understand that you each have the LS sitting directly on top of the bass box; besides gravity, have you done anything to firmly affix the LS to the bass box? Full Range - did you do anything like Mweiner to provide additional support inside the bass box? Thanks again for your posts!

  43. Isn't the k400 the horn in the La Scala? The point here would be to upgrade to something more like a 510. Wouldn't this basically be a Jub Scala? Since these are only the base bins you could build a top to house the 510. The K402 would be too big for my room. Of course I really don't know what I'm talking about. I have limited space and have dreamed of building a fully horn loaded system. Probably a horn sub in the future if I went this route. From what I've read here, the 510 and 402 are better than the old 400.

  44. Joesportster, Aw man. *throws down my earbuds in frustration* Honestly, I have nothing against head-Fi. It's become a HUGE market, and I fully understand why so many people are into it. But.... I dunno man. I admit that there are plenty of cans, headphone amps, and combos that I haven't heard.... so I'm not going to close the book on that segment of Hi-Fi. Just the same, I've yet to hear a setup that's been able to strike an emotional chord. Whether it's listening to Senns best headphones on an expensive Woo Audio system or experiencing a humble Grado / iFi combo - I always leave the experience feeling cold. I suppose that's because to me, the musical experience isn't just limited to our ears. It's a visceral experience as well. Music interacts with everything around you. And with headphones, I just feel like I'm listening to a pair of transducers that are only a couple mm's from my ear. The illusion, and more importantly, the emotion of a musical event just isn't there for me. Who knows, maybe one day I'll find my head-fi huckleberry. Until then, I'm gunna continue enjoying my big, bulky loudspeakers.
