  1. Morning all! Or happy lunch hour on the east coast - low 20's here this morning, still no snow. Tar Heel you're on page 616 and well on the way to 15k posts! I raise my coffee mug to you for a well thought out thread that has found longevity and brought a smile to many of us for a good while now! Cheers!

  2. Did the same thing last year but in Aug,(not as colorful) try to go check out the waterfall close to the end of the Skyway it's easy to get to and pretty big. I can't remember the name but there is a sign it's on the Tellico side of the parkway. We spent one Saturday just parked on the Dragon watching cars and bikes pass buy, our daughter and husband rode there bikes a few times on the tail. I've ridden that area quite a bit, but I haven't scratched the surface of all the great scenery. I'm thinking about retiring around there. I wouldn't blame you at all, it's a great looking area. We have been there a lot but like you there is much more we haven't seen, my favorite time of the year is fall with the colors. Since you will be in the area Fontana dam is nice and a very curvy road to get there. https://www.tva.gov/Energy/Our-Power-System/Hydroelectric/Fontana-Reservoir

  4. Another perfect day here today, currently 62, with a high of 80! I will run an errand this morning, then get away from work for a "spirited" motorcycle ride to the southeast part of the state. Don't tell my boss Every year around this time I try to get away for a few days and go down to the Knoxville Tn area to ride their spectacular roads. Hwy 129 (Deals Gap, Tail of the Dragon) is on the list. In a 11 mile stretch of that road, there are 317 turns! Pretty darn amazing on a bike. Cherokee National Forest, the Skyway are also great areas around Knoxville and northwest NC. Have fun today….

  6. Well we are finally getting some rain. My house needs it. The ground is so dry, it has shifted my house foundation causing cracks in the walls, around door frames and cracked a large picture window. Ya'll have a great day.

  10. have fun and be careful Ceptorman..... Bad news on the foundation problems Luther. Some companies around this area specialize in repairing those kind of problems. I've watched them work before. Difficult getting things just right though.

  12. mornin' guys ...just checking in. More rain today but that's okay. We go through long dry spells and need to build up the reservoirs. Luther ... have you looked into homeowners insurance as a possible resource for the foundation issues? Ceptorman ... you have a perfect plan for spending your Thursday. Enjoy.

  13. Its even more ironic than that. Basically its just a Chevy... hiding underneath the high priced Denali trim package. The big wheel spins, hair thins crowd the Denali is marketed too... forgets they're hiding (a Chevy), it's a put on.

  14. That one is funny. The commercial is about buying expensive items (including their truck) to show off and be a "well put together man" and they are playing Eminence Front in the background, a song about how showing off expensive items is hiding behind an eminence front. Do you think this was intentional by someone?

  15. I get sick of the aspca telling me there is no way we can really know how an animal feels, then they proceed to tell me how an animal feels and that I should donate 19.00+ a month because no animal deserves to suffer.........................I use to like some of Sarah McLachlan's music I am all for ethical treatment of animals but I can think of several places 19.00 would be better spent..............And I dont want your damn T-Shirt Heres an interesting read http://www.examiner.com/article/merry-grinch-mas-the-truth-about-aspca-and-hsus-spending

  16. After owning various Class A SS amps I've wanted to head back that direction to couple with the KHorns. Well I found a mint (llooks like they were just pulled off the build line) pair of Forte/Threshold Model 7 pure Class A monoblocks, 75 watts/side, a Nelson Pass product design when he was associated with Threshold. All paper work, boxes, sales brochures, got it all. Have about three CD's through them and my gosh do they sound good?! Why yes, yes they do. They do the Class A/monoblock sound in spades.

  18. I don't have kids. I've often wondered what parents of kids do during all these viagra ads? They seem to be on all the time, anytime. The commercials are becoming more popular. I guess they found their target audience (not me…haha) during the day. I always grab the remote and quickly change the channel. I hope when my 14 year old daughter has a question about those commercials, she asks her Mom

  20. Morning Gang 80+ yet again. Farm work yesterday, so today is a day off. Mailbox Alarm electronics, last piece i was waiting for came in yesterday, so i dove in. The indoor Alarm device is now complete, waiting on LED/Photocell for mailbox portion. I suppose i should make a video, there is just no way i can explain i was gutting a Gopher at midnight, (not a real Gopher). I'll make a video after a Nap, three cups and not even fazed.

  21. Homeowners insurance won't touch foundations with a ten foot pole. I think everyone in Texas runs into this problem eventually. I'm not sure if the newer post tension slabs make a difference or not.

  23. Thanks for posting that Steve, I hadn't seen that previously. We had the same issue at our house Luther. The oak trees in the front yard suck up all the water out of the ground which shrinks the soil and allows the foundation to settle. I ended up having the foundation fixed and cutting down the trees.

  26. Big Stew man is right to bring this up. GeekySteve is a lost soul. The title is intriguing Geeky is correct that there is repetition on questions. This might arise because the powers that be set up the subjects long ago and they could use revision. Thank goodness for the pin of crossovers. Still it might work better if there were a K-Horn section, a Belle section, an LS section, and so forth. The tube and s.s. sections are a good move. GeekySteve would have liked it, or it would address his frustration. But let me point out what is good here. There IS a whole lot of love. (Blush) It goes on in the diverse posts. We don't have a section for prayers for our friends, we don't have a section for descriptions of family health problems, or jobs, or the loss of pets, or I had a bad day. Rather, these subjects are woven into diverse posts sharing with forum friends over years and decades. GeekySteve never realized the community here. I suppose he wanted newbies to research technical issues. But Big Stew's heading got it right. WMcD

  27. You do mean 101, correct? Are you a golfer? Bandon, Oregon has 3 of the top 20 golf courses ON THE PLANET. The Redwoods around Eureka, CA are better than you can imagine. The Tillamook area of Oregon is beautiful, and the cheese factory there is worth visiting..... Ask away, been there many times up and down the coast, lived in the Seattle area, and have family in Portland.

  30. Some people are convinced you can't get quality if you're not spending a lot of money. In certain market segments, the Klipschorn was seen as a cheap speaker, no matter how good it sounded. Those wealthy buyers would not want to admit to spending so little on their speakers. Klipsch realized this and introduced the Palladium series, great-sounding and great-looking speakers with price tags that status-obsessed types could brag about. The higher price became a selling point. I don't think any of the forum members who own Palladiums fall into that group, they just really like the sound and look of them and are willing to pay the price. A sort of similar thing happened with BMW about thirty years ago. Due to currency fluctuations, they would have to raise the prices of their cars and motorcycles about twenty percent (these figures are approximate, since it was a long time ago), which would hurt sales. One of the executives said, "Instead, let's raise the prices 40% and go after a different market segment." It worked. BMW went from being seen as a slightly premium brand to being a luxury brand, and their sales increased, in spite of the price increase. These types of products can be seen as Veblen goods: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veblen_good

  31. One of mine is the Interactive Brokers ad with two gents fly fishing....one giggling about the "fan-tas-tic" week he had trading. I think of fly fishing as a chance to get away from it all. I also don't want to be fishing 40 feet from another guy talking about hedge funds. Next would be the Invesco ad where 4 people follow you around all day all talking at the same time. I always mute that one. Hate it so bad I tried to write Invesco to tell them how bad it is

  36. Being an auto mechanic in UK provides Edd China lots of opportunities for practice. The only thing that kept the UK from getting big in computers, is the fact they couldn't figure out a way to make them leak fluids. It's said, the British drink warm beer because they have Lucas refrigerators.

  37. In California, Highway 1 is a superior experience to Highway 101. You can switch from 101 to 1 in Legget, CA. right after you exit the Avenue of the Giants, which no one should miss. It's a short 101 detour. From Legget, you can stay on 1 all the way through SF, Santa Cruz, Monterey and down to Pismo Beach. There are countless interesting stops on 1. Mendocino, Jenner, Tomales Bay, Point Reyes, Bolinas, Stinson Beach, Half Moon Bay, Pescadero, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel, Big Sur, San Simeon, Cambria, and into Pismo. It's a challenging drive, and it is slow going, but I can't think of anywhere in the world with an ocean stretch to match it. I refer to it as "Pacific California". Most of it is rugged, rural, and gorgeous. Always cool, be sure to have a jacket.

  38. I love Jeopardy, and I thought I was the only person watching Wheeler Dealers, Ed can fix ANYTHING! Here's to "The Tall Man." I watch WD while I workout. The buyers get well sorted cars for a bargain, as WD never includes the value Edd's time in their bases.
